Ram them until they give up!

Post by Renewed_Valour1 »

The list of ships below has been deposited in our solar system to face off. All the ships have had their weapons, FTL drive, and shields disabled. However other systems like "towing gear", AG fields, and other similar systems that are considered nonweapons are operational. The ships have to still destroy each other through any other means they can come up with and the last one still standing wins.

Ships:
Victory Destroyer (B5)
Sovereign (ST)
ISD
Glorious Heritage Cruiser
Battlestar

Scenario 1: They have no support craft
Scenario 2: All the support craft are fully operational.

I think this ends up as MAD a damanged Victory ramning the ISD and both going up.

Be interesting to see the XMC play knife missile with it's buckycables.

Are you assuming with or without support craft? And assuming ramming as the only tactic? Other tactics than just ramming is allowed.

The Victory never had shields anyways. ;)

I suppose it could use its tractor beams to try to hurl rocks at the others.

Are the support craft unweaponed/un-FTL'ed/unshielded as well?

The Sovereign can beam its antimatter fuel onto the other ships. That could do some damage if they do it right.

No FTL but have shields and weapons.

Uh.... well I don't know who'd win then but the Victory sure as hell ain't gonna be the winner. You realize a single anti-fighter missile in the SW universe would be the equivalent of an energy mine in the B5-verse (except a bit more powerful)?

I was expect everyone would ignore the Victory until only it and one other ship remained. The most likely canidate would be the ISD.

The TIEs of the Star Destroyer duke it out on mostly equal terms with the Colonia Vipers from the Battlestar. Now, when it comes to ramming, the Battlestar is longer than the Star Destroyer and perhaps a bit more massive; I'd say that in a ramming attack both would be destroyed.

Neither the B5 Victory nor the ST Sovereign can do much to harm the "big boys." If the Sovvie had weapons, it could take out the B5 Victory, but in a ramming attack it's also MAD.

Which leaves the Glorious Heritage Cruiser without any opponent, hence making it the winner :P

What about engine exhaust? Ion engines produce a lot of radiation. That could cause problems against unshielded opponents. Of course, that would require some amazing maneuvers on the part of the attacker to make it work.

The only two ships that could pull that off are the Battlestar and the Star Destroyer...

The GHC and the Sovereign can dodge that type of attack from either ship all day long.

Tractors beams might be effective for positioning the Sovereign.

Tractor beams might also be useful for ripping apart a unshielded sovereign.

Tractor beams would also be useful for grabbing stuff (asteroids for example) and throwing it at the enemy.

A pair of Trators can grap a SW Frigit and hold it and the ISD can focus up to 6 at any one time if they have the enemy in front of them.... but they are terribly slow tracking however...

That's okay, the Sovereign and the Victory are terribly slow at manuevring, so it all evens out.

Too bad you can't do microjumps, SD comes out of hyperspace and crashes into Sovereign and obliterates it from the universe as though it wasn't there.

The combination of kinetic enrgy and the Sovereign's warp core exploding might actually do bad things to an ISD though.

Well, the ISD isn't all that nimble, too.
