The is no canon VSD.
You seem to misunderstand the concept.
There is no VSD in the movies or novelizations, but there are in the novels, games etc. as well as mention in the OT:ICS, all of which is canon. Although I have to give you points for spelling it right.

Nitpick, but there are VSDs in the novelizations. The RotS novelization, IIRC, mentions Victorys, Dreadnaughts, and Carracks.

How much does the economic changes between the Empire and the Republic affect their choices? Or does it have more to do with the political differences for the various decisions? I've wondered this alot as I followed the thread.

So because of one problem your throwing out the entire book? Aslong as its not contradicted elsewhere, its cannon.
And Canon says ISD's = slower then VSD's.[/quote]

but why would a ISD be slower than the ship that it replaced, when it is a rapid responder?

I'm pretty sure an Imperator has a type 1 and the Victory a type 2, not the other way around.

I'd agree here. I know games are pretty low on the scale of canon, but Tie Fighter mentions that VSDs are signifigantly slower than ISDs in both sublight and IIRC hyperdrive speeds.

Dark Forces Rising I think says that the Victory has a faster hyperdrive than an Imperator.

Mara Jade was captured and she was thinking to herself about how fast the Vic was and how soon she was going to arrive to her final destination.

IIRC, it doesn't. All it does is say that the VSD's normal flank speed is Point Four Five, and they are overloading the drive to (she thinks) Point Five.
