First contact assimultion
OK in First Contact the borg start going around the ship assimulating it.Has anybody thought WHY they would do so? Me personally I think its because it was the closest .most easily available resource for the borg to use .Any comments?

The Queen wanted Data. That, and maybe the E-E's transporters didn't work.consequences wrote:Because the Borg are morons, they could have beamed most of their strength down to the planet, and sent half a dozen drones over to the Enterprise to cause a warp core breach.

Why wouldn't the transporters work? The ship wasn't badly damaged, it had lots of transporters, and the Borg controlled Engineering.pecker wrote:The Queen wanted Data. The transporter wasn't damaged.
The borg wanted the deflector dish to contact the Borg that is still in the delta quadrant. That's the main reason i think the borg wanted the ship.
I would agree that the borg should've went down to the surface....but with ppl carrying guns and all.......
Cyaround,
Jason

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

The writers are total idiots, and the plot doesn't even work.Typhonis 1 wrote:OK in First Contact the borg start going around the ship assimulating it.Has anybody thought WHY they would do so? Why did the Borg Queen want Data again? Didn't they describe him as a primitive attempt at AI or something like that when they first scanned him on the show?pecker wrote:

Needed him to break the encryption on the main computer- probably to continue their bombardment (if you can call frag grenade level explosives 'bombardment') of EarthMark S wrote: Why did the Borg Queen want Data again? The best part of the train wreck that is the First Contact plot is that they went back in time, thus eliminating the technology they're interested in in the first place.

I don't think the Borg queen was really interested in Fed technology any more by this point. I think she decided she had a personel vendetta against Earth because of how Locutus was taken from her.Vympel wrote:Needed him to break the encryption on the main computer- probably to continue their bombardment (if you can call frag grenade level explosives 'bombardment') of EarthMark S wrote: Why did the Borg Queen want Data again? While I won't rule out a personal vendetta, I always thought it was just a case of deciding that these humans could be really dangerous if we give them time. Which she proceeded to do of course.Alyeska wrote:I don't think the Borg queen was really interested in Fed technology any more by this point. Circular reasoning.Needed him to break the encryption on the main computer
Q: Why did the Borg want the E-E? A: The Queen wanted Data.
Q: Why did the Queen want Data? A: To get the E-E's encryption codes.
Q: Why did they want the encryption codes? A: To get control of the E-E.
Q: Why did the Borg want the E-E? Etc. etc. etc.
I think the underlying question is "Why didn't the Borg send a message to the collective the instant they arrived back in time?" Of course, this is immediately followed up by the ever-popular "Why didn't they travel back in time ten light years from Earth and then travel to the Sol system?"

Heh, I wish the Borg HAD sent most of their strength down to the surface. Weren't the people down there armed with Uzis and whatnot?

Sufficiently pointy sticks and rocks would be enough. But there was at least one rifle.GrandAdmiralPrawn wrote:Heh, I wish the Borg HAD sent most of their strength down to the surface. Weren't the people down there armed with Uzis and whatnot?

Which would be more than enough for all of them to get killed. So maybe they weren't so dumb to invade the Ent-E.Sea Skimmer wrote:Sufficiently pointy sticks and rocks would be enough.
