Rand Al'Thor vs. Eldrad Uthran

Rand Al'Thor: Channeler of prodigious might, armed with Callandor. Capable of making mountains out of molehills and reducing the former to the latter via huge quantities of flame and death.

Eldrad Uthran: Awesomely powerful psyker whose prescience extends thousands of years into the future. Equipped with his standard wargear, the Staff of Ultramar.

Both are on a desolate world which has been exterminatused. Orbital support is being obliterated by the Death Star. Rand has been told that Eldrad is a Darkfriend and Eldrad has been told that Rand is a Chaos worshipper.

FIGHT!!!!!!!

Eldrad should be able to see through that with his psychic power and ability to read the future. It would work slightly better if some omnipotent entity had rigged events so that Rand would cause devastation to the Eldar if not killed in this fight. As far as the fight itself goes, no idea, but I'm leaning towards Rand Al'Thor, because he has a series of books, and thus very powerful character shielding.

Mind War is a brute force psychic attack. Effectively smashing the weight of your consciousness into the other guy. IMO Rand would lose because his mind is weakened by the taint, and because Eldrad is so much more powerful in the psychic field. Strength in the Power wouldn't count here because it isn't the Power per se. Perthaps Rand's mental discipline could help him hold out for a while, but eventually he would be overwhelmed.

Wanted to see what kind of reasons people would give for Al'Thor or Eldrad to win. Also because an idiot friend of mine hijacked my comp to start the thread and I was thinking " let's see how it goes".

Al'Thor however would be a very nasty oppent to tackle because of the problems of Channeling and the Taint

IE if you poke him hard he exploses, Every time his mind is attacked normaly he goes for lack of a better phrase "ape shit" over his attacker,

So basicly its like trying to fight a cloud of methan with a match, you can kill it, but it will burn you too

Al'Thor is not that stable to begin with and if he's push over the edge as any sort of Physic tampering would do, things would not be pretty....

His predcessor was hit with a mind attack which pushed him over the edge and he killed roughly everything within a few miles and cause basicly a 8.5 Earthquake on top of that

Fight Al'Thor with mental powers is a very iffy thing, Either its a quick painless victory or Al'Thor Looses it and Nukes everything

Rabbit I think you misunderstand how close to completly fucking looney Al'Thor is

IE typical battle with Al'Thor with him fighting Trollocs

Not true. The Taint seeps in with each use of saidin, but he's not completely crazy until he's overcome by the Taint. It's saidin that's tainted, not Rand himself.

I remeber during Book 2-3 all it took is somone jumping out and saying BOO and he would nuke a city sized area

All channelers do, not just Rand. It's not the Taint. Egwene, ca EotW, when she was learning form Moiraine, wanted to use saidar (female half of the Source) all the time, but she couldn't otherwiseshed burn herself out. Even those stilled/gentled still wanted to touch the Source, and most withered away to nothingness because they couldn't.

He used it as a self-defense mechanism.

Well thats why Robert Jordan never inculding Mat jumping out and yelling Boo as it would have been pretty hard to write the rest of the series after

And Rand went nuts and killed everyone in a 25 Kilometer area....

Ummm and then he was realy realy sorry but fuck I think I just killed off nearly every one of my major charaters... Ummm uumm.. And then uum Rand went to Tar Valon and ummm.... blew that up tooo....

I'm going to give it to Eldred, It'll be hard, Rand is powerful, but it's raw power often. Eldred is m,ore, Eldred is powerful in raw talent mixed with Training a double wide Butt Load of it in fact. added to the fact that Eldred is rational and in complete control of his mind, and yet would go furthur than Rand's insanity pushes him, if he needed too. arrange the deaths of Millions of Humans to save thousands of Eldar. it tells you of the man he is willing to be, power wise, a Human Inquistor whos powers backfired on him exploded and took out a vechicle used as a Moibile fortress... and command center for planatary invasions... This Psycker was strong but no match for Eldred who in many fields is stronger than tjhe God Emporer of mankind. (he saw for example the Horus Heresy the Emps didn't...)

Still, I've heard on a few debates that GE of Man could smack Eldrad down. Though I don't really believe it myself.
