Challenge: Make ANH more like Lucas’ original vision
I know this is one of those challenge threads that won’t get any takers, but I’ll create it just as food for thought. I’ve been reading the starwarz.com prototype scripts that Lucas started writing in 1972, and I thought that they had some rather old-fashioned, Flash-Gordon type styles and conventions.
So, create your own version of ANH that is noticeably similar to the real one, and would fit in closely with the modern conception of Star Wars, but is still more influenced by Flash Gordon or George Lucas’s early versions.
Things I think it should include:
* Drastic name changes.
* It may take place in the 33rd (or 23rd) century.
* More, much more explanation of the Force, complete with weird “alien sounding” names.
* Luke would have the surname of Starkiller.
* Either Ben as we know him would be named Skywalker, or there would be another character named Skywalker with 12 children.
* Luke has siblings or more cousins.
* The Kiber Crystal should exist.
* The droids might be bureaucrats, instead.
* Utapau.
* Leia might be 11 years old, and/or possess witch powers.
* Han Solo is an ex-cabin boy, which means we know more of his past.
* Grand Moff Tarkin is a religious figure.
* Aside from the Emperor and Darth Vader there is the “Valorum, the Black Knight.”

Wasn't Han planned to be an alien rather than another human, as well? I recall hearing that somewhere...

Wait...so Greedo was going to be played by Harrison Ford? ^_^Mange the Swede wrote:Yes, in one of the early drafts, Han was a large green alien with gills.felineki wrote:Wasn't Han planned to be an alien rather than another human, as well? I recall hearing that somewhere...
Ceci n'est pas une signature.

Reading the OP is remarkably handy.Battlehymn Republic wrote:* Luke would have the surname of Starkiller.
On topic, I really don't see what the point of this thread is. You're just listing the ways the OT and the early, early, early drafts are different.
What's the Kiber Crystal?
"I want to mow down a bunch of motherfuckers with absurdly large weapons and relative impunity - preferably in and around a skyscraper. Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. The last level should involve (but not be limited to) multiple robo-Hitlers and a gorillasaurus rex."--Uraniun235 on his ideal FPS game
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force."--Darth Vader

I believe he means the Kaiburr Crystal, which acts as Force Focus IIRC. Basically, it enhances the natural Force abilities of the wielder.Trogdor wrote:What's the Kiber Crystal?

In the third draft of Star Wars (titled The Star Wars - From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller ) it was indeed called the Kiber crystal.Vicious wrote:I believe he means the Kaiburr Crystal, which acts as Force Focus IIRC. Ah, ok. I've seen it elsewhere as Kaiburr.Mange the Swede wrote:In the third draft of Star Wars (titled The Star Wars - From the Adventures of Luke Starkiller ) it was indeed called the Kiber crystal.Vicious wrote:I believe he means the Kaiburr Crystal, which acts as Force Focus IIRC. Yes, that's absolutely right. Alan Dean Foster called it the Kaiburr crystal in Splinter of the Mind's Eye.Vicious wrote:Ah, ok.
