Earths current nuclear Arsenal vs Completed DS 2
Scenario: A completed DS 2 gets pulled in to a temporal rift thingy and arrives at modern day earth (2005). DS2 starts toying with earth and starts bombarding earth but due to some technobabble, there is a massive power surge and all turbo lasers and superlaser is offline.
Earths leaders decides to launch all their nukes at the DS in an attempt to blow it up. Would it work?

The DS's shield generators can repel the force of a planet detonating at only 6 planetary diameters distance. How does that compare to the world's nuclear arsenal? And that's just the DS 1, the DS2 is many times more massive and powerful.

Yeah, it still won't do shit. It's nowhere nearly enough output to such an insanely large degree.

It might possibly work against an Acclamator if it all detonated at point blank range,
how much firepower in gigatons does earth have?

No it wouldn't. Acclimator shields need to be hit with well more than the 200 gigatons of each of its turbolasers for their peak point to be passed.the .303 bookworm wrote:It might possibly work against an Acclamator if it all detonated at point blank range,
Um, like less then five, I think.how much firepower in gigatons does earth have?

Not a chance in hell. If you even wanted to get a shield status display to fluctuate a thousandth of a percent, you'd have to have every single nuke detonate at the same time, in the same place, with the whole of their energy being funneled into a cone no more than a degree in size.
Worse, the light released from the explosion messes up Palps' view from his tower, he gets anoyed, and deploys enough bombers to flatten every single launching facility on Earth.

This has been another blunder by you friendly local idiot.

they might cause some damage (fighter guns in SW are low kT range), but I don't think that the missiles would be any serious threat to DS2 or an Acclamator.navy_seal55 wrote:Ok now that we know that will never work with shields up. What about with Shields down?

I recall reading (on this site I believe) that much of the Death Star's outer plating was built of the same material that makes up ISD sensor globes. If that is correct, than nuclear strikes could do superficial damage, perhaps even knock out some turbolaser turrets and sensor nodes, but as Spanky says, most of the sensitive equiptment would be buried under miles of hull plate.bilateralrope wrote:Depending how the superlaser is built, they might disable it if any fragile parts are one the surface, but thats about it

The fact in either cases of attacks against the Deathstar, the rebels didn't even think of shooting at Superlaser suggests that it's main components cannot be easily harmed by external attack.
