Too bad I missed that! Sounds like a Kodak Moment.Glimmervoid wrote:Lord Reven what’s your server policy on people bring up the chart box and expecting not to be killed the middle of a game.
I am still very pleased with how jumped off the bridge then on my way down, pulled you off the bridge with force pull then last you were mid air pushed you in to one of the pits to stop you getting away with the flag.
Meatgrinder's server policy on the chat box is this... do so at your own risk! If you get killed while chatting, changing settings or changing your underwear, it's your own fault. Too bad, point for the guy who killed you!

Ok my host site, www.JediKnight.net is down right now and has apparently been down for the past 24 hours or so. I don't know why this is. This shouldn't be happening, so I'm bugging the higher ups on our staff to fix it (when they get around to checking their messages).Lord Revan wrote:what with the server when I try to play I get "connection interrupted" message almost all the and when try check the server from the link I get "connection refused" and this due to the sad excuse of a PC I use since there were other player thaty seem to have the same problem.
All that page does is show the IP, current map, etc. It's useful but not required.
You can still use the IP to log in through ASE, Qtracker, your favorites whatever. Anyway, as I believe I said before, around 4 am every morning the server restarts. Close to that time the server starts sending automatic messages to everyone (which might cause some lag themselves I never thought about that) saying "server restarts in # minutes!" etc.
Finally when it does get ready to restart it says it will be back in 90 Minutes! (!). That's incredible. I don't know if EscapedTurkey needs to do a full system backup or something at that time or what, but simply issuing the command to restart the server takes a maximum of 2 minutes. So I usually just head in there at 4am or so if I'm up (usually) and restart it manually, thus it can be right back at 4:05 instead of 5:30.
However if there really IS something important going on (I have yet to find out if this is really the case) then restarting it manually might cause more problems. If it's still goofing up at 5:30, I can restart it again etc.
It's not as nice as some systems. The now defunct JediServers had a built in script that would auto restart the server if it ever crashed after 2 minutes. So you didn't need to sit there like a baby monitor so much.
Edit: Found out why JK.net is down, the site's being moved to a new server over the "next couple of days." So just add the IP to your favorites for Meatgrinder since you won't be able to check the server tracker in the meantime (with the site down).
The game server and JK.net are not connected, thankfully.
I agree. I've grown to detest the phrase "lamer".Kurgan wrote:Who... me, Lord Revan? If it was me, I was joking. I get killed while typing and it's not a big deal. Person B joins JKA game with person A. Person A gets slaughtered mercilessly in a surprise attack. Person A screams, "Lamer!" as an excuse for his own pitifulness.
(that happened to me the other day)
Alternatively,
Person A has his saber down when person B runs around corner and reflexively kills him. Person A screams "Lamer!" and starts a vote to kick person B.
Or,
Person A starts typing. Person B walks around the corner and kills him. Person A shouts, "Chatkiller!"
It's a game, not a chatroom...
Sorry for the rant but the snots that play JKA really annoy me. Kurgan's server is relatively free of that, but on other server's I've been kicked because some idiot wanted to chat and threw a fit when he ran around a corner right into me and I reflexively shot him.
Yeah it's this sense of entitlement that gets me. It's like we "owe" them respect, and it's not earned. They feel they deserve always to be given "a chance" and a "do over" whenever something doesn't go their way. Would they grudge others the same "respect"? Not likely. In any case, the game isn't about giving people chances, it's about beating them and getting the point/flag/objective. They've been brainwashed by the "honorz" servers where that sort of thing flies and the "lamers" are "punished."Praxis wrote:I agree. A lot of these guys also have this thing where they "hold back" certain abilities and then when they lose they can always claim "well if I had been using X, Y or Z (like you) I would have won" etc. Excuses, excuses!
I mean if you can win every game you play, great, more power to ya, but do people have to always fork out excuses and blame "lamers" when things don't always go their way?
Meatgrinder is and always has been a purely competative/fun environment for the game, not this "oh that didn't count, you lamer!" BS. We make JOKES sometimes, about laming/honorz, but nobody will be kicked for "dishonorable" tactics. I'm not talking about hiding with the capturable in Siege to prevent the game ever finishing out of spite, but rather the usual chatkill/saberdown killed/spamming/spawn killing and random accusations of cheating (or 'scripting'), etc that everyone whines about constantly in other games.

I admit I am not the most brilliant player and a lot of times it is frustrating. I prefer to play saber-only and when you're rocketed, blown by explosives or thermals, it's not so pleasant. However I did try to respect people chatting. Some of the people could saw me standing in front of them and waiting for them to finish chatting before engaging.
But I find no use in "lamering" those that do not respect the same rules I do. It's the same like on this board ... who doesn't like the rules is free to go away.
As a personal preference, I think it would be really nice to have some saber-and-force-only games, just for the fun of it.

Yeah, I try to respect people when typing too, but if I run around the corner and kill them on reflex, hey, it's their fault for typing IMHO. And if they're in my base in a CTF, again, it's their fault for typing, I'm not going to let an enemy stay in my base.Comosicus wrote:I admit I am not the most brilliant player and a lot of times it is frustrating. In FFA I'll usually let them type unless, again, I kill them on reflex.
Agreed, fully. And thats one of the reasons I really like your server. Hey, some people who play JKA! Its good to know the game aint totally dead yet.
The honnor/anti laming servers can be really fun sometimes if you hang around with a bunch of people you know. Otherwise, its pretty lame. Have any of yall tried the Movie Battles 2 mod? Its mighty cool IMHO. It turns siege into a more counter strike game with classes etc. Check it out here

I was playing CTF a few days ago and came up to my flagstand (The other team currently had the flag) and he was typing. Knowing full well he was typing I killed him anyway. He called me a typekiller. I responded "Well maybe you shouldn't have been standing there."
I will respect someone typing, I will pass by you and leave you alone. But if you're standing in my base, you have no one to blame but your own damn self for being retarded enough to be typing. Besides, how do I know you're not being a jackass and just have the typing symbol up until your team scores and are then immediately going to take down the typing, grab my flag and run? That's how I see it anyway.

I actually have a cfg setup for Sabers Only Full Force play on FFA1, I just haven't had any real demand for it yet.Comosicus wrote:I admit I am not the most brilliant player and a lot of times it is frustrating. On my server, if you kill somebody, unless they are on your same team, it's legit. So don't worry about it. If somebody is getting pissed because you're not following THEIR honor code, that's their problem.Glimmervoid wrote:No it was some random person and I was checking I had not done some thing wrong.Kurgan wrote:Who... me, Lord Revan? Yeah. But it depends on what you mean by "cheating."Lord Revan wrote:Kurgan correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the server policy that everything except outright cheating is permited in most maps (if not all the maps).
Using some script to exploit a bug for advantage I guess is the only real form of "cheating" that exists in the game, unless cheat mode is enable (which it never is). Now certain tactics that deliberately screw up the game, like hiding with the capturable/flag on purpose to grind the game to a halt or deliberately letting the enemy into your base to screw over your team, that's not permitted. But that's the kind of thing you either need to \callteamvote kick <player> (anyone can do that for a bad teammate btw) or else report it to me.
Calling somebody a "cheater" or "scripting" unfortunately gets thrown around so much (and so unfairly in most cases) that it's really a judgement call. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt (Ie: HOW is so and so cheating? etc).
Killtrackers aren't part of the game, and annoying. They also can potentially be bad for the game flow by pushing team chat text off the screen (there's no ignore feature yet) or other stuff. Abused a lot they can cause extra lag (not much, though probably). They're also so often used in places they don't belong (about the only place they might make sense in is pure FFA). That's why I insist on silence.
Honestly I'm amazed at how many MB2 servers there are, considering they expect you to download something in the order of 90+ megs of pk3's before you can play it! From the sound of it they take Siege and make it more "movie-like" and "RPG like." That could be good or bad I guess. I am kinda disappointed they didn't throw their talents into making more quality Siege maps, instead of focusing on MB2 maps. MovieBattles for JK2 made a lot of sense because there was no class based system for Jedi Outcast, period. Then JA came along with Siege, and they still insisted on their system. Their choice of course, I just kinda wish there were more pure Siege maps.Ninja of the North wrote:Hey, some people who play JKA! Its good to know the game aint totally dead yet.

I love using mods, it's just so hard to get others to use them since people refuse to use downloaded stuff beyond tiny size (maybe MB2 is the exception, whoa!), and the Q3 transfer engine is so crappily slow.
There are some mods that include improved file transfer engines, like Red Slushie and Xmod2, the trouble is those transfer engines require that you first have the client version of that mod installed for you to benefit from it, limiting its usefulness.
But there is only so much you can do server side (I'm amazed at what mods like OJP can do without any client component) but still...

Well I have over 300 megs of screenshots, so I don't really have time at the moment to post the best ones with thumbnails, but I do have some demos that are kinda fun. If I find anymore good ones I have sitting around on my drive (created by me) I'll post them up when I can...
Some close CTF games and even Fluffy the Rancor doing a funny dance! Plus a duel, and some other stuff.
And yes, I'm using fake names in a few of those games.

Fluffy the Rancor
Those crazy Jawas!
Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat... (other team scored 6 points early on in the match seemingly without effort, but your's truly's team makes a comeback!)
To view these properly you may need to install the client side portion of OJP Basic Mod (which can be downloaded from http://ojp.jediknight.net
Post any bugs you find with this mod on the OJP forums (part of LucasForums.com)!

I just got this used for $5. I have to play through single-player first and such, but are there any mods or campaigns or fan-patches I should download?
EDIT: Er... JKA is forcing my monitor into standby. I'm guessing it doesn't like the refresh rate or something. Anyone had a similar problem, and a solution?

As a first suggestion, try and reduce the resolution. You might try and play at a resolution which your monitor doesn't support at the default refresh rate.DPDarkPrimus wrote:
