It's convenient. It's easier to write a story about us being oppressed than about us oppressing them.

Although there have been some anti-type stories... Vandread is about a bunch of human colonists who are being hunted down by the immensely powerful motherships of Earth for use as spare parts. Dfferent worlds have different body parts that are harvested, for example, the planet ANpatos is harvested for spinal cords, another planet is harvested for their skin, a third planet is harvested for RBCs, etc.

Because most stories are written form a Human-centric veiwpoint (excepting those in which humans are not involved at all). Because of this, humans are invariably portrayed as "the good guys." As a general rule, "the good guys" are never the agressors. Because of this, battles involving humans will nearly always have the humans being invaded by the aliens.

It's also harder to write about aliens being the oppressed party, because very few scriptwriters can do alien thinking well.

Starship Troopers *spitsonthefloor* was the worst bad ass movie I ever saw, and didn't leave the cinema, but IIRC (and I might be wrong about this I have only seen this movie that one time) weren't the humans invading the giant bugs? I can't really be too sure about this, mainly because I was actually going for the bugs and not the Troopers, but there you have it!

• Poor acting (if that's what they called it)
• Poor character development.
• Stupid premise.
• Fucked up science.
• Poor military thought and planning and action.

But the main reason; When Starship Troopers was out in the cinema, it coencided with the release of S:AAB on TV. So I had extremely high standards to judge it on, and it failed in every single catagory.
