n “Rocks Around the Clock: The Eons That Never Were,” Geologist Dr. Emil Silvestru rejectedmthe notion that the earth had existed for millions of years, and instead offered a six thousand year chronology: Creation, six days, Lost World, 1700 years, no big mountains, no plate tectonics, Flood, 370 days, creation of high mountains, deep oceans, sedimentary rocks, plate tectonics form continents, Ice Age, 1000 years, and Post Ice Age, 3000 years.
Flood hydrology is a belief that the flood covered the entire earth.

How do these people get far enough through college to recieve the title "Dr."?

Well, going by this quote from him, "Once I became a Christian," Emil says, "I knew I had to TUNE UP my scientific knowledge with the Scriptures." He seems to have just gone plain nuts.wolveraptor wrote:How do these people get far enough through college to recieve the title "Dr."?
Especially when you consider his PhD was in cave formation (Karst topography, it is cave formation/structure right?), and that general area.
Dwarf Obsessive. There's just something about short barrel-chested people with a penchent for axes and beards.
"Protecting the hypothesis."
That's all they ever do. They have their conclusion all laid out for them in the Bible, so they just come up with some moronic, twisted scenario that would mostly match known evidence and "prove" their hypothesis. When additional evidence disproves their scenario, they either twist it farther to account for the new facts, or come up with a NEW twisted scenario.
Or just ignore reality and say it was all just a miracle beyond our understanding

It could be that he was a fundie before he earned the degree, and simply used the degree to help attempt to lend some form of credence to his bullshit.wolveraptor wrote:So despite his degree, he still fell for fundie bullshit? I thought education vaccinated you against such stupidity.

Smart people aren't immune to stupidity, and when they fall victim to stupidity it is harder for them to break from it because they are better at rationalizing.

But if he was previously a fundie, he couldn't have gotten the degree at any self-respecting university, especially if his thesis was on something as idiotic as this.General Zod wrote:It could be that he was a fundie before he earned the degree, and simply used the degree to help attempt to lend some form of credence to his bullshit.wolveraptor wrote:So despite his degree, he still fell for fundie bullshit? Sure he could. He simply told them what they wanted to hear, voila, one degree. He immersed himself in a subject that disagreed with his core beliefs, yet kept his mouth shut and gave them bullshit for years and years? It takes a helluva lot of determination, and an extraordinarily deep motive to endure that. I could never get a degree in art, or whatever, by just telling them what they wanted to here.Sure he could. He simply told them what they wanted to hear, voila, one degree. In English I wrote in my essays what I thought my teachers wanted to hear. Granted it didn't go against my "core beliefs", but I belief I can do that too.wolveraptor wrote:He immersed himself in a subject that disagreed with his core beliefs, yet kept his mouth shut and gave them bullshit for years and years? I quite cheerfully write papers in english I disagree with. The last one I wrote was a 12 page monologue on why humanity sucks. I dont believe it, but the teacher does, and I want the grade.

What I meant was that it'd be difficult to put yourself through a full-fledged college course in a subject you weren't even interested in.
Besides, writing on why humanity sucks is easy. All you have to do is go all Maddox.

So when this guy flips by the Science channel, does he complain about how the left-wing television has shows that brainwash the public? I'd really like to go with someone like this to the Smithsonian. My Christian friend makes some pretty wild claims, and I've suggested we go down to D.C. and check out the museums. I tell him that his beliefs would basically have him saying: "thats not true!" to just about every exhibit in the place.....the argument always ends right there!

I don't seem to recall them mentioning WHERE the idiot got his degree. Perhaps the same mail order service house that Kent Hovind got his?

Yep, their opening guy has NO science background, nothing but ART related areas. The six-day conference opened with a performance by Buddy Davis - a Dinosaur sculptor, author/speaker, and musician, whose keynote presentations clarified the creationist's take on issues such as the age of the earth and fossils.
You know anyone who attacks ID from the creationist side of the debate because it isn't Biblical enough is a full blown Fundi moron.Dinosaurs were also explained. According to John Whitcomb, co-author of the seminal creationist book, The Genesis Flood (1961), Noah's ark carried 1,000 different kinds of dinosaurs as well as all of the other species, and the book has sold more than a quarter of a million copies in English.
Considered the father of modern creationism, Whitcomb is critical of those who accept progressive creationism or intelligent design.
The intelligent design movement tries to defeat evolution without any reference to the Bible or the Creator of the World, he said.
OoooooK. Just WHAT does creationism have to do with Christian salvation?"Are people believing in Christ their Lord and Savior as a result of hearing the message of intelligent design scholars?" he asked.
And light was supposedly created befroe any of those things. Without the stars, where did the light come from? Angles?Ken Ham, president of AiG, rejects the Big Bang because Genesis explains God created the waters and Earth on the third day, and the sun, moon and stars on the fourth day.
IOW, ignore all evidence that contradicts the Bible. In his talk "What's the Best Evidence that God Created," Carl Kerby said, "You should allow the Word of God to drive your understanding of the evidence."
...and the color cyan (if I may be permitted to quote one of Darth Wong's sig banners.According to one assessment, at the root of the creationist argument is the concern that evolution undermines moral beliefs, leading to lawlessness, family breakdown, homosexuality, pornography, and abortion.
I'd really like to see HOW evolution promiotes these things since homosexuality is essentially an evolutionary dead end.
Where does he get the idea that apes have no morality? I've seen apes that are more humane than a lot of his Cristian Fundies. If evolution is true, said Philip Bell in his talk, and we are descended from ape-like animals with no morality, no aesthetic sensibility and no soul," then "you would have no purpose for your existence."
Well, it IS Fallwell, what do you expect. But I must ask again, HOW does believing in creationism give you values?"If we don't understand the young earth and how God created it in six 24-hour days, then our values are skewed, said the Reverend Jerry Falwell, and he is hopeful that "The biblical account is the believable one. The creation debate is being won."

With so many kinds of DINOSAURS alone, imagine how many animals you have to fit on the Ark... not like it's possible to have that many dinosaurs in that small a space.inosaurs were also explained.
