Thompson this afternoon updated his earlier statement, saying he is aware certain mods only remove "the blur," but adds that "Electronic Arts has done nothing about this." Thompson's new conclusion: EA is "cooperating, gleefully, with the mod community to turn Sims 2 into a porn offering."

So, he was wrong about a cheat code being needed to remove the blur, was he? Not only that, but now he's asserting that EA is cooperating "gleefully" with mod communities, of course, without evidence. If EA's employees were working to help create code for full frontal nudity for the child models or teen models then those employees should be fire and prosecuted, but I doubt that managment would be dumb enough to support that.

This is very different than the GTA:SA scandle, since none of the code is actually there but is being added by modifications. If Thompson should be going after anyone it should be the modders, not EA.

I wonder if there's any way that EA could use his earlier statements against him. Since he basically accuses of them of intentionally placing in the option to turn the blur effect off (whereas all the guides I've been reading just imply you can alter coloring hues and that sort of stuff) in order to set up a pedophilic playground of sorts, could they take that as libel and slander against him? Not to mention what Erik just pointed out, this could make for some interesting sparks - cripes, people might actually back EA in this instance.

EDIT: And I'll bet a dollar some conservative is looking at that second slide in disgust. Oh, for shame! EA has created a game in which you can corrupt the pure, innocent minds of children by letting them gaze upon the nude female form! Think of the children!

You know... going after EA's top seller series is a sure way to get in trouble. I don't think the question is IF EA will fight back, more along the lines of how and when.

And when they do... I'm rooting for EA. Better the devil you know and all that.

Besides if he really wanted to go after the games and not the money, why isn't he targeting a game like Singles? Or Leisure Suit Larry for that matter? To me this looks like he's trying for a "We give you money, now go away!" kind of deal. I wonder how EA is gonna handle that...

The Sims' 'nude' skin library had no body details and was basically a Barbie doll with muscle and bone definition. And sinse it seem this is still the case with EA's sequel, this:

In the statement, Thompson says, "Sims 2, the latest version of the Sims video game franchise ... contains, according to video game news sites, full frontal nudity, including nipples, penises, labia, and pubic hair."

Is a complete and total baldfaced lie. But of course Thompson is convinced two embracing nude dolls is far too much for a 13+ market (even though I'm sure anyone by that age has at least seen such degree of action already. It's nothing fancy):

Thompson doesn't buy it. "The sex and the nudity are in the game. That's the point. The blur is an admission that even the 'Ken and Barbie' features should not be displayed. The blur can be disarmed. This is no different than what is in San Andreas, although worse."

It's worse to add modesty to harmless implied nudity now? What a fucking douche.

I'll bet you 180 Soviet Rubles and a magic pot that creates two of whatever is placed in it: she's done worse with her dolls than what's in essentially a low PG-13 game.

I mean sex in the first game was just two sims ducking under the sheets and watching the lumps giggle and chase each other like gophers. It was hilarious and not even remotely sexually explicit.

This guy is a genius. He's fresh off a big-ticket win, and now he's capitalizing... throw the same threat at a big name game/publisher in the hopes that they'll just chuck some buckets o' cash his way to shut him up.

I hope they throw their lawyers back at him. Countersue. Make this fool put his money where his mouth is, and if he can't step up, they'll have him for slander (or libel, I forget which it'd be). If they fold, he'll just go down the line, threatening lawsuits for any game with anything remotely sexual.

This may have a positive backlash, though (positive for US)... if all these commonplace games get Adults Only ratings, that rating itself will stop being seen as so taboo, and developers can just go for broke...
