I was thinking we would use this board to organize teams in advance sort of thing. So say 20 people would know to go storm troopers and the 4 Jedi.

Or maybe agree special objectives or recreate part of the starwars story (2 Jedi, 20 battle droids and count dukwoo (sp) for example).

The "Jedi Academy Reloaded" mod will allow you to set access permissions that would allow logged in users to spawn NPCs ranging from default ones (Reborn, Tavion, Stormtroopers, etc) to any NPC the serer has loaded. Ex: If you make a skin that has an NPC file with it, you can spawn the NPC version of it. This works with vehicles and space ships as well.

Two things:
If someone doesn't have the particular NPC on their PC and you spawn it, they will be kicked from the server.
Depending on how powerful your server is: spawning mass NPCs can cause horrible CPU utilization and even drag down the FPS of the client machines.

Sounds like it might be fun, but spawning "hundreds of stormtroopers" would make the server crash or at best lag people heavily.

If we're wanting to go that route I suggest we just do Co-Op (which OJP Basic Mod supports). It's not perfect, but we could go through the SP maps with a handful of people and kill enemies (remember of course that if you die, you respawn close to the beginning of the map and have to run all the way back... you can also get stuck too) which would die in 1-2 hits considering your power.

Some SP maps work better than others.

Well hopefully I can get to those maps in the next day or so.

Any progress on getting those readme files Praxis? Como and some other guys asked me about the Grevious skin but I could only tell them to "go fish" since I had no information about it, just the skin itself. ;p

Every single model is available on jkafiles.com, I just haven't found enough time to individually grab each readme. Hopefully I can find the time tomorrow.

I'll put the maps up on Filefront tomorrow morning as well.

The model itself:

I found grevious (an updated version) on pcgamemods, but yes, please do the work and get those files and send me a list of links (if not a full pack if you want to).

Ok PcGamemods.com has just about everything, and so I've been downloading and carefully sorting the files. It's amazing how many people put the "thumbs.db" files into their mods. IIRC, this is just a file auto generated by WindowsXP to allow you to view thumbnails of picture files (like jpegs). They should be useless space fillers in JA pk3's, so I've removed them. Collectively that should save some space.

I also renamed many readme files (and a couple of authors didn't create ANY readme's for their files so I did, copy 'n' paste their comments from pcgamemods.com so at least you know who made it and where to get it!).

As it stands, below is a pic of the files I've pieced together and their relative sizes.

Image

Notes: I have re-packed the original pk3's and readmes, removing any extraneous single player pk3's and stuff like vehicles that won't be usable on our non-cheats server anyway.

I still need to do further testing to make sure there are no serious mod conflicts or repeats. These mod packs are focused on Episode III. Unfortunately there is rarely one "best" skin of any one ROTS character, so in cases where it's close I've included multiple versions, and you get to pick which one you want. Sadly some models don't have a JA version, only a JK2 version. While the model will be usable in JA, you'll notice the animations with Dual Sabers are messed up when you do the Saber Barrier move or the Taunt. With the saber barrier you only throw one saber, so the move is actually weaker (though you might have slightly more protection while doing it). Many of the skins also lack unique sounds. This is too bad, but until the DVD comes out, good quality samples can be difficult to obtain and put in. Anyway I don't have the time to create any, so again, there you go.

I think one of the Obi-Wan variants, while decent, lacks team skin support (looks the same for both sides) so you have to make sure you're using your team beacon to tell them apart.

There are a couple of mods in there that I think are just generally good to use on the server, so those will also be listed later. I have another page or so of mods to short through. I thought about grabbing some other skins that are popular like Darth Maul and Jango Fett (there's dozens of versions of them of course) but then I'm not putting together an "ultimate star wars jka skinpack" only a collection of ROTS mods that are stable in multiplayer without cheats. So I'm going to focus on ROTS skins and maybe throw in another "prequel skins" zip later if I still have time.

This won't be ready for "release" for a few more days yet, thanks for waiting. It will be pointless to dump all the skins on the server (only the maps need go on), so people who want to use them can download them and join, hoping to find other SD.net members who use them.

Here is a list of what we have so far (I may nix something if I notice a major problem, but so far they seem okay, though the quality varies and some just have different flaws than their variants):

Skins Pack:

- Darth Sideous (in his various outfits, with and without hood)
- Chanceller Palpatine (in his various outfits)
- General Grevious (the best one)
- Obi-Wan Kenobi (a few variants, not excellent quality)
- Anakin Skywalker (lots of variants in all possible outfits)
- Darth Vader (the best ones I could find plus some variants)
- Padme (in her various outfits)
- Aayla Secura (yes, so shut up AS fanb0iz!)
- Jawa (to differentiate in team games)
- Scout Trooper (a few variants, all Ep3 style)
- Republic Stormtroopers (a few variants, of varying quality)
- Count Dooku (the best one)

Extras Pack:

- Force Push sound replacement (Darth Maul's push from TPM)

- Force sounds replacements (optional, may conflict with above, so choose. affects Speed, Push, Pull)

- Darth Maul's hilts (regular staff and broken staff). For fun since Maul isn't included.

- Star Wars Saga Ultimate Hilt pack (may conflict or overwrite above, includes hilts from all the movies)

- ROTS Hilt Pack. An alternate hilt pack done by somebody else, featuring only hilts from Episode III. Choose your favorite.

- Episode III Taunts. In case you want to "fix" some of the skins, though unless the directories match up properly, this will only work with certain ones. Up to you what you want to do with it, but it's there.

- Episode III Sabers. Blade and sound replacements advertised as making them look more like those in ROTS.

- EP3 Blades. Another attempt at the above by somebody else. Without sounds. Obviously may conflict, so choose the one you like.

- Digital Storm Studios Saber Replacement Sounds. Another optional saber sound replacement. Could go well with a EP3 Blades combo.

Maps Pack:

- Mustaphar. As mapped "From Rumors." This one was done before the film actually came out. There's a bigger, more "accurate" version available, but either will do, or I may just throw in both. Neither version is really very well setup for FFA. Basically it's more like a really fancy duel/powerduel map or a sabers only full force deathmatch.

- Palpatine's Office. See above problems.

- Invisible Hand. See above problems.

No Utapau?

BTW, why not throw in Maul, Yoda, and Kit Fisto? All were major players in the movies they were in (well, Kit Fisto was debatable, but has many fans).

To add to the above:

Skins Pack Additions (pardon spelling)
(and yes, many of these I had to scrounge from JK2):

-Plo Koon
-Kit Fisto
-C-3PO
-Shaak Ti
-Ki Adi Mundi
-Saesee Tin
-Quinlan Voss (even though he's only mentioned but never shown)
-Royal Guard
-Super Battledroid
-Battle Droid
-Luminara (think she was supposed to be there, but not shown)
-Bultar Swan (see above)
-Bariss Offee (see above)
-Yoda
-Mon Mothma (barely looks different than the old one,
just fewer wrinkles and slightly modified clothes)
another Darth Vader variant (from JK2) for better team skins

I grabbed a Darth Maul (but the team skins suck) and a nice
Jango Fett too.

Working on locating some decent Ep3 "ARC" Troopers like Cody, etc. which I know exist.

Some characters that don't seem to have skins of them yet that
would be neat: Bail Organa, Captain Typho, Representative Binks,
Rune Haako, Nut Gunray & any other Seperatists (besides Dooku),
Senate Guards, Clone Pilots, Tarfful, and young Tarkin. Couldn't
find an Agen Kolar, but could always throw in an Eeth Koth instead. ;)

Maps:

I have been unable to find Utapau yet as a stand alone (ie: not part
of the unweildy Episode III mod) or the non "based on rumors"
Mustafar.

Padme's apartment is so gaudy and horrible (just bad choice of colors
and textures or lack thereof) that I don't know why anyone would want
to play it online. ;P

Found a "Battle Over Coruscant" map that sounds great in theory and
has some nice eye candy, but is ultimately impractical for online play (it's a deathmatch, everyone spawns in the same hangar, ships are really far apart, low FPS, etc). More of a "show off the new ships" area than a true balanced scenario, sadly.

That's really all I have time for this week. I have to go find an apartment in the next few days, so I'll get back to this around Monday.

I refuse to do the bloated nightmare that the Episode III mod guys did, so
I'll be repacking the files like this...

Skins pack (all the skin pk3's and their readmes) --- 1 zip file

Maps pack (all the map pk3's and their readmes) ---- 1 zip file

Extras pack (all the optional mods that don't fit in the above categories with their readmes) --- 1 zip file

OJP Client Side Mod (optional, but highly recommended) ---- 1 zip file

Any other zips will be like extras, totally optional. But the skins and stuff will not be seperate zips, they'll be all together (but each pk3 is individual so you can delete the ones you don't want).

I'll be nixing any single player stuff or stuff that conflicts or just plain sucks (hopefully I won't miss anything) in order to cut down on file size.

People can just download what they plan to use (only maps would really restrict anyone since without the map you can't play). The server is "non-pure" so you can just delete any skins you don't want to see and it'll be no problem. Anyone with a skin you don't have will just look like Kyle to you.

Hopefully we can have these hosted in one location such as FileFront or whatnot. These are repacks so they might not be approved of by some hosting sites. I don't plan to try to make it look like we're stealing anyone's credit. I can write up a quick doc for each zip to explain what it contains and who made what too. I'm pretty close to done gathering the files, having scanned the major mod sites and found pretty much everything I was looking for. Most of the stuff I've got now has been prepared, so we're almost done!

A pk3 with just Mustafar and Utapau. Very nice.

Battle Over Coruscant didn't work for me. Maybe my game just messed up, but when i tried jumping out of the ship's hangar, when you fall really far it warps you back up, and you keep falling forever and ever (when you fall far enough it warps back up to the sky and repeats).

I force pushed an AI out of the hangar and he kept falling indefinitely as well.

-Luminara (think she was supposed to be there, but not shown)
Luminara was visible on Kashyyyk down with the troops in Episode 3.

Maybe you could add in a auto dismemberment enablement?
Sure would match the movies.

Oh, here's some Episode 3 clonetroopers (including Cody, JKA models rather than JK2, and with team colors):

http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/E ... ones;43976

And Ep 2 clonetroopers:
http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/C ... oper;36646

I think this is the Clonetrooper rifle we saw in that crappy mod (IMHO that gun was awesome):
http://pcgamemods.com/13393/ if you want to include it with the extras.

Already taken care of. Here's how it works:

On your end you need to type \cg_dismember 3

The server is already set to full dismemberment, so all you're doing is "turning it on" on your end so you see it. No mods required!

OJP only adds the possibility of "gibs" from explosive kills (and the primary flechette can blast off limbs at close range).

It's really too bad about all these "Episode 3 Clone" skinpacks. Not one of them does what they should do, which is to take the Episode II clone and simply give it a new helmet. Instead they take the (already inaccurate to the movies) default Stormtrooper and paint on the new stuff... or a couple I've seen take HapSlash's (OT accurate) Stormtrooper models and paint the textures over them. Of course this tends to look even worse because HS tends to model stuff rather than just texture it, making reskin jobs a little too obvious...

Well, until something better comes along! Again, as I said I'm going to focus on Episode 3 Mods. Otherwise we might as well go whole hog and do a "Prequel Mods collection" or something. That's a bit overkill I think. The file sizes are already pretty big as it is. Maybe some other time.. ;)

Thanks for the links. I guess I've really pretty much combed through PCGM but haven't quite exhausted JK3files.com for stuff. Got the links, will check out.

As to Battle over Coruscant, it's simple really. You just walk into one of the doors and they'll teleport you instantly to a room with a ship. Hit use on the ship and the rest is just basejka ship flying basics. The thing is there's nothing to accomplish, the map is laggy, etc. It's impractical for online play. Maybe if it were a LAN party and everyone had a ninja PC...

PS: Dang those maps are huge. The Maps Zip is going to be well over 100 megs at least (and just for a handful of essentially dueling maps).

I meant with regards to Star Wars. ;)

Unfortunately the Trek models so far aren't... they're just skins, and while some that I've seen look acceptable (like Spock in his movie era uniform or Picard) most of them are pretty low quality. :P

Now Wesley Crusher mopping the floor with Jango Fett would be fun to see, or Laxwanna Troi decapitating General Grevious. ;)

If only there was an auto converter for Elite Force Models (even if they are lower poly than JA models).

Nope. Single player has a completely different scheme for getting dismemberment to work (and it's different from Jedi Outcast's too, meaning many sites list the wrong method to get it to work). I suggest you check out the following thread which goes into exhaustive detail on it (and the problems with it) on my forum:
