I actually explained to a YEC that the universe itself must be several billions of years old, as light from galaxies up to 14 billion light years away have reached the earth. This light would have not had time to get here if the universe were 6k year old.
You know what the fucktard told me? He told me that God created the universe with that light already on the way..... fucking retards...

I've had that exact conversation with a friend of mine (he's recently declared himself to be an atheist ).You know what the fucktard told me? He told me that God created the universe with that light already on the way..... fucking retards...
I told him that creating the light already enroute would imply a dishonest God, who genuinely wanted to trick mankind into disbelieving him.
Not to mention the basic flaws inherant in arguing that "well, it's that way becuase God made it that way! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!"

Yeah, by the same logic, you could claim that God created the world 5 minutes ago, with all of us already on our way to whatever we were on our way to. It's bloody foolish. "God created you with the idea to make this post in your head! It had nothing to do with several years of being pissed off at dumbfuck atheists."
So long, and thanks for all the fish

I ran into one idiot once who accused me of "the Fallacy Fallacy." According to him, it's a fallacy to point out fallacies in an opponent's argument as a rebuttal.Dooey Jo wrote:But one of them even thinks that fallacies are valid arguments, so...

But then him pointing out your use of the fallacy fallacy () would be a fallacy itself wouldn't it?Darth Wong wrote:I ran into one idiot once who accused me of "the Fallacy Fallacy." According to him, it's a fallacy to point out fallacies in an opponent's argument as a rebuttal.

It might be adressed already in this topic in which case I missed it. Anyway. Even if, somehow Noah could fit in 2 animals of each kind in the ark... Than what? It ends right there after their first generation because the next generation will be a bunch of freaks. What's the fundie response to that?

It involves some wanker-esque explanation of earlier animals having perfect genetics, and that only after Flood-clouds receded did the sun fuck up their genetics so that inbreeding became wrong.

Obviously inbreeding is good. Just look at the intelligence of the Fundies, er never mind.wautd wrote:It might be adressed already in this topic in which case I missed it. Anyway. I think they think God can temporarily suspend inbreeding problems. That's why Humanity didn't have inbreeding problems originally. Or the animals/humans were still close enough from the "perfect originals" and not mutated/degraded enough for inbreeding to be a problem.wautd wrote:It might be adressed already in this topic in which case I missed it. I never quite got why the flood had to cover the entire earth anyway. I mean, surely Noah wasn't going to travel to the Himalayas and back in his little boat with no sails etc. in forty days and forty nights.
Not that I ever bought into that myth anyway. I liked the Greek one much better, where they repopulated the world by throwing rocks behind their heads. It made so much more sense (in the scheme of myths), because you didn't have this silly "only one family left" silliness going on.

Actually, the Greek version is better because Spartans kicked ass. The Earth also revolves around the sun because the Spartans kicked ass.

Actually, they would have been herbivores prior to the 'eating of the fruit' incident in the Garden of Eden, not after the flood. Regardless, it would be silly to create a lion with it's type of teath and jaw power if it only ate plants.Dooey Jo wrote: Whenever the Flood is brought up, I can't help but think of that moron who wrote that all animals were herbivores prior to the Flood, including the T-rex. And you just got to love the justification for that claim: Bears are omnivore! That's just brilliant logic!
Apparently, there were no incects on the Ark. Only animals in which "was the breath of life" were on the Ark. They say that the incects survived by clinging to D'ebris or stowed away on the ark. Of course, I asked them about dolphins/whales who have "the breath of life", sea gulls, ducks, geese, etc. that didn't have to be on an ark to survive, or how all the thouseands of species of incect around the world found stuff to cling onto for around a half year.... no responses.Dooey Jo wrote: Anyhow, I would like to see how the fundies explain how they could have wood inhabiting termites on the Ark. They would have had to take at least one queen with them, and those things lay eggs like there's no tomorrow. It would not take long for them to be very fucked

6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
6:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every [sort] shall come unto thee, to keep [them] alive.

Nah, they probably just had extra ants which they didn't count.
And continuing with that train of thought, it's a good thing most of the animals were smart enough to bring along a 4-month supply of their region-specific diets. I can imagine a pair of Koalas hefting huge bundles of eucalyptus leaves; how prudent of them.

I wonder how much earlier god told the sloths to start gathering, before he told Noah about the flood?Utsanomiko wrote:Nah, they probably just had extra ants which they didn't count.

That is to say nothing of snails, of whom I would assume had to make a bee line and keep a brisk pace for the Ark's location the very moment they were plopped down in Eden.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I wonder how much earlier god told the sloths to start gathering, before he told Noah about the flood?Utsanomiko wrote:Nah, they probably just had extra ants which they didn't count.

Evolution can only occur if god wills it. He willed it after the flood, and it never happened again. Never!wautd wrote:Maybe all species that live now have evolved from all the 10 animals they could cram in the ark in a mere 6000 years

I'm having a Flood discussion with a fundy on another board. His proposal was a bit different than most-
He proposes that "fountains of the deep" from the ocean floor launched a mass the equivalent of 1/3 of the Earth's oceans into the upper atmoshpere. THis was the rain, and the rest of the water just flowed from the fountains.
Unless my math is wrong...an explosion strong enough to launch that much water into low orbit should be enough to Death Star the planet.

He pulled the 1/3 number out of his ass. He wanted to use that as a guesstimate of how much of the Flood would fall as rain, vs how much would just gush up from these magic springs. He also somehow thinks that the water launching into the upper atmosphere or even space would vent heat into space to kick off the Ice Age.I've heard that one before, though no clue where he got the 1/3rd number. Fails to mention the friction of that much water rushing out of the ground that fast should melt large parts of the Earth's crust.
I've disabused him with math, but he's been having a lot of trouble with the laws of thermodynamics. Apparently to him, a rainstorm is a rainstorm, and raindrops to not release megatons of energy.

It's understandable that he doesn't understand. Experience with rainstorms typically makes people feel cold, so megatons of heat being released doesn't make very much sense to people that can't understand that each raindrop carries its own energy, and creates friction.
So long, and thanks for all the fish
