I already know how to do this. Start > Run > type "cmd", click "enter", et cetera, as instructed here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodte ... rtfat.mspx
There was one step that I didn't expect but probably should have, though: I'm told that there are processes running on the volume to be affected, so the conversion can't take place. I'm asked if I want to "dismount" it so that the conversion could take place. I'm unsure what will happen if I do. I have fears of the OS no longer booting and such. Can someone clear this up for me?

If The Infinity Program were not a forum, it would be a pie-in-the-sky project.

Windows would be using the disk.
When it says it will try to 'dismount" the disk it will fail, and then ask if you want to convert it next boot.
And barring power failure during the convert process nothing should go wrong.

I did as you suggested. Got the same message. My main concern is what will happen if I choose to "dismount", as the cmd suggests I do. Here's the message I get:Uranium235 wrote:Chances are there's something running that has a file open on the hard drive.
Your best bet would be to run the conversion program while in safe mode.
Convert cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Convert may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)
EDIT: Quoted person I'm referring to.
