Judging from the info out now, you people might wanna think of saving your money and buying Supreme Commander instead. As of now, SupCom mauls EaW in nearly every category (perhaps even graphics, cause it was recently said on the GPG forums that the terrain will also be all 3D).

EaW is Star Wars. SC isn't. Star Wars games are a protected category in Vympel's Game Purchase Act 1993 (NSW) ("the Act").

Under Section 3 sub-section (1) part (c), no game in the same genre as a Star Wars game (see Section 1, definitions), no matter how superior it is deemed via whatever objective or subjective means at Vympel's disposal, will have superior/exclusive purchase rights over said Star Wars game.

In essence, both will be purchased. "Saving money" is prohibited under the Act.

Section 1

Definitions

[extract]

"Star Wars game" A game of any genre being of subject matter related to the Star Wars franchise (as determined by association with Lucasfilm Ltd, Lucasarts Ltd, or any relevant subsidiary) that doesn't suck.

"Suck" Is determined either subjectively or objectively to be a bad game by whatever means at Vympel's disposal.

I see we think along the same lines. I'm personally looking forward to this, and it seems like a good reason to finally upgrade ye old graphics card. It would be nice if you could play a campaign from clone wars to rebellion.

I so am not caring about EaW. It looks like an Age of Empires game, but with ships. Really, there's not much that seems to be more interesting than a current game of Dawn of War or Rise of Nations, or for the space combat, Homeworld 2 (point defense mod), slash Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

Supreme Commander however.... looks like everything we've always wanted added on to TA, /and/ with amazing graphics to boot.

If thats the ONLY draw of the game as of now, you need to re-consider where SW geekness and good sense collide.

Not as much as watching the Commander lob nuclear grenades, or break tanks over it's knee... :P

You know, I remember throwing XWAU models into the XvT version of TIE Fighter. Doesn't work too bad. But check out the Star Wars mod for Freespace 2 Open; that is a far more modern game.

Except the chances of it being finshed are..nil.

No disrespect to my fellow FS2 SCP modders, but I've yet to see a TC finshed aside from Babylon.

...which rules? :P The Wing Commander TC back in the day had some pretty good progress too. A homeworld one is in the works, which I eagerly wait for.

Bah, I've been out of FS2 for a while, comes out of getting SH3 and being in Shitvia. The main problem is that at heart, too many people like Kazan(correct spelling?) and not enough Bobbau's.

I just hope I can run it, looks awesome though.

I liked Galactic Battlegrounds, it was mindless fun.

I didn't like Force Commander, in no way was it ever going to be considered "Fun"

And this has Space Battles thrown in, I wonder what the Chances of an ST Addition Mod are.

The game looks great! I can just picture my computer shitting itself as soon as the CD goes into the drive, followed by the smell of burnt electronics.
YT300000 wrote:I'm sorry, but... how the fuck am I going to control all of those units at once? Unless they have the most amazing AI ever constructed, they're going to flop around like retards and this game will have to have equally retarded enemies to not be impossible.
Or individuals could be grouped into units like in Kohan, and Total War. So you control and give orders to groups of soldiers and vehicles which act in concert and stay together. Same for fighters and bombers. This makes it possible and quite easy to control large numbers of soldiers (up to about 4000 per side in Total War).

EDIT - I saw the second trailer, while hard to determine for sure, it appears that ground units do not work in groups, but non-capital spacecraft do. Also, the voice for the TIE fighters sucks. The guy sounds tired and bored, which would be perfect for resource gatherers and perhaps repair ships, but doesn't work for TIEs. Fighter pilots should sound energetic, over-confident, and gung-ho.

...if they're rebels. TIE Fighter pilots are nazi pawns, at least so in the movies. Why not make them stoic, deep-throated professionals?

So now ground combat is distinctly WC3 style while space fails to live up to HW2.

Interest how?

Well. There's plenty of reason to be negative. Space Combat doesn't seem as deep or interesting as Nexus or Homeworld or the like, and Ground Combat doesn't seem as exciting as Rise of Nations, or Dawn of War. It's looking damned mediocre, and relying on it's license to survive. That's not good.

I'm still probably going to buy it, even if the reviews are mediocre. And who knows, they might actually pull it off, I've never put much stock into appearences in screen shots and early trailers. In any event, I am bound by Vympel's Game Purchase Act , and thus required to buy such a game.

I'd still love to get you into trouble for finding flaws in every game under the sun, but this game deserves it.

Wait, what? How does a game that has not been released yet and doesn't even have its technical requirements online yet deserved to be picked apart?

LOOK at it. Imagine it wasn't SW for a moment.

Imagine a bunch of troops moving around, with heroes units leading them and reinforcments coming down via dropships.

What does that remind you off?

Now lets look at space, ships go around, shoot abit, starfighters mingle...in 2D  and shoot little torpedoes that when they hit cause a tiny not wowing explosion.

Now lets compare this part to HW2.

Where the HELL does this game come out on top?
