It's just the guy's artwork. Which is good because I'd to have something that wanky in SW canon.

I remember this. The crew was immortal through the power of cloning. It was supposed to be Palpy's instrument from which to conquer other galaxies. It certainly isn't beyond the Empire. The DS II is rather a tad bit larger than it.

It isn't beyond the Empire, but building another Death Star seems like a far better idea. When you're building such a colossally huge ship, it might as well be a sphere for optimal armor and shielding placement, since the only real threat is going to be hits by superlasers and similar massive yield weapons. I don't see any real gain to shaping the thing like a 'conventional' warship, I doubt it would gain any maneuverability advantage, perhaps it would gain in speed, but it doesn't need either of those things in any case.

It might make sense if there were going to be lots of them, but I don't think there was. If someone would check the website, they could confirm how many there were. But frankly, I'd prefer the Death Star.

At least the Death Star isn't pretending to be a war ship. It's come to accept the fact that it's a planetoid-sized space station and it plays the role quite nicely. I think that a 260 km long war ship would likely collapse into a spherical form (of rubble) in any case.

I believe the Imperium Wankdestroyer was designed when most people still accepted the DS2's diameter at 160km.

Ah, in that case, it needs to be killed with fire.

Good point. But isn't the DS and the Executor supposed to do that anyway? I haven't read Mike's engineering article in awhile.

Also, the Death Star is a starship, despite what Obi Wan says. To quote Darth Wong:
Mike Wong wrote: Contrary to popular belief (and Obi-Wan Kenobi's statement to the contrary), the Death Star is actually a starship rather than a battle station. Remember that a battle station is, by definition, stationary, while the Death Star was able to easily traverse many tens of thousands of light years in a matter of hours, under its own power.
The stress on the Death Star when travelling at the speed it was in ANH is 300,000 times the yield strength of sructural steel, which Mike says is very conservative. So I have a feeling that thing could fly and survive.

EDIT: And it is here that I realise that there was no reason for me to have said any of this.

The ship IS wank:

+http://www.wolfsshipyard.mystarship.com ... enres.html
Imperium Class Ultra Star Destroyer The embodiment of Palpatine's plans for extra-galactic conquest, the Imperium would have been as powerful as a Death Star, but much more mobile.
There was also this ship:
Tarkin Class Super Star Destroyer by Crix Dorius, based on an original design by Daniel Haughton. Dorius' version is 52,500 meters in length, twelve rotatable superlasers. Daniel's original version had a grav-shock projector to shatter planets, as well as several embarked assault cruisers for planetary occupation.

On one hand, this is simple overkill. On the other, maybe they need a huge power source to travel intergalactic distances in a reasonable amount of time. It looks like this ship is meant to transport a fleet of Star Destroyers to another galaxy. That is the only justification for building this size ship. Of course it would be better and easier to make it a sphere, just an engine, controls and a bunch of hangars.
For the glory of Gondor, I sack this here concession stand!

Am I alone here when I say considering the huge fuel requirements the ICS gives for the Venator's reactor, a Giant-Ass Ship would be perfect for holding enough fuel to get to a nearby Galaxy, drop off some infrastructure, and then come back?

Of course, you could do that with something much, much smaller, so whoever made this obviously has a host of problems to work out with Freud.

I don't know if that's true or not. But I do know that as originally designed and labeled the length was given at over 500km!

That sounds like a job for a.... merchant ship.

Doesnt it seem over kill. After all nothing in the galaxy can kill the Eclips in an up and up fight.

I could only see it as a ship built because Palpy can not because it would be of any use.

What kind of person calls a ship The Ultra?

Assuming that SW uses the convention of naming the class of ships after the first one built.

That thing is dripping in wank. Considering how fast Hyperdrive is, inter-galactic travel would take days or perhaps a week or so. So it would be more a matter of fuel but not in such drastic volume as that jiz-job.

A standard fleet with fleet tankers would be all that is needed to 'bridge' the galaxies, not some horrendous uber ship.

Well there is that moronic belief that the Executor is in fact a "Super" class Star Destroyer

Pretty much reduced to 'slang' now, though.

I've said it before and I've said it again everytime this 'Ship' is brought up... It's a nifty and worth while concept... but horribly executed in the vessel.
