HL2:Starship Antlion or Make your Computer scream

Post by Mr Bean »

Like Starship troopers? Want to see what it would acutal be like? Got Half Life 2?

Got a rig that can run the game well?
We have a singleplayer Mod for you
Fileplanet wrote: Half-Life 2 - Antlion Deuce [Single-Player] Description
Following the events of Antlion Troopers, you again play a young combine soldier. Due to you exemplary performance in the first antlion encounter the Combine Advisors have started you on a path to become a commander. They have placed you under the care of Commander Vesque to train in the abilities needed to be a proper commander. Your first mission as a trainee is to provide relief support to an outpost somewhere in the Death Valley desert. The antlions there have been quite agitative and the defensive machinery has been failing. Without operational thumpers the base is slated to quickly fall to the whim of the antlion mobs.
The Fileplant Link

I've downloaded and played it.
Have yet to make it all the way through because it quickly gets insane right from the start and goes even more nuts from there.
And when I say nuts I me completly INSANE.
The first wave alone by my count is between a three hundred to five fifty antlions that are poping up in grounds of five to fifteen every six seconds or so. Plus turrets and gernades.
The second round features between five hundred to just shy of a thousand antlions all over the 2#$@$ place. If you want your computer to screen then spin in place as over twenty combine troopers fight it out with over eighty antlions at a time.
You get progressivley more troops with which to play. Your first twenty expanded to thirty if you keep them alive plus stationary defenses and airsupport are aviable...
If you live long enough that is.

I recall playing this mod when hl2 first came out, basically the only way to win was to jump the wall with a turret and run beyond the antlion respawn point :D

Thats the OLD Antlion Wars, This is the BRAND NEW version with tons of goodies and explosions.

Oh and I have beat it as of about five minutes ago.
Just want to toss in the fact there are Know Bugs

KNOW BUGS
When coming in for the dropship landing it is possible for your transport to get hung up. The only way around this is to chose newgame and relaunch, it is rare but it can happen

Second know bug. Sometimes your commander(Who you must keep alive) can get hung up in the final part(He will stand directly infront of all your turrets and troops) You can order him to saftey by aiming at him, hitting B then hitting N to move him.

My Antlion-killing skills are weak. :( I was unable to complete the mod without spawning at least twenty additional Combine Soldiers. Really liked the included squad command system, and the choice of music ("Klendathu Drop") for the opening.

Such ridiculous quantities of lions must really suck up system resouces, no? I can't imagine having that many on screen. My comp can run the game pretty well, with some lag in certain areas/points, but that seems over the top!.

Fortunately, the mod includes both High and Low-Quality versions, the latter with far fewer Antlions running about, and consequently is much kinder on your system.
