More precisely, control over my beliefs to the extent that doubting does not arise. That way, the possibility of others merely being duped is not available to me. The reason for this answer is that this scenario is not framed in objective terms--it is not a criterion by which an ideal rational observer would decide the issue, but a personalized "you" encountering "God." Necessarily, subjective judgements enters the equation, and on the personal level, the power to override mental states renders all possible demonstrations irrelevant.Surlethe wrote:Ah; so control over the belief of others is one of your criterion for determining divinity. False gods: and how could God proof he really is God?

By the criterion, I'd imagine that many parents could claim to be God. However, I don't think that was his point.
I think his point was that if there was a God that wanted us to believe, he wouldn't have to really convince us if he were all-powerfull. His power would be enough to force belief, and our acceptance of whatever evidence he provided wouldn't be necessary for the state of belief to be achieved.

Oh ye of little faith.wautd wrote:I'm not a very religious person myself. There may be a God/Creator and there may be not. And if there was one, I'd very much doubt why he would bother to show himself here anyway.

Does the water to wine incident count? That was one huge piss up. Had to get off duty soldiers to do bouncer work, and we could still hardly stop people beleiving, from the tap no less.Kuroneko wrote:If God wants one's recognition to the extent as to actually set out to prove it personally, then surely God can force belief regardless whether or not one wants to accept it or not, rendering proof irrelevant.
Next morning was a wine to water miricle though, mass hangovers... oh crap, the hangovers...
And Lo, I turned water to wine, and beer and whiskey and the people cried
"Wow, you could make a killing as a publican."
And thy Lord said
"To hell with being a carpenter in a recession, its a boozers life for me!".
And the Lord sayth unto you "Stop bloody praying to me, I dont want to hear about your problems, arsehole!"
