Picked up the game yesterday, made a Necromancer, and trying to decide on what to make his secondary profession, I'm thinking Ranger for the beastie taming and arrow melee.

Does anyone have suggestions?

N/R I see a fair bit, with N/W and N/Mo close behind. But really, there's no set superior choice, it's entirely dependant on your own playstyle.

Got the game from my friend at a bargain of $20 CDN. He got tired of it after a few months. He has a level 20 character... probably two or three of them. I'm starting a new character though, playing Mesmer class, probably going to do Mesmer/Monk and concentrate on Fast Casting.

Any tips on improving the game's performance? Lowering the settings doesn't help much, and when I use autodetect the settings are set to high textures and medium shadows. I think my processor is bottlenecking, I have 256 RDRAM, P4 1.3, Radeon 9500. If I can't improve the performance, I won't be able to play. The game starts, but as you walk every few meters there is a huge lag and the hard drive goes crazy.

How do I join the SD.net guild?

That's probably just GW downloading all its resources. Give it a few minutes.

And just post your char name here.

Okay I will try it, but the lag happens while I am walking, not while it is on the loading screen. If this is the vaunted "dynamic content download", I'm not too impressed. I only have a 5400 RPM HD and a large page file though, so it might be my fault. I am defragmenting my hard drive, it is 17% fragmented, that might help.

Aluria Windwalker. Yes, I play girls in RPG's. No offense to guys, but I would rather look at a girl's ass rather than a man's for hundreds of hours .

I am trying to figure out what the hell causes my memory to evaporate after an hour on GW. I've removed every unnecessary program through CTL-Alt-Del and scandisked and defragged my harddrives but it still loses memory after an hour.

Maybe its bad programming causing memory leaks. How much memory do you have? Get cyberrat (I think that's what its called) or powerstrip, you can set the minimum memory that you want before they clear the memory. Maybe a bigger pagefile, or what really helps is set higher priority to programs and not background services.

I have 1GB of PC2100 RAM.

Where can I find cyberrat or powerstrip?

I soloed it (with henchies). Crazy. A smite monk would rule it, but alas, I had no points in smite at the time.

Try here.

The game lags for me, but I have a P4 1.3 and 192 MB RDRAM (PC800) and Radeon 9500. I'm getting a wireless router to try on my laptop, maybe the video card isn't as good but it should at least be able to run it without massive lag.

My Mesmer is quite sexy now, with her veil covering her face and green getup. Sexier than the elementalist -- don't need to show a ton of skin to look good. Know where I can get the higher level mesmer items, and does anybody have any mesmer items to give me, particularly a maxed out armor? I've saved 4 silver dyes, almost enough to dye a whole set of armor.

Crystal Desert is indeed quite difficult... hopefully I can get my comp running well enough to play within the next few days and I can help you out.

I still don't have Temple of the Ages. The area with Galrath isn't too obscenely difficult IIRC, it's mostly the trip there that's the problem. I wtfblitzed down there during beta and he wasn't too hard, I just couldn't take him because of all the death penalty I'd accrued en route.

Well I figured out why my wireless connection was messing up. Anybody who experiences disconnects every now and then (making gaming impossible) on a wireless network check +http://www.overclockers.com/tips1190/ out. You don't even need to use the program. You just need to disable windows zero point service in services.msc, but the program does it automatically for you. More info +http://forums.techguy.org/history/t-379051.html . If you don't use a wireless, obviously don't waste your time checking the links.

Anybody going to be online tonight from the clan who can invite me... er guild. I want a frickin cape ;-)

I just got the game yesterday. Made a N/E, named Neryn the Lirach. Currently lvl 8 in Seared. Any chance I could get in? I'm GMT -6 (or -4), whichever is Ohio.
