I wouldn't mind being in it, actually. Welsh Wizard, Dylan L. Richards. Think of me as James T. Kirk. But with magic.
What is Project Zohar?

Here's to a certain mostly harmless nutcase.

Here is the "preview/trailer" of the story.

It has been eighteen months since the Battle of Hogwarts. Voldemort, after having suffered a major defeat, has retreated to Eastern Europe. In the wake of his retreat, wizarding Britain lays in ruin. Daigon Alley and Hogsmeade have been largely reduced rubble. Voldemort’s last attack in Britain cost him most of his inner circle and nearly all of his Dementor force, when he launched a massive assault on the Ministry of Magic in an attempt to obtain several experimental devices being developed by the Unspeakables. Now the war weary wizards and witches of Britain try to pick up the pieces of their lives and hope that peace will soon come back to their war torn land. While the people of Britain try to regain their lives, Voldemort has enlisted the aid of many wizard anarchist groups, the pureblood clans of Asia, the convicts of several wizard prisons, large mercenary armies of dwarfs and goblins and a select few mercenary mages, including the infamous Matteus Sanicus, the only man brazen enough to kill a current Secretary of Magic. The US Department of Magic’s Auror Force is stretched to the breaking point as nearly everyone with a wand and a grudge has taken up arms against the US DoM. The US Department of Magic, in an attempt to quell the attacks has declared martial law and a draft of many Non-Mag born wizards and witches, bringing them into the Auror Force. All across the globe, conflicts are flaring up as one homicidal maniac leads his forces against those that would stand against him.

Ok, while most of you may think I am stupid for doing this, I have decided to create two large, major forces in this story. The bad guys are now going to be the Brotherhood of Nod. And the good guys are know the GDI. The names may change in the future, but for now, that is what I am calling them. And in this story, there will by many more wizards and witches. Basicly, since the world is about 6 billion, I am making there be nearly a billion witches, wizards and other magical humans of different names, out there. There will be many wizard cities, and even a couple of entire nations that are all magic. So, here is the prologue of my Fanfic. The title is currently the Wizarding World War. And yes, this is a AU fanfic. That means all you Canon people that whine since it doesn’t jive with canon can suck it.

WIZARDING TIMES

ATTACKS ON NON-MAGS ESCALATE! WAR CONTINUES TO GROW!

Yesterday marked the fifth attack on Non-Mags this month alone. Yesterday, at 1:06 PM Pacific Standard Time, a large explosion rocked downtown Sacramento, capital of California. 30 Non-Mags were killed and another 50 wounded. The explosion occurred in the Caesar Chavez Park. Thankfully, Obliviators from the Auror Regional Headquarters were on the scene in moments, working fast to convince the Non-Mags that they had suffered a simple terrorist attack. Which is true, in a sense. The attack was perpetrated by members of the wizard extremist group known as the Brotherhood of Nod. For those who are not well versed in the history of wizard extremist groups, the Brotherhood of Nod has existed since the time of the Roman Empire and is a major player behind the scenes in much of the wizarding world. Their agenda is much the same as many of the extremist groups that have sided with the Dark Lord. In response to the attack, many of the US DoM sub departments have been put on high alert and the threat level has been upgraded from Yellow to Red. While there have been very few attack on wizards, it is only a matter of time before those too increase as the war continues to grow.

*******

NOD AND THE DARK LORD ARE TOGETHER!

Tuesday afternoon, the International Confederation of Wizards held a press conference to address the rumors that the Brotherhood of Nod and the Dark Lord have joined forces. According to the ICW, yes, the Dark Lord and Nod have joined forces. This boosts to his ranks would replace all of his forces currently lost and still give him a good new chunk of forces.

*******

THE ICW EXPANDS IT PEACEKEEPING FORCE

Fighting erupted in Egypt yesterday as forces of the Brotherhood of Nod, along with Death Eaters and rebel forces stormed and captured the wizarding city of Heka. In response, the International Confederation of Wizards voted to expand its peacekeeping Auror force and to dispatch a number of their current Aurors to assist the government forces attempting to reclaim the city. During the fighting, our own field reporter, Peter Clapton, who was in Heka to observe a Quidditch match, witnessed the fighting. He was able to send this message on a special field correspondent parchment which instantly sends what is being written to a reciever parchment.

Code: Select all

this is clapton, i have observed heavy fighting. im held up with a few aurors in a two story bulding, nod troops are killing everything in their path. the aurors are trying to keep us safe, and oh god, their at the door

That was the last message we received from Pete Clapton. Our hopes are with Petey.

*******

THE ICW CALLS FOR AMERICAN COMBAT WIZARDS TO MOBILIZE

The ICW has called for the 1st Magical Assualt Detachment to send three of their platoons to join their growing multinational peacekeeping force, now known as the Global Defense Initiative. The GDI is being formed to combat the ever increasing threats from Nod and the Dark Lord. The GDI is currently consists of nearly ten thousand Aurors and Combat Wizard from many of the ICW member nations. However, current estimates put Nod and the Dark Lords forces at nearly half a million wands.

*******

SANICUS NOW THE DARK KNIGHT!

Matteus Sanicus, the most infamous wizard criminal in the United States, has joined the Dark Lord. During a recent attack, Sanicus was seen in the company of the Dark Lord himself. The Dark Lord himself, while taunting the Aurors that were valiantly holding there own against his Death Eaters, proclaimed Sanicus as his darkest knight. Sanicus is well known as a mercenary mage and the assassin of Secretary of Magic Billious Adar in 1989.

*******

SANICUS LEADS ASSUALT ON ALTERRA

Sanicus was seen leading Nod troops in the assault on the capital of Atlantis, Alterra. The capital of the magical country is still besieged and it appears that it will take force of the GDI to expel this threat. Already the GDI is mobilizing its forces to combat this latest aggression. Though what can be done is still unclear considering the siege of Heka, Egypt has yet to be lifted. With more and more attacks on the freedom loving wizards of this world, it seems the silver lining on this cloud is that the attacks on Non-Mags has ceased. Whether this trend holds still remains to be seen.

And here it is. Oh, of course I dont own any of this, except for Winters and uh, my ideas for weapons, except for the ones that come from consequences. And I dont own the name of the Weasley business. That is owned by someone on Fanfiction.net.

The quartet of MH-60K helicopters flew low to the ground. The sky was a black clouded blanket over the land. In the distance, the fires of the war for Atlantis burned, lighting the sky. The helicopters silently flew through the air. They were getting closer and closer to Alterra. In the back of the lead MH-60, Captain Mike Winters sat, with his AK-01 rifle pointed, barrel down, at the floor. The AK-01 was not related to the Kalashnikov series of rifles. It was in reality an invention by a pair of redheads from Britain. Fred and George Weasley, of Weasley Wizard Warbangers, were the inventors of the Avada Kedavra-01 rifle. This weapon fired the killing curse up to five hundred meters. It was built into the shape of a M-4. Winters gazed out the back of the chopper as it soared over the ground. It had been a long time since he had bled to defend Hogwarts. While many had held hope that the war would end soon at the battle, alas, it was not to be. Voldemort escaped, somehow attained the Brotherhood of Nod as his support base and started a whole new war. The higher-ups were already calling this the Wizarding World War. In a way it was appropriate. It was a world wide wizarding war. And it was a multi-national group he was leading into combat this night.

One of the crew chiefs, manning one of the door guns, leaned over to Winters and shouted into his ear. While the helicopter may have been silenced to all those outside of it, inside it was still just as noisy. “CAPTAIN, THREE MINUTES TO THE DZ!”

Winters nodded and turned back to his men. Soon the red light came on, alerting his men to get ready. The men checked their packs and rifles. When the green light also flicked on, blazing next to the red light, they got ready to jump out of the craft. The craft dropped to a few feet off the ground, in the middle of a clearing and slowly continued forward. The red light went out, leaving only the green and the men started to exit the chopper. Winters was the last man out, and the chopper sharply pulled up and away. When he pulled himself up off the ground his men were already up, moving towards the woods, and casting disillusionment charms on themselves. Winters did the same and met with his chalk in the woods. The other chalks had other objectives and were moving to accomplish them. He did a quick check of his men, made sure everyone was there, and then signaled for them to move out. As he began to move out, Winters could hear the sounds of explosions in the distance. As he moved forward, he reviewed the mission plan in his head.

T-5 Hours to H HOUR

*******

“Ok, Chalk 1, you mission is to hook up with members of the left-overs of the Atlantean Auror Force. Once you hook up with them, move into Alterra and disrupt the Nodis‘ operation until the main invasion launches. After that, you‘re main mission is to hunt down and eliminate Sanicus. Intel tells us that he is the leader of this invasion. And to you Americans on the team, remember, he is a stain on your country’s honor. Good hunting.”

*******

WIZARD WIRELESS NETWORK

“WARTIME NEWS! We take you, live, to one of our combat correspondent Tim Fulton, currently attached to the 3rd Magical Mechanized Infantry Regiment. Tim, can you tell us what’s been happening since you left a week ago?”

The sound of vehicles can be heard in the background and explosions are heard in the distances. “Well, myself and nearly thirty other reporters were giving a briefing. After the briefing, where they explained what we were allowed to say and report, we were given our gear. I am currently wearing a set of muggle or Non-Mag as some of the Americans call them, Battle Dress Uniform, basically a muggle attempt at a disillusionment charm. I’m also wearing a dragon hide/ muggle protective vest. After being given our gear, I was sent out to the wilderness of Atlantis were I was placed with a group of muggle combat trained wizard, manning a muggle fighting vehicle. The mood out here is one of anticipation. This will be the first time where the GDI has the chance to attack the forces of the Brotherhood of Nod.”

“Tim, can you give us an idea of how the situation is now?”

“Well, we can see the firings burning from the cities at night. We hear explosions all day. Right now, it is around 3 am local time or 0300 X-RAY time. Hold on. Ok, I am being told that its time for me to sign off. This is Tim Fulton, attached to third platoon, Dragon Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Magical Mechanized Infantry Regiment, signing off.”

*******

Winters gazed through his military specification omnioculars. He could see a group of five Nod shock troopers standing with a pair of Atlantean Fire-eater dragons. They had one trooper up on the top of the building, scanning the sky with a pair of omni oculars. Winters checked his watch. 20 minutes until the attack began. Winters waved his two team members with anti-tank rockets forward. Dylan L. Richards, a Welsh Auror that had been through the ComWiz combat school, stepped forward, toting a AT-4. For some reason, Richards liked to go hand to hand and always seemed to be tearing his shirt before fighting. Another soldier stepped forward, Neville Longbottom. Longbottom had left Britain and moved to Canada to join their Auror Force, transferred to their ComWiz unit and was then picked to be sent out to the GDI. When Winters first met Longbottom, the boy was as much a menace to himself as he was to the enemy in a fight. But through hard work, training and determination the likes of which Winters had seen in few others he was now one of the best Canadian ComWiz in the GDI. Longbottom and Richards shouldered their AT-4s and waited for Winters to give the signal. Winters raised his rifle and sighted in on the Nod troop on the roof. The rest of the squad picked their targets. Less than five minutes. Winters set the sights on the center mass of the trooper, breathed out, and pulled the trigger. A jet of green light shot from his rifle and the Nod trooper dropped. Richards and Longbottom fired. The rockets impacted and then the dragons were gone. The payload on those rockets were not high explosives, instead a specially created international range portkey, designed by Weasley Wizard Warbangers. The portkey would impact and attach to the target, via a sticky charm, and then it would activate, sending the target far away. Now that Winters thought about it, he didn’t really know where the target went, just that it went away. About 5000 miles directly above him the two dragons reappeared. The rest of the Nod troops were cut down in seconds. Winters signaled for his men to move. He quickly ran out to the bodies and lifted one up. He placed an explosive device under the corpse. He ran back to where his men had opened a hatch into the sewer system and jumped in. T-1 minute.

*******

Sergeant James Reynolds, British ComWiz, sat behind the wheel of the HMMWV. With him was his squad and Tim Fulton. The report was sitting in the back, writing in a notebook about what was happening. That book would be confiscated and edited before being returned, to make sure no secrets got out. A clock timer on his dashboard was counting down. When it reached thirty seconds, it started buzzing. Everyone quickly strapped themselves down. The timer reached zero and the buzzing stopped. They all felt a jerk and then their vehicle was sitting in a group of twenty others on road on the south of town. His vehicle was in the middle of the convoy. The vehicles engines started and they began moving into the city.

*******

Sanicus was just getting up when he heard shouts and explosions. He leapt out of bed and quickly dressed, grabbed his gear, and headed out of the door. He was strapping on his second wand holster when he walked into the command center. There was street map on the table and Nod troops kept running in and out, carrying notes.

“What’s happening?” Barked Sanicus. One of the senior members of the Brotherhood turned and addressed Sanicus.

“My Lord, the foul bloods have launched their assault.”

“This was to be expected. Get the dragons in the air and attacking them now. Move the dwarven battalion to the south quarter of the city and get them in the fight. And scatter the men in preparation for the next phase of the war. If they cannot get out of the city, have them go to ground and try to blend with the local people. And send for my personal guards.”

“Yes, my Lord, but there is one small problem.”

“What?” Hissed Sanicus.

“T-t-the dragons are no longer here. The men stationed with each of the wing pair are all dead, Killing curse.”

“Damn” Said Sanicus in a cold voice. “Very well, spread the word, we are abandoning the city.” As he finished saying this, six men in cloaks walked into the room and stood on either side of Sanicus.

*******

Reynolds’ HMMWV was currently sitting at the edge of the city, on the southern way out of town. There were only four roads out of town, and the other three were already road blocked. There was already patrols going around the edge of the city to make sure the city walls were intact and that the GDI spell specialists anti-apparition wards and anti-portkey wards were up and working. Only a GDI issue portkey, made with a certain spell developed by GDI researchers, would work now. Reynolds waved his wand and sand and dirt flew into bags and then stacked themselves into a barrier. Behind the sandbags, his HMMWV and another were parked, with enough room for people to crouch behind the bags.

*******

Sanicus stepped out of the command center. His men were with him. He concentrated and tried to apparate. When he couldn’t, he just smiled and nodded. Right out of the standard ComWiz playbook. Keep the bad guys in the city, keep them contained, and then eliminate them. Exactly as he would have done it. ‘But, if he was in charge,’ he thought to himself as he reached into his robe, ‘he would have made sure to put up an anti-portkey ward‘. He smiled and grabbed the portkey hidden in his battle robes. He expected the jerk at the navel and then to reappear in the Fortress of Nod. He was quite surprised when nothing happened. Sanicus looked around. ‘Well, they seem to have someone smart in charge.’ Sanicus turned to his men. “Lets get off the streets and change.”

They're actually quite ingenious really, considering how tough dragons are, it's a good way to deal with them.

Of course I pity where ever they turn up . . .

Very nice; kind of like the warp grenades from the Dahak trilogy.

Actually, I was inspired by the Asgard "go-away" beams from Stargate SG-1. The little part that Winters thought where he said he didnt know where they went was what I have always wondered about the Asgard beam.

Very cool fanfic! I like the way magic and muggle technology are combined. Exactly how much territory does Voldemort and Brotherhood of Nod control as compared to the rest of the wizarding world?

They mainly control pockets of land. There are two major wizarding countries, Atlantis, and another one I havent named yet. These are basicly island contintents. The Nod controls a good chunk of russia and has holdouts in most of Eastern Europe.

Just want to say I finished reading through this fic and love it.

I've looked for ages for a good Harry Potter + more realistic portrayal of modern weapons and technology fanfic. I've seen a couple, none were really very good. This one however IS very sweet.

D-Day +24

CHECKPOINT FOXTROT CHARLIE, manned by 3rd Squad, 2nd Platoon, Cerberus Company, 1st Military Police Battalion, 1st Magical Infantry Regiment. 2035 X-Ray Time

Sergeant Rob Patterson stood at his post. He watched as his corporal, the only one on their team who spoke Atlantean, waved the Atlantean car through. The Atlantis was the stranger of the two wizarding nations. It embraced all things muggle, from television and phones, to cars and sports. However, they modified everything muggle with magic to make it better. Atlantean cars were incredibly efficient, able to hold up to 30 people, but due to nearly all countries strict regulations against enchanting muggle devices, Atlantean cars were rare outside of Atlantis itself, but most ministries kept a few for official business. Patterson focused on the group of people walking towards him. There were thirteen of them, all wearing hooded cloaks with the hoods up, the normal fashion for Atlantis this time of year, with snow starting to fall. They reached the checkpoint and halted. The leader presented their IDs. The corporal who had checked the car took their IDs and checked the names against a checklist of wanted Nod officers. The corporal nodded and handed back the IDs. The group started to walk through when Patterson spoke up.

“Halt.” The Atlanteans just kept walking. Patterson mentally cursed his stupidity, Atlantees didn’t speak English. “Hui, no that’s not it. Hiu.” The Atlanteans stopped and muttered among themselves. “Brisco, Grant, Brink, cover them. Spindler, you and me, we check faces.”

Patterson and Corporal Spindler walked forward, pistols and wands at the ready. One by one they pulled back the food and checked the face, making sure it wasn’t someone who was to be detained. So far, no one. He reached halfway down the line. He pulled back the hood and there was the face of Sanicus.

“Hey, how you doing? Hmm?” He winked as he brought up a small sub machine gun and fired into Patterson’s stomach. The rest of Sanicus personal guard opened fire and cut down the four others soldiers. His guards quickly transfigured all the corpses to bones and tossed them in an alley. They donned their cloaks once again and moved out.

*******

Three and a half kilometers north of Aargosia
GDI Infantry Patrol

The GDI trooper stepped quietly through the nighttime forest. He was walking point. So far they hadn’t so much as seen a Nod trooper. He was careful where he placed his feet. Though they had all cast silencing charms on their gear and feet to keep the sound they would emit to a minimum, it paid to be careful. He crept forward to a large pile of cut logs. He peeked around, and saw no one. He turned back to the rest of his patrol and waved them forward. There was another pile of logs twenty feet away. His fellow soldier reached him and crouched behind the logs. He felt a tap on his shoulder and dashed forward towards the logs. A burst of machine gun fire ripped across the forest. The trooper felt a sharp pain in his throat as a 7.62x54mm round ripped through his windpipe, blowing out his throat. As he went down, two more rounds hit him, twice in the chest.

“OH SHIT!” Screamed Richards, as he crouched behind the pile of logs. Twenty meters to the north a line of muzzle blasts appeared in the dark forest, tracers stabbing out from the darkness. “SHIT! NEV GOT HIT!” Richards could see Neville still moving, one of his hands at his throat as he started to drowned in his own blood. The two AK-01s, two M-249Rs and six M-4s of 1st Squad of 3rd Platoon, E Co., 2nd Battalion, which was formerly Chalk One, poked over the pile of logs and fired at the muzzle blasts.

“MEDIC! Nev just hang on, man, we’re going get you out buddy.” Richards started to move out of cover to get to Neville.

One of the squad members grabbed his two wands and started firing explosive hexs at the muzzle fire.

Sergeant Martin, lowered his rifle, grabbed him and held him back. Martin shouted, “HOLD IT RICH. COVERING FIRE!” Martin pulled his wand and cast a summoning charm on Neville, pulling him back behind cover.

“FALL BACK!” Shouted Winters from the middle of the line.

Martin and Richards grabbed the straps on the back of Neville Longbottom’s vest and hauled his flailing body back away from the guns of the enemy.

Once they had gotten twenty meters, they took cover behind another set of logs. The squad’s medic, Grace Prycin, ran up. Martin and Richards held down Neville to keep him from flailing. Neville‘s eyes were wide and gurgling sounds could be heard from his throat which was squirting blood out. She opened a small packet of a powdered potion and sprinkled it on the wounds. The potion would kill infection and stop bleeding for a small time. She waved her wand, cleared Neville’s lungs of blood and closed the wounds. Not a great job, but it would keep him alive long enough to be moved back to safety and from there to an aid station. She took a syrette of morphine and jammed it into Neville’s hip. As he felt the morphine flow through him, he calmed down.

“Ok, Sergeant, Richards, pick him up and lets go.” Said Prycin.

While Prycin was tending Neville, Winters was speaking to Command through the radio on his back.

“Easy CP, Easy CP, this is 1st platoon. We have a critical WIA, need an aide jeep at Dragon White’s location. Over. We ready to move again?”

“Yes sir!

The Martin and Richards grabbed the wounded man and moved back towards the line. It was a black night and the men ran to what they hoped was Dragon White‘s location. They heard someone shouting, “EASY, STRAIGHT IN!” They reached a small farm that was being used as an outpost. The GDI troopers there were outside waiting to repulse an attack by Nod if they had followed 1st squad. Martin and Richards hauled Neville in and laid him on a table in the middle of the farm house. Prycin shoved Martin out of the way and went to work on Neville. The temporary closing spell had already come undone and the wounds were starting to open up again. She took a bandage and applied it to the throat wound. She pulled a potion off her vest, the vial charmed to be unbreakable, pulled off the cap with her teeth and poured the blood replenishing potion down his throat. She heard the jeep arrive outside. Another medic and the driver ran in, carrying a stretcher. Neville was moved onto it and was soon out on the jeep heading to Aargosia, a small town three kilometers back that had an aid station. Prycin sat on the table and stared at her hands. Her hands were covered in Neville’s blood. She pulled out a cloth wiped her hands clean of his blood. Richards just stared off into space. He and Neville had been friends since their time on the Canadian Auror Force. They had been best mates. And he had been less than two feet away while he watched his friend, with an open throat, and blood pouring out, flail on the ground, in pain. Winters walked farther into the barn, where a radio post had been set up. He nodded to the specialist at the radio post. “Get me a line to Battalion command circuit.” He waited as the man flicked a few switches and then handed him a receiver. “Battalion CP, this is 1st platoon, E Company. We have encountered stiff resistance 70 meters north of Dragon White’s location…No idea if it is their main line or just an OP…Enemy strength is unknown, several MGs and assault rifles…Could be Vamps or dwarven forces…No idea on that, couldn’t see any of them…Yes, sir, we are at Dragon White’s location…Do you want us to go out again Sir? Yes, sir, we’ll pull back to Aargosia. 1st Platoon, out.”

Winters turned and headed back towards the entrance to the barn. His people were sitting clustered in one corner. Sergeant Martin walked up to him. “Whats the word Lieutenant?” Due to the massive disparity in rank systems and that some of the Combat Wizard detachments were largely officers from some countries, GDI Command had decided to assign rank based on job. A platoon leader would be a lieutenant even if he had been a major in his home unit. And so, Winters had been bumped down to Lieutenant so that he could lead this platoon. It was an even bigger mess with logistics. With so many different countries contributing, it was hard to equip with all the troops with common gear. As such, most of the Aurors that had been brought into the GDI as infantry were given the AK-01, since it required no ammunition. Most of the Combat Wizards had brought their own countries weapons. Vehicles were nearly all from the United States. There were still some throwbacks, including some old UH-1s, and a plethora of jeeps from the muggle WWII. Winters turned to Martin.

“Command is pulling us back to Aargosia. I guess we will find out what happens next there.”

Sanicus stood in what was currently the nerve center for the NOD forces on Atlantis. Standing on to his right were Brothers Cale, Simmins and Darius. To his left stood Coven Leader Marcus, Dwarven Mercenary Balon the Conquer, and Death Eater Pettigrew. Though Sanicus was the top dog of Voldemort‘s forces, Pettigrew was here as his personal eyes and ears, letting him know the full truth of what was happening here.

Sanicus finished reading the papers and handed them back to the aide that had delivered them.

“Good, and have the 23rd Russian close to within two kilometers of Aargosia. And begin bombardment of the town. Use our muggle artillery pieces.”
