Wedge: unkown (?) experience as a child and young man but undoubtedly had a background in piloting before becoming a starfighter pilot. Countless sorties and ridiculous amounts of kills. Really only stopped progressing because he was finally told to accept some fucking rank and push paper. Starfighters of Adumar, he defeated Turr Phennir, a very skilled Imperial pilot flying in a TIE Defender (Antilles was in the X-Wing). Oh, same book he, Tycho Celchu, Wes Janson and Derek "Hobbie" Klivian took on a few dozen Y-Wing equivalent Adumari fighters in the same aircraft and lived to tell the tale.

As good as any of them got, we know Wedge's skills were honed 2-D-max. He flew and flew and vaped countless TIE's for years on end and hell, even in old age in NJO he can fly toe-to-toe with Yuuzhan Vong pilots in their formidable coralskippers, dispelling any notiong that an X-Wing's superiority over typical TIE's belies his skill.

Wedge has deffinatly got the best flying skills but Anakin or Luke are probably better pilots overall when you take precog into accoun.

I wouldn't offer up precog as the be all to end all. Fact is that different weapon systems have different advantages and disadvantages, which their operators will use against each other to the max extent possible. By Luke's and Wedge's time X-Wings and TIE Fighters have seen plenty of face to face action, and both sides know what works. A well trained and experienced fighter pilot is going to be able to predict to a very reasonable degree of accuracy what the other side is going to do, and vice versa. All things being equal, the one who executes best comes home alive.

Solo took out Anakin/Vader indirectly if not on purpose.
Luke got hit by Anakin/Vader and would be dead if not for Solo.
Wedge got hit by Vader/Anakin and would be toasty oats if Luke didn't tell him to get clear.
Anakin/Vader got every one but Solo.

Heads up... You gotta give it to Solo.

Actuall ability.. I think Anakin/Vader over, what, almost 40 years of piloting and flying AND having the Force as his ally would have to get the nod. Wedge on shear experiance would be next. Followed by Han and lastly Luke... DUDE! He got shot down by an AT-AT!!!

LOL, based on what you're saying about Luke, I'd put Stele over him! (This is about pilots, after all.)

In the speed and maneuverability departments, the Missile Boat was in-game (its only appearance) roughly equivalent to an A-Wing. Then again, seeing as how Wedge could down Turr Phennir's Defender with a single quad laser blast, the Missile Boat was only superwank for its ammo capacity - I think Maarek Stele was more than good enough to actually outmaneuver Home One long enough, thus my submission of his name.

(Wikipedia's entry for the production TIE Advanced "Avenger" declares that Maarek Stele was promoted to general in the 181st Imperial Fighter Group and kept a TIE Avenger even after the switch to Defenders, reportedly being last seen patrolling Imperial borders just prior to the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. Can anyone confirm this?)
