Heh, he told you to "grow up". If you keep up the assault, it'll usually be followed in the next couple posts by him snorting about how ignorant you are. Irony.

Others have already given advice/comments/ammo, but if they still insist on using the layman's terms of theory in place of the scientific, try asking them the definitions of work, energy, and power.
I find the comparsion that scientists somehow undemocratically determining that evolution is right or wrong very, very funny. The scientists are just the bloody messengers in this case, if you don't like evolution being true, then start bitching to your fucking God.

The idea that scientists should base their conclusions upon popularity rather than scientific methods is so profoundly stupid that anyone seriously proposing it should be neutered to protect the gene pool.

You should take a look at what he just posted. I have no idea what to type. It's like, no matter what you type, or evidence you give....it's not real or it's not 'fact'. Remember. Using the dictionary can be a valid tactic in debate, but if he tries to abuse the dictionary and pick out the most obscure definitions of words (IE theory), and use them against you, instead of using the appropriate definitions, just show him the definition of Atheism.
AtheismL Godlessness; immorality.
Everyone here knows that's a bullshit definition. Atheism is not immorality, since you can be an Atheist and moral. Simply point out to him that the dictionary lists not only official definitions, but colloquial definitions. The dictionary can be wrong.

I notice he's also fond of saying that scientists said nothing about the world being "flat." In reality, it was mostly the uneducated and die-hard church advocates who thought that.
You can also point out that many scientists (Kepler, Copernicus, etc) fought against the "masses" of uneducated people who thought the earth was the centre of the universe. Prior to the developement of the scientific method, this was a widely held belief. Then again...science as we know it didn't exist or was at least in infancy. As well, the Church has has reigned supreme for hundreds of years. It wasn't wise to tell the truth.

Funny, but irrelevant. I've always assumed that, for fundies, it was their business to teach Creation at home, and let the schools teach Evolution. It sounds like the parents already have more than equal time to teach their version of events.wautd wrote:If fundies want to teach ID so bad in the classroom, why can't we teach evolution in church?
The fact that most parents are too lazy to attempt teaching their children anything (not just creationism, but everything else too) is frankly not the fault of the government nor should be rectified by the schools.
Disclaimer: I in no way am in support of the ID theory. I am simply pointing out that if the parents had an iota of desire to teach their kids ID, they could easily outmaneuver and outpace the school system, at least with their own children. There is no need to add it to the class room so that they can be lazy.

Is it laziness, or is it paranoia that their credibility will be undermined by the schools? The fact that most parents are too lazy to attempt teaching their children anything (not just creationism, but everything else too) is frankly not the fault of the government nor should be rectified by the schools.
Who thought up "Intelligent Design" anyway?
Honestly, they need a slap. Other than that: I had to deal with Creationism and Intelligent Design in Primary School ('twas compulsory). I thought it was bullshit then and it still doesn't smell any better now.
When has any Pro-Creationism movement ever been a good idea?
My opinion of the Creationist Story is this: A Really Popular Novel, nothing more.

Some guy named Behe. He was a Christian who apparently set out to prove evolution wrong because it was inconsistent with the Bible. Failing to realise a scientific theory stands and falls on the evidence of observations and experimentation, as opposed to having a flashy degree, he went to get a biology degree of some sorts. Obviously he learnt enough about biology to use the terms, however his Christian indoctrination still remains strong, hence his ID "theory" (which isn't really a theory at all).Dakarne wrote:Who thought up "Intelligent Design" anyway?

Another fun little argument to throw back at this asstard. If he insists on stating that scientists shouldn't be the only ones to decide what constitutes a valid scientific theory, then ask him if trained doctors and physicians shouldn't be the only ones who get to decide what constitutes a valid medical practice either. You probably won't change his mind, but it'll help convince other people how idiotic his arguments are.

I maintain that it is laziness. Most of these parents that believe in this were taught evolution when they went to school, and somehow they still believe in creation. I therefore submit that their parents actually taught them creationism, and their training outpaced the school.Uraniun235 wrote:Is it laziness, or is it paranoia that their credibility will be undermined by the schools? The fact that most parents are too lazy to attempt teaching their children anything (not just creationism, but everything else too) is frankly not the fault of the government nor should be rectified by the schools.
If these parents are so bloody set on teaching their kids this stuff, they should do like their parents and do it themselves.

Or you could ask him: "so as long as all scientific conclusions should be based on democracy and Google searches rather than expert study, can you explain the contradiction between the mathematical derivation of zero-point energy from quantum physics and Einsteinian relativity as it applies to astronomically observed universal expansion characteristics? I assume you can just Google it."General Zod wrote:Another fun little argument to throw back at this asstard. They were bluffing about knowledge they didn't have, and they slowly began to realize that it would catch up with them. Ranting about flaws in Darwin's methods while making it painfully obvious that they've never even read his work is a good example.mplsjocc wrote:That's retarded. Why even post anything in the first place if you're going to get scared of someone responding to it. Especially when they were so adament about their stance...
