CD problem
For some obscure reason, my brand new, DVDRom drive has "disappeared" from my drive listing.
Even more strange, when I checked my device manager, it listed the older model that was previously installed on my com....... what gives?

Anyone here knows how to install a brand new CD-ROM drive? The physical connection looks good, so, I'm assuming the computer just isn't picking up the hardware.

No....... Have to check on that...... However, that doesn't explain the DVDROM as its isn't USB at all.Captain tycho wrote:Er, if you're running XP, are you sure your Plug and Play drivers are intact?
I can't even boot from CDROM, because it can't find it.

Ah crap. My BIOS needs to be flashed, however, I can't seem to find a utility to do so. Can anyone help? Adflash and Uniflash both don't work. Uniflash in particular claims it can't detect my PCI drive, despite the fact that my com does allow me to use my USB mouse and keyboard.

Who manufactures your board? Usually they have some kind of autoflashing utility.PainRack wrote:Ah crap. My BIOS needs to be flashed, however, I can't seem to find a utility to do so. So what are you doing here? Making excuses? I didn't need a teacher to get me to where I am, I still don't. No one needs a teacher, though having courses for programming languages does help, but its not crucial.Dakarne wrote:

I wouldn't honestly know what to do in that regard, I've only been doing the course for a year... And I had an idiot teacher.
Apologies to all who have helped me understand stuff over the years, but your not teachers, only great friends

I understand that Darkarne is a spamming whore, and his oddities are quite clearly showing, regardless of how he claims he is fine. But do you really need to fuel the fire Tiger?

Painrack: is the software for the previous drive still loaded? Last time I had a problem like that, it was because there was a conflict of data.

VIA, motherboard model is VT 8235. I can't find any form of autoflashing utility online though.Akaramu Shinja wrote: Who manufactures your board? Usually they have some kind of autoflashing utility.
Yup. According to device manager that is. Although the USB drives are a write-off.Dartzap wrote:Painrack: is the software for the previous drive still loaded? Last time I had a problem like that, it was because there was a conflict of data.
