Christian dinosaur discussion...

Post by Magnetic »

I REALLY hate to give you all more fodder against Christians. Perhaps it is best to not lump all Christians into what I will post here, as I'm sure most would think it was completely stupid, . . . . . .such as I do.
dancedwithdolphins wrote:This is my personal thought on this topic: Scriptures say the earth was filled with evil and only Noah was found righteous. We see that God saved two and seven of everything. Interesting enough, Noah didnt have to save trees and plant life. I think that the angels that came down did things they were not suppose to do. They mated with women. And I believe it is quite possible that they had offspring with the animals. And that these dionosaurs and giants were threatening earth. Killing everything off, and consuming all the food supply.

(We know that satan had used this sort of trick before. In the garden of eden, satan disguised himself as a serpent. So if angels can appear as human, like the angels that came to Abraham, and they can appear as serpents, I think it is quite possible that is where dinos came from).

And the flood made them extinct, not an ice age.

But again, this is just one opinion.
Then, a forum administrator replies,
ACCM wrote:A new concept..... never thought of that one..... maybe this is why Isaiah says :Is 14:29 Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent's root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

Is 27:1 In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.

Which to me opens up another can of worms...... Referance to the 'unholy trinity' .

Yet....... this 'serpent' as seen as a ref. to Satan, is but one kind of a species
There is more interesting statements on the entire thread.

I hope this link is setup here appropriately as a 'broken link'.

By Gino, I cry at such ignorance. Really, I do. No, wait, that would be allergies.

If I understand this correctly, then Satan was disguised as a talking dinosaur . . . I knew there was something evil about that Barney . . . And, apparently, angels were coming to Earth and having sex with women and dinosaurs. And then God killed them with a flood and an enormous Godly sword.

I don't think a fifth grader could come up with a worse story than that.

There may be a grain of sanity in what he's saying. Apparently, the origin of giants myths (in greek mythology, for instance, or the Nephilim in the bible and the book of enoch) is from ancient people finding dinosaur bones.

Also, apparently, Seraphim are hinted at being serpentine.

This is just coincidental to his crap, though.

No, probably not sex with dinosaurs, but with (I guess) normal reptiles, which created dinosaurs, such as the same when with man, creating giants.

Reminds me of an absolute shit-head from school. During one physics lesson, he casually commented that the dinosaurs had escaped from hell (- ) and that humans hunted them to extinction, on God's instructions.

Every single person on the table then paused, looked at each other and burst out laughing. I swear, i was crying i was laughing that hard. And he just sat there with this blank look on his face like he had made a completely inoccuous comment about the weather. (Sighs.) Good times.

Wow. That's all I can say. Just... Wow.

I know I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face! In fact, probably every time I looked at him from then on I'd bust out laughing. That's just priceless. You cannot buy that kind of stupidity.

Abandoning all logic and scientific reasoning skills to irrational superstition doesn't impede a person's ability to take an IQ test. They're liable to have IQs ranging from 80 to 120, making them very average (people this ignorant of science are unlikely to pursue more scientifically-demanding careers where the IQ range starts at 100 and ranges up to 130.)

You can look at this handy chart, think of fundies you know and what they do for a living, and make your guesses from that.

The translation of "Nephilim" as "giants" is actually a mistake, the word actually means "tyrants". source

If this is true, it doesn't refer to a race of giants at all, but people with violent tendencies. (Giants aren't mentioned anywhere in the book of Genesis.)

Seriously, I can barely follow the logic in that post. So The Flood wasn't actually intended to wipe the wicked and sinful HUMANS off the face of the Earth. It was God's way of restoring the ecosystem because evil dinosaurs and giants were eating all the food. And these dinosaurs and giants are the offspring of naughty angels and who knows what.

On top of being bat-shit-insane, isn't that theory a little blasphemous?

1. Two and seven? Isn't it supposed to be just two?
2. Interesting enough, this guy mentions that Noah didn't bring all the flora along, so how the fuck does it all exist?
3. So angels like bestiality and rape. And omnipotent God doesn't even try to stop them.
4. I freakin' hate the phrase "I believe...". It equates theory, hypothesis, pure speculation and faith.
Oh hell that is so saved.

And they'd be tapdancing on your doorstep the next day, since the DSM-IV definition of 'delusion' specifically excludes that based on religion:
A false belief based on incorrect inference about external reality that is firmly sustained despite what almost everybody else believes and despite what constitutes incontrovertible and obvious proof or evidence to the contrary. The belief is not one ordinarily accepted by other members of the person's culture or subculture (e.g. it is not an article of religious faith).
Incidentally, it's not exactly hard to see how you've made so many posts in such a short time.

It's not so much a mistake as an influence from Deuteronomy, Joshua and the Book of Enoch where it says the Nephilim and their offspring (specifically the Anakim and Rephaim) were giants.
http://www.new-life.net/faq014.htm wrote: Nephilim is a Hebrew word that probably comes from the word "to fall." Therefore it means "ones who fall upon [others]." I am not really convinced by this, this is the description I got from here:
NEPHILIM

nef'-i-lim (nephilim): This word, translated "giants" in the King James Version, but retained in the Revised Version (British and American), is found in two passages of the Old Testament--one in Gen 6:4, relating to the antediluvians; the other in Nu 13:33, relating to the sons of Anak in Canaan. In the former place the Nephilim are not necessarily to be identified with the children said to be borne "the daughters of men" to "the sons of God" (Gen 6:2,4); indeed, they seem to be distinguished from the latter as upon the earth before this unholy commingling took place (see SONS OF GOD). But it is not easy to be certain as to the interpretation of this strange passage. In the second case they clearly represent men of gigantic stature, in comparison with whom the Israelites felt as if they were "grasshopers." This agrees with Gen 6:4, "the mighty men that were of old, the men of renow." Septuagint, therefore, was warranted in translating by gigantes.

I'm not finding any definitive authorities on the net regarding the Nephilim, but I was told by a theology/bible scholar guy that it does actually refer to the offspring of angels and humans (as covered in the book of Enoch; though it is not strictly canon, it is an example of hebrew folklore and an ancient interpretation of the text in Genesis. Other sources often neglect the contribution such "EU" can have) and they became the giants.

Isn't The Dark on a theology course? He could ask his lecturers, or give his opinion, I'd like to read it.
