Space Marine Dreadnought vs. AT-ST

Who wins? AT-ST is a scout walker and is quite fast (movement was restricted on Endor but we all know it could have done better).

AT-ST has nasty chin guns. It has nasty little foot spikes to cut wire and infantry in two.

However, Space Marine Dreadnought is an unholy terror which can mount multiple heavy weapons (like twin-linked lascannons) and can tear Space Marine Terminators apart in hand-to-hand as though they were nothing.

Also, the pilot inside is usually some SM of legendary status.

Dreadnought with twin lascannons can punch holes throught the AT-ST if need be.

Once its in HtH combat... Well, nothing stands up to a dreadnought

as if...NO-ONE can beat the Avatar of Khaela Mensha Khaine. Seriously though the Avatar can give a Dreadnought a serious run for it's money (average of almost two penetrating hits per turn against a Dreadnought, while the Dreadnought inflicts a little under 1 wound average per turn).

Invulnerable save gives it a 50/50 chance to save any damage caused... and if we go back to the older rules, heat based weapon no effect. Next.

And BTW the Avatar's save is 5+ which means it makes its save 1 out of 3 times, not 50/50. That's 4+.

And In 3e heat-based affects him like anythng else. Then again, in 3e the Avatar point cost is more even with a Dreadnought's (less, actually)

Whoops sorry your right, I hate 3e it took so much away from the game in the name of simplifying it. Suddenly everone moves the same distance... well until fleet of foot. things got standandised too much I prefered the old rules, which is one of the reasons I don't play 40k as much. (The others being too much money... and hard to transport to uni so my armies sit gathering dust...) but the Fluff is still there...

Yeah, WH40K really costs a lot. One Commander Farsight costs $40 bux and a Necron army boxed set cost $424! HTF do i get the cash? And, like you, said, it's hard to transport.

I can't speak about previous editions because I ahven't played them , though it seems fine to me.

The AT-ST is a scout vehicle, so upon ascertaining the composition and disposition of the SMD, it's crew would go into hide and call for something that could destroy the SMD with ease.
