Fighting Machines or Zombies

Post by Zor »

Out of nowere, you are picked by Q when he is fealling like being an asswhipe again. He will send to the Sci-Fi world of your choice and if don't chose he flips a coin. The worlds are...

1-A World exactly like that of the new War of the Worlds movie, but were Q has given the Aliens there Flu shots and disease won't ge them.
2-The World of Dawn of the Dead.

In both universes, you have twelve hours before the shit starts. If you survive the shit for twenty days in either universe, you are sent back to our universe (and if you were infected by the Zombie Virus in Dawn of the Dead but still alive at the end of twenty days, you are cured of it). If you die, your corpse (Zombified or not) stays there forever.

So, which world do you get sent to?

Zombies. Wait a few months and all the bitten victims come apart from decay. No embalming fluid makes for happy decomposers.

Zombies. Do they have several hundred foot tall war machines with shields and bridge collapsing heat beams? No, I thought not. With Zombies, find a "ZOMG terrorist biowe4pons!" guy with a fully stocked, sturdy bomb shelter and add a few guns, and your set.

Note, assuming you don't die you go home after twenty days, remember that.

Either one as long as you're not in either of them. :P

War of the Worlds 2005 version, because aliens are easier to hide from then zombies.

I think I'll go with Zombies on this one...

Hide out well equipped for a month or three and it should all blow over as the militaries start owning everything dead.

What kind of resources am I given? Am I set down in the alternate world without a dollar to my name? Is it an exact duplicate, right down to the money in my bank account? Or do I get a bit of fast cash to spend as I see fit in preparation for my coming ordeal?

But all else being equal, I'd take the zombies over the tripods.

Damn its in Canadian, hoof it across the board switch currancys and get myself loaded up with some weaponry, buy alot of Canned goods, water, camping supplies and I should have about two hours left. Drive around find a water-tower, climb up load up ammo, set up tent/tarp, load up the rifle and sight it in. set up my ammo and wait. As long as I can get everything done in twelve hours my little water-tower will be safe and secure height(Fourty feet plus. One good rifle with plenty of ammo and a backup pistol)

Not to mention I'm easily visable from the Air, if I can spare the time string up some flags for easy ID and settle in for my two and a half weeks.

Oh and earplugs aginst the zombie moans, need some of those.

Having not seen the latter, but also not having a plentiful supply of ammo about the place, I think I'd take my chances in War of the Worlds. As said in other threads, the vast networks of metro stations in Newcastle would make plentiful hiding places; ships to commandeer etc, if I know I've got 12 hours before the fun starts, then I don't see why I can't go bribe a fisherman to take us out for a month. Even if that fails, no 100 foot tall fighting machine would be able to cope overly well in the narrow winding hills and valleys of the borders, so I think any tripod would spend more time trying to keep it's feet than hunt humans.

Moose-boi. The Martians aren't going to lose via disease this time. Hope you've got a a long-term plan. As for tripods keeping their footing, they don't seem to have ANY trouble negotiating broken/difficult ground.

And heading out to sea for one month means that you'll just be delaying the inevitable. If a flying machine doesn't get you first.

Who needs a long term plan particularly? All we need to do is survive for 20 days and then we get transported back - the invading aliens demonstrated no flying technology or any other attack vehicle other than the tripod and no mention of flying machines was made in the film. It's vastly inefficient for the tripods to spend time hunting one or two human boats in the North Sea when they'll have an island of 60 million brits to hunt without massive energy expenditure. I'll stock up on supplies and pay a man to take us out for 20 days until I get returned to my own time.

Shit. I missed that part. 20 day gap eh? Fucking hell. Assuming that I'm in Hobart? I'm fucking set for either scenario. I'll go with Zombies still however. Canned food and a fishing boat and any one of the tens of larger offshore islands mean that I can easily get there with my new found friends and survive for the 20 days required.

Actually, I just realised that I would definately want to try and survive in the world of the new War of the Worlds movie.

Why?

Because in the new movie, the invaders all seemed to die within less than five days.

Take that, Zor. :P

I choose dawn of the dead. I would first stock up on guns and ammo, food, and water and then set up in some really tall building where there is only one way up to and hold out for the 20 days

Dawn of the Dead.. at least you can kill zombies. And are we talking original Dawn of the Dead of remake? Because if it's original, and you know all about zombies, fairly easy to avoid. Stay out of populated areas, keep gun, run fast. The end.

Considering that Zor mentioned the presence of a virus, and Zor being Zor, it's the new one.

I'll probably go with the Dawn o' the Dead scenario: over in Buffalo, there's a marina of sorts where they have a few WW2-era ships on isplay, one of them being a sub: with Buffalo being right next to the border, I could easily get my five grand chaged to an acceptable currency, then stock up on all manner of canned goods and a few illegal guns and as much ammo as I can get. Once things are set, I go down, crash the gate next to the sub, force everybody out of sight, then get my stuff aboard and seal 'er up: with shit hitting the fan everywhere, the police won't have morethan an hour or two to deal with me before they start getting called in to deal with the zombies. Hell, if the thing's still operational, maybe I could figure out how to get it to dive and submerge it a few feet..

'course, we also have a subway of sorts, I think, so if I decided to go with a War of the Worlds scenario, I might be able to hide down there. Would the Tripods even bother with hitting Buffalo, or searching the subway beyond a few dozen meters?
This has been another blunder by you friendly local idiot.

Gonna go with the DotD. $5000CD coverts to about $4200USD right now. I already live in the US so I'll assume Q is nice enough to give me the US currency, if not I'll just stop at my bank and get it exchanged.

After that... WALMART!

Everything you need to prep for a 20 day camping trip under one roof. You can get a decient rifle and shot gun there for cheap (Hell, you can walk in, pay cash, and walk out with it in less then 30min), plenty of ammo, and camping gear over in sporting goods. Clothing, toiletries (Funny how I'm the only one that remembered this. You guys weren't planning on wiping your asses with leaves were you? And could you imagine your breath after 20 day with out a toothbrush?), water, and food there too. Then I'd have to snag a decient laptop, some games, and a shitload of DVDs (action flicks, comedies, a copy of DotF for reference and entertainment purposes, and lots of porn). Oh... And definently make a trip to the liquer store... Then I can do "Snipe-A-Zombie" the drinking game.

Then go with Mr. Bean's idea of camping the water tower.

I'd still have a couple of grand left after hitting WallyWorld. Will Q let me keep any money I don't spend after the 20 days is up?

DotD for me.

There's a ton of abandoned ships out in a harbor not more than fifteen minutes away from me. So, stock up on provisions, maybe some extra gasoline if the engine works, get me a gun (if I have to steal it, so what? World's going to Hell in 12 hours, anyway) and hide in the boat. Water's deep enough that they can't climb on, except by the anchor chain and if they do that they make themselves easy pickin's.

Plus I can block up the openings in the cabin enough so they can't get in. And, if they happen to have a working engine, I'm gettin' the Hell out of Dodge and parkin' myself out at sea.

I've not seen WotW yet, but I'm probably fucked either way. I think WotW tripods would be better, though, since it's likely they've got bigger fish to fry than me. I just take a load of quilts and shit and go hide under a nearby disused railway tunnel, making periodic lootings for food and the like. If it's zombies, I'll get eaten, probably.
