Dirge of Cerberus: FF VII prequel
I've just gotten wind of a supposed PS2/PS3 game that is going to be a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. It's called Dirge of Cerberus, and as far as I can see, you are going to be playing as Vincent as the main character this time. It looks like a pretty cool game so far, and I'm very interested to see what it's going to be like.

Not Prequel, sequel.
The FF7 timeline is going to be:
Before Crisis -> FF7 -> Advent Children -> Dirge of Cerberus
But yeah, it does look interesting, if nothing else they show they actually have PS2 quality models of the FF7 characters. And Vincent does deserve a little more screen time.

Because those who recignize 6 as the greatest ever aren't ridiculous fanboys.Anarchist Bunny wrote:Why can't Final Fantasy 6 get this kind of treatment?
I don't mean to imply all 7 fans are ridiculous or fanboys, but there's a huge contingent of them, yet few for six. So. No movie.

Damn proud of it too! FF7 forever!!!!!

It might also have something to do with the fact that 6 was a 2-D game. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the fanboys are the main reason, but I'm sure it was easier to refine the already 3-D models than to take the pixellated sprites from six and make them 3-D characters.SirNitram wrote:Because those who recignize 6 as the greatest ever aren't ridiculous fanboys.Anarchist Bunny wrote:Why can't Final Fantasy 6 get this kind of treatment?

Eh... each character had a detailed portrait very much at odds with the comical-looking game avatar.Trogdor wrote:It might also have something to do with the fact that 6 was a 2-D game. I also feel compelled to mention the fact that 6, and not any other in the series, received the attention of Jeremy Soule, who did a full orchestral fan variation on Terra's theme.

FFVII sold a lot more copies than FFVI and is a much stronger intellectual property (especially in the U.S.).Anarchist Bunny wrote:Why can't Final Fantasy 6 get this kind of treatment?

Some of them are already voiced anyway. The Japanese version of Advent Children is using the same voices for Cloud, Aerith, and Yuffie as Kingdom Hearts. (whether a dubbed version would do the same is unknown)Admiral Valdemar wrote:(albeit, without chibi characters and with voices to ruin my original ideas).
You can get both...Admiral Valdemar wrote:It was also my first outing into the FF universe, or any RPG for that matter. And I have to say that I never collected Vincent either, I always went for Yuffie because a) she has a cool weapon, b) she is kawaii.
I always found Vincent to be overrated anyway, but it really doesn't matter which characters you use as long as you have the right materia, which is FFVII's weakness.

For most other people have posted, plus, I think, because it was the first FF on the playstation, which made it that much more versatile with it's options for the next gen systems. Why can't Final Fantasy 6 get this kind of treatment?
This is true, but there were still some parts of FFVII that were damn hard, the Weapons for example. I've always seen FFVII as a game that was there a little bit more for the story than the gameplay. It probably has one of the most touching and heart wrenching stories out there for a game, even now. There's another good reason to mae sequels and stuff.I always found Vincent to be overrated anyway, but it really doesn't matter which characters you use as long as you have the right materia, which is FFVII's weakness.

Didn't they do some FMV scenes for them though in the rerelease to the PS1?Trogdor wrote:It might also have something to do with the fact that 6 was a 2-D game. I think Vincent might get the attention because he has that whole "I'm a fuckin' bad ass" thing. I wouldn't mind him getting a prequel though, since he has the Turk/Lucretia thing that you only really get a hint at.
And what is this "Before Crisis" thing?

FF6 will always be the better game for me.
As far as story goes...
How many games do the Bad Guys win? Or at the very least the good guys achieve a phyrric victory at best.
There is no happy ending at the end of FF6, the bad guy is dead true, but the world is dieing, people have been lost, thousands in some cases, and monster roam the lands even more powerful than the ones before.
The only thing at the end of FF6 you get is the fact that at least you got the finaly got that bastard Kefka

It's a prequel due to be released in 2006 for mobile phones. There's some online component (character data is stored on a central server), it makes use of things like handset cameras (you create materia by taking pictures, and the colour combination in the picture determines what kind of materia you get).RogueIce wrote:And what is this "Before Crisis" thing?
It's set six years before the game, and is basically the story of how ShinRa take over Midgar. There are at least four playable characters, Reno, Elena, and two other unknowns, though more may well be added.
Chances are, you'll need a fairly shiny handset in order to play it.
That sucks. Although I suppose it's probably cheaper to do it this way, playing on a mobile phone is going to blow, unless you have one with some supersized screen.Vendetta wrote:It's a prequel due to be released in 2006 for mobile phones. The impression I got at the end of FF6 was that now, with Kefka dead, things would finally start to recover. I seem to recall some scenes in the ending montage to that effect, but I can't remember any specifics at the moment.Mr Bean wrote:FF6 will always be the better game for me.
