(although unfortunately enough, it is now apparently cannon that Plageuis was the master of Sidious-a stupid, overly Byzantine plot device, but whatever).
What? Palpatine being Plageuis' apprentice makes perfect sense.

You don't have the scepter of Marka Ragnos or access to the Valley of the Jedi. NO creating more force users. No, back away!

That's more or less my point. A good plot shouldn't make THAT much sense...it becomes too convoluted and contrived for its own good. It would have been much more compelling, in my opinion, for Plageuis to be a long-dead Sith that Palpatine happens to find the story of inspiring, rather than Palpatine's master. Another downside to Plageuis being Palpatine's master: if it turns out Anakin was his creation, it means that both Anakin and Luke Skywalker more or less exist because of the dark side. I find the theory that Anakin was conceived by the force to stabilize itself in the face of Palpatine's monstrous manipulation of the dark side more appealing for that reason.

There's a difference between having a rich, complex plot and a plot with large numbers of obvious twists, and to its discredit, Star Wars has been tilted towards the latter recently. That said, I love it anyway. No SF is perfect.

I would run around killing evil and vile people sort of like Boondock Saints style of vigilante killing. I would also search out my couterpart and study his moves. If he is good then I will ask him to join me on my quest to rid the world of evil. If he is evil then I will kill him with a high powered sniper rifle. I will form a group of elite mercs who have similar views as I have and we shall use the loot we get from the kills we make to fund are operation.

I see your point, and in another circumstances, it might be too convient, but look at the past state of the Sith. Since the Battle of Ruusan and Darth Bane's rule of two, there have only been two Sith at any time, or only one if the current master is between apprentices. This kind of limits the range of people Plageius and his myth could have come from. In some way, Palpatine has to be related to the old Master (ie his master's master had to have killed him or whatever.) This is different from say Jedi, where if say some random knight claimed to have learned from a Master of myth, it would seem far-fetched, if only because the size of the Jedi order is far, far larger.

Besides, if Palpatine actually knew that life skill (which is unknown), he would have had to take part in the myth in some way, even if Plageius was some ancient part of the line. Due to the nature of the Sith progression, Palpatine would have had to kill his master to become one in his own right, and the only one who could have tought him the skill was that master. So in a sense, Palpatine's involvement is inevitable.

As for Anakin's heritage, it seems like that part of the Sith plan has been dropped completely (it was diffinatively cut from the film and script, as well as the novelization.)

You raise a valid point Noble. Not only would the master & apprentice system dictate the knowledge one Sith would have for his predeccessors, but the inherently Byzantine nature of the way in which the Sith do business makes a hypercomplex plot more logical. That said, I prefer the Frank Herbert approach to complexity, where not every obvious twist turns out to be the case.

By the way, I'm relieved that they scrubbed the Anakin as a Genuine Product of Sith Manufacture plotline. The idea that Anakin, and consequently, Luke and Leia, would be even slightly the creation of a Sith lord would have a profoundly darkening effect on the series, and it would add huge depths of moral complexity. That said, the question of Anakin's immaculate conception does need to be addressed, but a better, less disturbing explanation must exist.

In closing, also, I'd like to take a stab at the original purpose of this thread, that being, what I would do with force powers.

I think I would telekinetically strangle this one SOB at the local Verizon
Wireless outlet who attempted to deny me contractually guaranteed maintenance of my cellphone.

"I find your lack of empathy disturbing"
(and then I gesture to his assistant to replace the phone and leave the first guy alive but grasping for air ala Admiral Motti).

An added benefit of doing the Lord Vader on the guy is that it would be such a bizarre incident, no one would believe it had happened even if they reviewed the security tapes. They would think he was faking it. Thus, it would be possible to give someone the scare of their life and get away with it Scot-free. Heck, the ability to telekinetically choke someone could be useful in many, many service industry situations, like when dealing with a nasty postal clerk, dishonest salesman, et cetera.

I would hunt down every WOIing ST Fanwhore I could find in my lifetime, and mind-trick them to publicly admitting (on the Strek-v-Swars boards no less) that Star Wars is superior to Star Wars. If possible, I'd permanently make Darkstar see the error of his ways. But since this is the Pure Star Wars forum, and not the VS Board I'll settle for making Jack Thompson publicly admit his stupidity and publicly apologize to the general public for his assholery.

After that, I plan on visiting Mr. Lucas, to discuss the release of the Star Wars DVDs and a little matter of "Quality Assurance."

And god help my opposite if he (or she) tries to stop me, I will bring upon him (or her) more pain than the aforementioned "second coming of Yoda" would ever inflict. I will shove force lightning into orfices he (or she) did not have previous to the encounter with me. However, if this opposite force user is any self respecting fan, then they will join me to rid this gala..ahem... world of impurities.

Then after that, they're fair game though  Hmmm, I guess after that, I would hit vegas, amass a small fortune. Play video games and PnP roleplaying games in an early retirement. Maybe go on a killing spree or two if the mood is right. Oh, and keep the lightsaber close by my computer incase the RIAA, MPAA, any other irritatinf anti-piracy types come knocking... not that I pirate anything mind you....

And you are indeed correct Necron Lord, I would indeed use it to pick up lovers... by the dozen... 8)

That assumes that Darkstar and Thompson are both "weak minded." I'd say that's a safe bet.

I just had a thought.

Force speed supposedly works by increasing the body's metabolic levels to ludacrous heights, thus increasing the rates at which a person is able to move and react to things, right? Well, what if you kept the power turned on 24/7 or as long as you could and kept a steady supply of water and the essential nutrients nearby: if you applied your uber-metabolic levels to an exercise regiment, could you then lose weight and build up your strength at ten or twenty times the normal rate (or whatever the increase amount the power gives)?

If so, that'd be the first thing I do: screw Vegas, screw politics, I get my ass down to the local gym and leave it sitting on the bench-press.
This has been another blunder by you friendly local idiot.

I was under the impression that was the kind of force power that was extremely draining (like making starships implode, etc.) and only for use in desperate situations. Heck, its not even seen used in combat except in very limited bursts.

The Force doesn't care if you are light or dark. The Force wanted Anakin created and it got him. Doesn't matter if it was Plaugeus or Yoda. It's all about destiny. One way or the other you are going to do what the Force wills you to do.

Using the beautiful mind trick power I'd have aquired an RPG-7D or better (though its doubtful I could get anything else, while the RPG-7D is pretty much a guarantee since they're so common). Then I would practice making myself invisible to the Force and blinding other people with it, both abilities the other guy wouldn't think of unless he was a die-hard Star Wars fan. Being undetectable, I'd observe him, find patterns in his behaviour, and track him.

One day, in a nice ambush spot, I'd blind him to the Force, which he would undoubtably be able to counter, being of approximate Force strength; but it would surprise him and buy me the few seconds with which to hit him with a TBG-7V FAE grenade and end him.

Priorities:

1. Roulette table
2. Craps table
3. Poker ("you want to call" or "you know I'm not bluffing")
4. Racetrack (announcer: "Amazing, all the horses except for the longest shot have just inexplicably tripped!")

and if there's time, use mind trick to shoot up the corporate ladder of some multi-billion dollar company.

My point was more of willpower. I realize that he/she would be my equal in combat, but I have more drive than the other, I guess if it I knew I wouldn't be able to win, I would try to destroy them psychologically. Sneak around, plant drugs on thier property, cut power lines, mess with the plumbing, poison his food, etc.

Sidious and Yoda boosting their abilities are probably a mix of what you mentioned, as well as telekinesis.

However, certain feats, such as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon speeding away from the two Droidekas, are certainly more than an increase in metabolic levels. It's not just superhuman, it's downright superphysical.

I simply become self sufficient and retire into obscurity. Live off the land and all that. I never really sought control of the universe, just my own portion of it. And if it's farther out than I can walk in a day, I'm really not going to bother worrying about it. Some place with mountains, lots of trees, and nobody to annoy me all the time. I'd more or less just keep to myself.

And as for the other guy, he can do whatever he damn well pleases. If he comes over, I'd show him all due courtesy as a host. If he tries to dispose of me, I would by way of hobby already collected more than enough firepower to defend myself.

A more realistic way of doing that would be to do a daily workout that'll leave you hurting in places you didn't know could hurt in the morning and use healing trance instead of sleeping.
