Stargate RPG

Post by Keevan_Colton »

I was wondering who else had the Stargate RPG and who would be interested in playing a game of it?

I have it, someone tried to run a game here awhile ago but it didn't really get off the ground.

I'd play if you'll take me.

I've come into posession of the various source books that go along with the main book so the bug has bitten me to run something again...I'm thinking of starting it off just after Children of the Gods/The Enemy within and diverging from there...

I might be up for it...

I've got a Lvl 3 Airforce Pararescue Soldier who was meant to be in a campaign that never started.

AEG Website wrote: For the last several months, AEG has been engaged in negotiations with MGM and Sony Entertainment to continue publishing the Stargate SG-1 role-playing game. Sadly, Sony has chosen not to renew our contract at this time, meaning that we will no longer be able to publish Stargate SG-1. It has been a thrill to be a part of such a dynamic and well-received property for the last two years; we will miss it a great deal. We thank MGM for their hard-work and professionalism during our partnership together, and wish them the very best for the future of Stargate SG-1.

As for the game itself, we hope to keep supporting it through the online forums and with occasional adventures, scenarios and character ideas. On behalf of AEG, we’d like to thank you for supporting this game so enthusiastically.

Your energy has made this job a joy and served as inspiration for us every day we’ve come into work. Thanks so much for lending your vision to this game. We only hope that we have been worthy of it.

Which is a shame, cause the Stargate universe is extremely roleplayable and as diverse in its themes as Star Wars*. A far cry from the limited Earth - Abydos millieu created in the original movie.

*Meaning, in Star Wars you can play a smuggler-based or Jedi-based or bounty hunter-based or straight military-based adventures / campaigns and they all can have the distinct feel of Star Wars. I feel the same with Stargate, seeing as now you can have a Daedalus-class ship based adventures or a Free Jaffa Nation based intrigue, or the standard "everyone's in an SG team" campaign, and they can be distinctly Stargate.

If we can rustle up a couple more players I'm thinking level 3 for starting characters. Standard point buy, with all the basic classes available and the ones from the expansion books. No off-world, tokra, etc characters due to the starting time.

I've run some sessions with the Spycraft-powered Stargate system, and overall, it's pretty fun. A lot of the things about the system I enjoy, with one major exception - the combat. The goal of the game should be to recreate the combat style from the show, where SG teams gun down Jaffa like mad, where a single shot can put a person down or in bad shape. D20, even with the spycraft modifications, doesn't do this too terribly well, unfortunately. With a few mods, it might replicate the feel better, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this.

However, it is a rather fun game, so I kept the rules I liked, and gutted the rest of the system for Silhouette.

Judicious use of action dice can REALLY ruin a players day. Especially when that named Jaffa character (name them, so they can use GM action dice) nails an SG member in the face with a staff blast.

I'd be interested, but I need the specifics on rolling up a character. I'm under the impression that it's d20, and if so I know the basic rules on rolling up a character, but I need to know specifics (like skills, feats, abilities, or whatever).

It's a d20 variant, basic stats are the usual for d20, after that it gets a little more involved, if you message me I'll give you the details and talk you through it.

Alright. Before I start, what's the particular setting of this campaign? All SG team members or something?

The setting is just after Children of the Gods/Enemy Within (basically the start of season 1) it'll be an SG-Team, military characters or specialists of whatever sort.

OK - I'll find and transcribe my Lvl 3 Pararescue Soldier to here (he's unpleasant - a bit of a gear monkey, took some of the extra gear picks feats as well as being very efficient in combat and a medic to boot).

Humm, I do indeed have the book, the S1 sourcebook and the snakehead sourcebook. Any space left? An anthropologist character could be fun, as well as almost essential.

For authenticity's sake, and for the sake of my poor limited-proficiency scientist, will we be using the 'Standard Issue Weapons' rules?
Standard Issue Weapons
SG teams are issued a variety of armaments, depending on their primary assignment. GMs who prefer a more heavily-armed SG team should replace the FN P90..." line in the standard SG team bundle wit h"standard-issue weapons." This includes one sidearm, one primary weapon (if the team member is qualified to use it) and the team members choice of a bayonet or a survival knife.
The standard issue sidearms for non-Russians are Beterra M9s with 45 rounds (3 15 round mags).

The standard issue weapons for exploration teams are listed as (in this time period) HK MP5A3s with 150 rounds, taclights, 2x sights and a magazine clamp. Also, for weedy nerds like my character, the primary weapon is replaced with double ammunition for the sidearm.

I'm of course, all for this, as it means I don't have to spend all my GP on a sidearm for my... less than gun savvy character.

A work in progress for you folks to take a look at, one as-yet-unnamed bookish scientist (much smarter than you are) with more than a passing interest in archeology, anthropology, and history. And he's working on speaking more languages than Dr Weir.
