Sith

Post by Max »

I have a random question, and I was just talking to my best friend about this.

Q: Why aren't the Sith mentioned in the original Star Wars Trilogy?

Did something happen that they were mentioned in only the prequels? I don't recall them ever being mentioned in the updated original movies. I could be wrong, and happened to not be paying close enough attention, so I apologize in advance.

Wasn't Vader referred to as a Dark Lord of the Sith in the ANH opening crawl?

I'm almost certain that Vader is reffered to as a Sith lord in the movies, and he absolutely is in the novelisations.

They are in the Novels.

They weren't mentioned, I think public knowledge of the Sith was quashed and downplayed by Sidious... since the Sith have, on many occaisions, conquered the galaxy and plunged it into darkness.

I am absolutely certain that at no point in the OT movies was the term "sith" mentioned in conversaton or in any opening crawl.

The closest anyone comes is "Dark Lord" and that Vader is a practictioner of the "Dark Side".

"Sith" simply doesn't pop up at any point.

I am personally 1000% positive that the term "Sith" is never mentioned at all in any of the OT films.

Your right about the crawl, I just checked Wikipedia and it isn't in the crawl for any of the OT films.

I think it wasn't really that important to the main story of the films to go into in the OT. However, the sith were definatley in lucas' mind because it is mentioned in the book.

And mentioned in most of the early drafts. The Sith were first mentioned in the rough draft (dated May 1974), but in the first draft (dated July 1974) the Sith were referred to as the "Legions of Lettow", but was reverted back to the Black Knights of the Sith in the second draft (dated January 1975).

The Sith were not mentioned in the FINAL opening crawl on ANH. In fact, ANH mention's the Empire's "sinister agents" Nowhere NEAR mentioning, the force, Sith, or Jedi.

Earlier versions of the opening crawl had mentions of the Sith. As well as earlier drafts of the script for A New Hope.

Actually, the Sith were mentioned in the first draft. There were actually two versions of the first draft, with the only significant difference between beiing certain names. In the first version of the first draft the dark knights were the Sith and they hunted the Jedi Bendu, while in the revised edition they were the Legions of Lettow and hunted the Dia Noga.

see int he Prequel Trilogy the main story is about the Sith defeating the Jedi

the Original Trilogy is the rebirth of the Jedi and the Rebellion defeating the Empire
