data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

It's just like watching Gekiganger, only without as much action, and Gekiganger is much more exciting - Let's Gekigan in! Am I beginning to sound like Gai Daigoji? :D
The thing is that oftentimes even doing that doesn't make the episode not suck.

Ah, I see. Your Anti-Idiocy Barrier isn't up to date.

I suggest you upgrade at your nearest Pro-Intelligence Store as soon as possible.

I don't think Trek is better than everything else, and I'm a trekkie, or a former trekkie, it was my first love, then came Star Wars, but eventually babylon 5, which for some reason is not on Scii anymore. Is it because of Thanksgiving?

I'm too cheap for that. And I think that making the captain a genocidal maniac would overwhelm even the most up to date anti-idiocy barrier.

Seeing as I am a well known Trekkie at SB, I am on Mike Wongs hate mail page, I am a well known Trekkie here, that and the fact that Mike Wong doesn't see me as rabid and considers me (and a handful of others) a rational trekkie...

You do the math.
Sorry.... my brain is all mathed out from my adv. calculus quizzes this week. :D

I think the reason is very, very simple: The characters throw around impressive sounding dialogue. Gigajoules! I mean, their knowledge of 'giga' is how big a harddrive is, and they are bound to conclude this must be a BIG thing. This dialogue also creates the false aura of realism, which further contributes.

What impressive dialogue?
I wouldn't exactly call the crap they throw around on Trek dialogue. :D :D

Why, you ask? Simple. Because people are stubborn and egotistic. They don't like being wrong, and many will shut their ears and ignore all the evidence that says they're wrong. Just look at the US. Fundies galore.
