B&B are planning ST11 and ST12. ST12 is said to include casts from multiple ST series.

As for the TV show, don't know.

Oh, and take a load of this from Berman:

Berman wrote:“I can tell you right now we’ll be making another film,” Berman says. “There’s never been a STAR TREK movie that wasn’t profitable for Paramount. One of the things about STAR TREK movies is there’s no risk in making them because the studio knows if you spend this much money on producing the film, you’re going to make that much money, or you might make that much money. But there’s pretty much a window of the profitability of these films… unlike non-STAR TREK films which could be total wrecks and not make a dime, or could take off and make $200 million, there’s a risk involved. There’s very little risk involved in STAR TREK films, so I think we’re a long way from seeing the end.”

How big is Berman's checkbook anyway? I mean, just how much money has he earned from his mingiling?

Seriusly though, I thought they were just idiots who thought what they were doing was art.

Star Trek's future?

It hasn't got one.

Berman? Only interested in money? How can he be only interested in money if that quote above clearly shows his obvious lack of any knowledge in money matters?

I don't think it's money. I think Berman And Braga have somehow gotten into their heads the notion that Star Trek is their baby, their favorite playtoy.

It says that Berman knows that a ST film will make money no matter how shitty it is. That means that he cares about the money rather than the quality of ST.

"One of the things about STAR TREK movies is there's no risk in making them because the studio knows if you spend this much money on producing the film, you're going to make that much money, or you might make that much money."

See. Right here. He has the idea that just spending money will make it profitable without worrying about quality. He just wants a profitable film to make money, not to make a good movie.

We have all seen "planet of the apes". So we all know what's going to happen to Star Trek; a bunch of apes will conquer the federation and enslave them all   ...
But not until Paramount stops earning money from it, of course... :o

Star Trek has no future. It's dying slowly before our very eyes. I wouldn't be suprised if Nemesis is another big nail in the coffin. It's going to be a horrible movie in all likelyhood.

Basically the horrible, horrible writing and managment of Trek will kill it. Enterforaprize has lost a lot of the hardcore fans. Sooner or later it's just going to die.

Damn, B&b for that. Trek used to be GREAT for fuck's sake!

B&B and Paramount will keep making Treks as long as they draw audiences, and it seems that the quality of the product doesn't matter that much for Trekkers/Trekkies/whatever who are still going to watch them simply because they carry the name Star Trek or Enterprise. Unfortunately Voyager and Enterprise have gained new fans who didn't previously Trek, which means that we'll be probably enjoying the Trek universe for years to come.

Because they are afraid to make any big changes to the concept (remember how Enterprise was supposed to be different from previous Treks?) or try something original (how many times Archer & co have been taken hostages during the first two seasons? six times?), I'm not optimistic about the future of Trek.

I think modern Trek is a fucking tragidy. I grew up as a kid watching TOS and the early series's of TNG. They were classic, then Paramount had the notion of butting Berman and Branagh in charge. Under B&B Trek has fell to new lows. Even going so far in one book as to have Riker say that in the modern era Kerk is reguarded as a myth, "If Kirk was involved in half the missions that were reported, his 5-year mission would have lasted 20". B&B seem to have a policy of pissing on any work they aren't getting royalties for. I wish them a quick yet painful death.

B&B have absolutely nothing to do with the Trek literature. As you may have noticed, Trek novels are not considered canon and have almost nothing to do with the shows themselves. Your blame should be aimed at the publisher, which is Pocket Books, and its editors at the Trek department.
