I must say that in a thread that has come up recently in SB and while a large majority in SB support evolution there are a suprising amount who also support creation.

1) There are lots of stupid people in the world.
2) SB has alot of posters.
Ergo, if 1 & 2 are true, SB has lots of stupid people. That really explains it.

IIRC, board policy is to break links to other forums. You may want to have a mod break that.LeftWingExtremist wrote:I must say that in a thread that has come up recently in SB and while a large majority in SB support evolution there are a suprising amount who also support creation.

A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Invasion by SB.com? That'd be a laugh. Most there will talk ill of this place, but they're too chicken shit to come and do anything, so we have a nice separate co-existence.
This news doesn't surprise me, nor is it really news. I've debated with many similar minded people there on other issues and frankly it's depressing. More so when you recall what the place was like 5 years ago.

Wrong. Its board policy to break links to potentialy hostile sites. SB.com and SD.net get along just fine thank you very much.Surlethe wrote:IIRC, board policy is to break links to other forums. You may want to have a mod break that.

I'm pretty sure you, me and a whole host of others gave him such a thrashing with the 2x4 of Reason and Logic last time that he dropped the whole Creationism stance altogether. That, or it was another guy. Though given the minds of some of these people, I'll bet it was him and he now has a mental block of that particular thread. And the beat goes on...Alyeska wrote: Doesn't stop idiots. Rarely does.

Well, let's be honest with ourselves. SB and SDN get along better than ASVS and SB, which were openly hostile. SB and SDN don't hate each other, and the populations contain lots of overlap, but there's understandable contempt towards SB here for harbouring idiots, and the idiots and little annoyances who have yet to been banhammered seem to love snapping at SDN.Alyeska wrote:Wrong. OT: 18 people total in the poll support creationism doesn't seem surprisingly large to me.

Last time a religious poll was done SB.com had an Atheist majority. Previously Atheists merely outnumbered the largest Christian group, but in the last year they outnumber all other religions. The poll is not surprising and not particularly disturbing. The problem lies in a vocal minority.

For the most part relations between the two boards is good because of mutual interests and talk on the same topics. Policies are different as are politics. Though SB.com has been going through a reformation phase that is far from complete. It started in the VS forum and is expanding from there. New rules are being written and violations of these rules can lead to permanent banning from the forums if the member does not learn to change their behiavor. Since the new rules have been implimented in the VS forum noticable changes have taken place. I have at my disposal the capability to ban people just from the VS forum. I can warn and ban people for your standard stuff as well as for rules violations (which include nitpicking canon like DarkStar used too) and conducting bad debating practices such as making absurd scientific claims after already having been corrected. No permanent bans from the VS forum as of yet, though a couple of lengthy bans have already shocked some members into submission.

Apart from the "vs" forum, I've always had the impression that SBers don't attack chatty spammy people as much as we do. Around here, just being spammy can be used as justification for flaming or even disciplinary action.
So what does that have to do with creationism? Well, it's my belief that lazy, sloppy thinking goes hand in hand with creationism. While there may be an "elite corps" of creationists which has decent rhetorical skills and finely honed "creationist website cut 'n paste" skills in addition to their basic dishonesty, the majority of creationists are just lazy-ass morons, too stupid and unmotivated to do any kind of real research on the subject. And I'll go on record saying that people like that are going to be spammy, chatty posters too.
So in effect, boards which are soft on spam are going to have a lot more idiot creationists too. And they're the ones who will have the worst arguments.

like I said in the thread being discussed, there are many different types of biblical creationism varying from
1. God started off the big bang ("God of the gaps")
...
x. to God created everything exactly as Genesis (1 or 2 with the other being ignored) says. 6 literal days with him making everything look old for [insert reason] despite any and all evidence to the contrary.
without clarification (i.e. a poll asking "what type of creationism do you subscribe to?" sometime in the future) it's hard to say what this poll means...

Can you post a link where you guys gave him an arse kicking. Last time I talked to him he said Occam's Razor supports the existence of God and failed to understand that you apply it only to theories which make the same predictions, no many times I explained it to him.PainRack wrote: An Ancient is still harping about creationism and hasn't given up on flood theory.
