An Ancient is still harping about creationism and hasn't given up on flood theory. And he's one of the more better educated creationists. However, I'm glad to see that the ass-fucking he received from Landa and myself over ancient technology seems to have been well received.

What you have to remember is An Ancient doesn't live in the real world. Try and remember, this is the man who is trying to have his US vs UK 2010 fanfic published (God, can you imagine?) and will absolutely refuse to believe that anything that isn't from Britain is better than something that is. His debating style consists of endless nitpicking which simply exhausts your willingness to debate, anecdotal evidence, and this constant description and appreciation of combat which sounds like his description of a TA game rather than actual combat (then the Eurofighters move in with the METEORS for the shoot down of the F-22s followed by the Challenger 2s shooting up the bases!!!11111)

Mike Wong personally ran off many creationists from this message board, as did various members and moderators. In general they find their stays here quite unpleasant. If, however, you had changed history and forced Mike and the others to fight without insults, mockery, etc. and had forced everyone to respect the creationists' viewpoints then there would be a lot of creationists here, as well.

The problem with debating creationists while being forced to "respect" their viewpoints is that their viewpoints are usually filled with ignorant and/or dishonest statements, and you would no longer be allowed to identify them as such. So in effect, by enforcing codes of civility, one would inadvertently protect liars and ignoramuses.

Someone could consistently spout lies and distortions in every single post and we wouldn't be allowed to call him a liar or a moron; the most we could do is politely refute each claim he makes, one at a time, looking up the necessary evidence in each case. And his response (knowing creationists) would be to simply spout more bogus claims. And after enough time has passed, he would also recycle previously-refuted bogus claims. In that kind of environment, creationists are bound to flourish.

Can you post a link where you guys gave him an arse kicking. Last time I talked to him he said Occam's Razor supports the existence of God and failed to understand that you apply it only to theories which make the same predictions, no many times I explained it to him.

Its a "bit" worst than that at SB. SB has never been anti-religion, and so, religious attacks aren't allowed. It isn't just civility that's enforced but outright attacks against the mistakes of religion.

That's why Seth has been allowed to run with his "Islam is worse than Christianity" bit for so long. Its difficult to attack his viewpoint, when others believe that you're advocating Seth own misguided way of thinking. For example, that whole sub-debate about Islam kill numbers vs Christianity kill numbers he and I got into. It was virtually impossible to show that Seth was a hypocrite by inflating Islam kills while alleviating Christianity deaths by saying it was normal.

I've lost count of the number of times I've called people like Aezeal and An Ancient idiots, morons, tinhaters (on the conspiracy angle to do with liberals). SB.com lets you call a rose a rose when they show their nature. Though your flames against them have to have substance.

It was between two jobs and action at the university was rather slow at the time, so it was a really nice time filler. I guess I learned allmost as much during the thread as An Anicient could have learned had he listened to us
