PAL DVD to NTSC DVD?

Post by Arthur_Tuxedo »

I recently acquired a UK DVD of a movie that's not available in the US. I knew that the region encoding issue wouldn't be a problem, but I forgot about the difference in format. I googled a few guides to conversion, but I must not have understood them, because they didn't work.

Does anyone know of a program that will do this automatically or a good step-by-step guide?

Your computer should be capable of playing PAL DVDs without problem. However, a set-top box must be capable of reading a PAL disc and then outputting an NTSC signal, which most can't do.

Mine can't. That's why I need to rip the PAL DVD, convert to NTSC, and then burn an NTSC DVD+R. The source DVD is less than 4.4 GB, if that matters.

Are you sure it's your computer hardware & not your software that's the problem? Have you tried using an alternate program to play the dvd?

It plays fine on my computer. I meant that it doesn't play on the set-top DVD player, which is what I want to play it on. Technically, it does play, but in black and white and with the top and bottom chopped off.
