Photoshop (for layers, so I can arrange objects easily and compare frames and such), FCE Ultra (for taking SMB3 screenshots), Google images (for the Death Star, exhaust port, and starfield pics), and Animagic Gif (a somewhat out-of-date animated GIF program, but I like it because it's easy to use and get the results I want).
Have you tried Imageready? It's been bundled with photoshop since version 6(IIRC).
