The nature of "demonic possession"

Post by Guardsman Bass »

Can anyone reference me to scientific work done on what has been called "demonic possession" a la Emily Rose, and what is probably mental illness? I tried googling it.

I do seem to recall at least one instance of demonic possession being attributed to a lack of understanding of what seizures were. Bugger if I can remember where I heard that from though.

Here's one i found by searching for "possession Anneliese Michel psychological". The Exorcism of Emily Rose was based on Anneliese Michel.

I think it's a pretty common idea, you can just imagine people in less scientific times screaming 'demon/witch!' at anybody with a mental disorder.
