Is the VenStar's fighter capacity wank?

I think that's not far from the truth (I mean come on just 12 squadroon for SSD and 24(!) for a DS).
The DS stats are crap as well, but they're not that bad. According to the EGTVV, it carried an "awesome array" of support ships, including 7,000 TIEs.

The DS fighter compliment of 24 is actually from the Star Wars: Rebellion/Supremacy game, IIRC.

That's only 100 ISDs. Think about how much larger DS1 is. That should tell you all.

There are more minimalism examples. 40 fighters support a Corps. A Corps that can expand to millions of men, supported by forty fighters - as far as is listed, the number of troopers go up, but there is no provision for augmenting the fighter wing.

It would have been less ridiculous had the Rebels (who supposedly wrote a lot of the WEG material) didn't keep insisting on how the Imperial mobilization was starving everyone. The numbers just don't add up!

Eta-2 Actis is about 1 meter shorter than a TIE, and the V-Wing is 1.6 meters longer than a TIE (5.47 (sw.com) or 5.49 (RPG) meters to 6.3 meters to 7.9 meters). Assuming packing nose-to-tail in a straight line, the 384 "small" fighters carried by the Venator would be the same length as a line of 408 TIE fighters.
True, if you only look at length. But, TIE fighters have huge non-folding wings that makes them take up lots of space on the floor, so you could probably squeeze in at least two each of the smaller prequel fighters in the space that a single TIE requires.
The larger planes, ARC fightiers and LAATs, are fewer in number.
Each ARC-170 is longer than an X-wing by 2 meters, or more than double the length of a TIE, so that's another 82 TIEs. The LAAT is listed as 17.4 meters in the RPG (only source I could find with length), so the 20 of them are as long as 55 TIEs.
Actually, I believe that a single ARC fighter should count as three of four TIEs, due to it's huge wings.

And also, the Imperators carry something like 8 Lambda shuttles and 15 Sentinels. The Lambdas are about the same size as an ATAT and the Sentinel is larger than that.
Combine this with the Venator's role as a carrier/destroyer, and it's not too much at all.
While I realize using length alone gives funky numbers, the 440 craft on the Venator are as long as 545 TIEs. For the ISD to only carry 1/6th that number is very odd.
Well, yes, it does seem a bit low, but also, the Imperators carry lots of other support ships and troops, and pre-fab garrison bases. And it also seems to have more focus on it's guns than it's carrier role.

The Dark wrote:True, but a good designer would account for the potential for battle damage to take out some of those systems, meaning you'd want slightly more space in case of needing to manually dock TIEs. Also, the Vens and ImpStars do carry heavier (relative) armament than a Nimitz, which takes up (relatively) more volume. You could fit in more fighters, but it would be more risky in case of battle damage.
ICS also shows huge corridors leading around behind the TIE bays, there's plenty of extra space to account for battle damage, and they've got a completely separate bay which is also huge and holds AT-AT's and there landing craft in not very tight confines. Battle damage should be a minimal issue, and in any case more fighters will help prevent it. If in your taking hull damage you've probuabbly lost many of those fighters anyway.

The multiple deck idea could make sense, though. Maybe that was felt to make the ship too fragile for some unknown reason?
It would reduce compartmetation, but it shouldn't affect the structure of the ship. Even just one flight deck, with the hangers on several decks in areas would greatly increase capacity.
