Why is Creationism/Big Bang so important?

After having yet an other pop at an American on an other forum complaining about how he wants to leave the US when he is older

If he is a creationist, where is he going to go? Last I checked, they don't teach creationism at all in Europe. Does he plan on living in the strongly Catholic Latin America?

He conceeded [before I got banned - see post in OT] that there is no place on earth that he wants to live. What a shame, to be 17 and want to live nowhere!

We're starting to get the wacky religion based schools over here in the UK thanks to the Private Finance Initiatives. Simplisticly the government sells a contract to a private company, who then build and maintain what should be public institutions (Schools, hospitals) and try to run them at a profit. I know there have been a couple of schools built by fringe religious groups so that they can push their own agenda.

As for being taught Big Bang\Goddidit at school - we had a general overview of the Big Bang and Evolution in Science classes, later we chose which Science subjects we wanted a more in depth view of. The Goddidit theories where left to our Religious Education classes (C of E school) where we also discussed other Religions\Mythology, basic structure of faith and the more important events from their "Big Book of Stories".

What doesn't help is Blair's promotion of faith schools - probably the most socially damaging policy seen in this country

Where I live, they teach creation in kindergarden and keep science/evolution for the young teens. I think I've turned out ok so I have no problem with them both being educated.

Imo, this guy should be welcomed to go back to kindergarden
