In fairness to the Jedi Fu or apparentenly lack of Obi Wan did hit a few sweet kicks in the PT, in AotC he kicks Jango a fair wack and in his duel with Anakin at the end a few kicks where exchanged IIRC.

My only expectation was that it was gonna suck badly with Jar Jar dominating the movie for all the wrong reasons. My fear was that they'd shown all the best bits in thw tailer as they did with TPM and AotC. Luckily i was dead wrong and I consider RotS second only to ESB.

I didn't really have that many expectations for it, except one. And I'd sen that one coming since the PT was announced.

There would be a mirror scene to the Luke/Vader battle in RotJ with Anakin making the opposite choice. And behold. Dooku vs. Anakin with Palpatine telling Anakin to kill an injured Dooku. And Anakin makes the opposite choice and kills Dooku. I did expect that it was here the final step towards the Dark Side would happen, but we had to wait until Mace Windu got killed for that...

That and The Duel, of course. But that wasn't really a prediction.

To be honest, I was hoping for a better space battle. The number of ships involved wasn't disappointing at all, but the fact that Lucas chose to put so little focus on the capships was mildly disappointing.

I also thought that Obi-wan would push Vader into the lava, not do a triple amputation.

I've pondered whether Vader's fate was slightly altered to avoid comparisons to Gollum's plunge into Mount Doom in LotR:RotK. It had always been my understanding prior to RotS that Vader actually fell into the lava rather than simply getting torched.

I thought that Dooku would kick anakin's and Obi-Wan's ass, till the unbelievable happens and Annakin goes crazy (again), showing the use of a robotic arm (crush his windpipe) . Anakin may say that his powers have doubled, but I never believed the kid anyway. I definately didn't expect them to win that easily. I also didn't expect any Grievous escape scene, I was hoping for a big showdown with Obi-Wan running around the battlefield, trying to avoid Grievous's lightsabers and the shooting droids while the Clones were rocketing their way through the atmosphere. Instead, Grievous was the one running away. And off course I had hoped for a battle without any R2-D2 beating up the entire droid army by himself. Though I hoped a bit more dramatic, the space battle was still a pretty good battle from the eyecandy point of view.

And I didn't expect my dvd to break down in the scene where Padme was all whining over Anakin to come back from the dark side, you took the wrong turn. :x That said, I kinda hoped that Anakin would go all evil when Obi-Wan arrived and knock of her nose with his lightsabre, but the good old Vader crush was probably a better idea anyway, to link Anakin with our favourite black armoured killing machine. So no regrets there.
(I'll try to get another dvd so I can see the end.)

The only thing about ROTS that surprised me was Grevious, when I first heard of him. The rest happened pretty much as I expected.

I expected more power in grievious.
I didn't like mace's death scene, I would have prefered darth wongs version with boba fett.
I thought yoda should have started to win against palpy, till he uses force destruction or of the like.
I would have thought there would be more wookies, and maybe grievious versus some wookies.

I can see the going out like a punk part, but how is being disintegrated by a seismic charge "fanwhore wanking"? Is a Jedi supposed to be able to survive direct contact with a gigaton level explosion? (If I'm thinking of someone else's fantasy, please feel free to berrate me for my error.)

However, I agree that his canon death was better.

Mace Windu getting killed by a seismic charge isn't fanwank. What's fanwanky is Boba Fett being the one to do it. He's a 13-year-old boy during ROTS for God's sake. Realistically, a little kid shouldn't even know how to pilot a ship yet (although Boba Fett can :wanker:), and would have his hands full just trying to survive alone.

What's worse is that it's bad storytelling. Boba is simply not an important enough character to bring back in ROTS just so he can have his little moment and steal attention from the characters who do matter. How would you even fit him into the plot? He's not an agent of the Sith or a Confederate soldier. Would he just randomly fly by and bomb Mace in the middle of a battle?

Let's not even get into the EU repercussions of letting a 13-year-old Boba Fett do this kind of thing in the movies. He's already been wanked up into the galaxy's ultimate badass from standing around and looking cool in TESB. The hack EU writers would inflate Boba's abilities to even more insane levels if they saw a kiddie version of him taking out the most powerful Jedi.

I was expecting a near duplication of the scene from ROTJ with Luke, Vader, and Palpy with a different conlusion.

Of course, we got a similar scene with lots of nice parallels to that one, but I was expecting something even closer to the ROTJ confrontation.

Something like this:

Anakin and Dooku fighting, while Palpy, now known to be a Sith by Anakin, sits in his chair and grins evilly.

Dooku: If you will not join us, then perhaps your child will.

Anakin: NO!

Anakin freaks out and manages to incapacitate Dooku.

Palpy: Good, now kill him and take his place!

Anakin: Okay!

I wanted to see Yoda get beat by Palpy.

I can't stand the Yoda wank. Sure Yoda kicks ass but really Palpy beat the Jedi for a reason.

Obi-Wan kick some ass.

Of course, I had a bit of a cheat that maybe not everyone else had. If memory serves (and it may not, but I was almost certain it did) some of the information regarding the rise of the Empire was cronicled in "Star Wars Technical Journal" a book that came out in 1995 (4 years before TPM). In it, the terms "Senator Palpatine" and "Corasaunt" were present in this 1995 book, long before the prequels debued. (I have no idea if the facts are even remotely close...I'm thinking they're not, but I was amazed that they got it even that close that far back.) The book basically stated flatly that Senator Palpatine was the same as the Emperor. I know not everyone bought the book, but the fact was kind of out there for the last few years to make it pretty obvious. (if the fact that it was the same actor wasn't enough of a clue in)

The Emporer's name was given as Palpatine way back in the 1983 RotJ novelization, and Coruscant has been part of the EU ever since the Thrawn Trology. Your book having those two facts in 1995 isn't terribly impressive.

WTF!? Did you even read the part of my post you quoted? Let me help you:
I really though that Palpatine and Sidious were different people. Though never doubted that Senator/Supreme Chancellor Palps and Emperor Palps were one and the same.
It was always clear to me that Palpatine would become the Dark Emperor of the Sith ever since he showed his face in TPM, the same way that it was obvious that the adorable little kid called Anakin would become Darth Vader. I just thought that Sidious was Palpatine's most trusted Lieutenant before Vader took his place. It turns out that Palpatine is Sidious and Vader replaces Tyranus. Essentially I thought that in order to ensure that his identity is concealed, Palpatine never directly contacted the separatists or Tyranus or anyone else on the faction that eventually became the CIS. Instead he had his apprentice, Sidious, do all that. This also has the added benefit that if Sidious bites the dust, the Jedi will think the Sith Lord has died when he is actually still alive and very close. However, I did like the way it turned out.

For those of you wanting to ask, "What did you think Palpatine's Darth [Something] nickname, was then?" The answer is: I thought he did not have one, it was just Sith Emperor Palpatine.
The Emporer's name was given as Palpatine way back in the 1983 RotJ novelization
Only the Novelization? I thought it appeared in the movie. If not, then I probably learned about it when one of my friends gave me the Dark Empire (I think that is the name of the one where Luke goes to the Dark Side) comic back in the 4th or 5th Grade. It is, and alway will be, my favorite part of the EU because the initial reaction of: "OMFG!!!!! MORE STARWARS!!!!! Still hasn't worn-off. Indeed, I was most disapointed when I found out that the chances of it ever turning into a movie are essentially non-existent.

LAME. Fett is cool, but he was blown way outta proportion by the EU writters as someone above me already stated. Jango was actually pretty lame as well and the time used covering his character could have been better suited showing more about the main character, Anakin. Crazy thought huh? I mean, did we really need to know the source of the clones dna? Who gives a fuck.

Mace's death was fine and it was needed to show that the right decision could have been made by Anakin, if it wasn't for his fear and arrogance.

I agree. It would have been the most Anti-Climactic death scent of the movie. Mace's Death was fine as is. It actually even got to me emotionally. :D

Hmm, I figured, after seeing the trailer, that Sideous would go back and forth between his "ugly crone" visage and his "normal" visage.

I figured he'd reveal himself as the "Sith Lord" with the ugly face to the Senate and they would just accept it and cheer because they were all under his power at that point.

I thought, since Lucas had said he was going to explain it, that we'd get an explanation why the Jedi disappear or don't disappear when they die. Of course we did get an explanation, but I was thinking it was going to be something more substantial, like what was portrayed in the original script (which I didn't read until after the movie of course, but that's more what I was expecting).

I expected Anakin to literally fall into the lava. The shot of him hanging on the edge in the trailer made me think it was going to be one of those "give me your hand! no, I don't trust you!" kind of things. I'm actually glad it wasn't that cliched and a little more believable.

The shot in the trailer of Padme looking really sad (like she'd just been crying) and Obi-Wan hanging his head next to her made me think that this was 'the scene' where Obi-Wan informs Padme that he thinks Anakin is dead (ie: after they'd had a battle and Obi-Wan sees his former Padawan fall "into the lava"). I expected Palpatine to later save Anakin from the fire (after he himself "claws his way out of the molten pit") but I didn't expect the cliched bit of him standing over him with his hand on his forehead, etc, all fathering. I just expected some Troopers or droids to lift him into a medical capsule (and not an open air one!) and rush him into a shuttle. I hoped there would be an evolution of designs with regards to his cybernetics but that was shattered with the trailer showing him exactly like we see him in the classic trilogy (except shiney and symmetrical for some reason). I figured they'd use some symbolism with regards to Vader "on the cross" (his old arm positions in the trailer on that operating table). Perhaps Palpatine would be torturing him somehow to make him more evil.

When I saw the shot of Anakin and Dooku dueling in front of Palpatine I immediately thought of ROTJ (as I was supposed to). But I didn't think that Palpatine was captured or that it was going to be one of those "oh I shouldn't have done that" moments. I figured at this point Palpatine had already taught Anakin the Dark Side, and he was ALREADY his apprentice, and Palpatine had simply arranged for the two to fight to see who was the stronger, thus Anakin "taking Dooku's place at my side" kind of thing. That THIS was the scene where he becomes "Darth Vader."

Somebody blabbed to me that Palpatine gets captured (I didn't see Clone Wars season 3 until after ROTS) so I assumed the scene of his ship on fire was just a short thing that happens and just serves to further cement the relationship of Palpatine and Anakin. I didn't connect it in my mind with so many other scenes that take place on there.

I didn't know how they were going to resolve a lot of the ANH stuff, so I didn't really consider that or how it was going to cause plot holes (or make Obi-Wan into an even bigger liar than before).

I thought that Mace Windu would be run through by Sideous in their battle in his office. I had no idea the other Jedi would be killed so quickly. I figured it would be a long battle and Mace would just be the last one to die.

I had no idea what would happen with regards to General Grevious. But somebody tipped me off that he'd be "killed by a blaster by Obi-Wan." So I just kind of imagined him being blown up on the battle field. Perhaps Obi-Wan would take a squad of Troopers in to take him out. Grevious would predictably kill all the troopers and everything they threw at him, then Obi-Wan would shoot him at the last second unexpectedly to win.

I also assumed Grevious would be revealed to have some force abilities. Otherwise I couldn't fathom how he'd be demonstrated as a threat to seasoned Jedi in a believable manner (I blame the Clone Wars series for distortion my perceptions on him!).

I thought we'd either see Jar Jar die or else he would simply not exist in the movie (wishful thinking on my part!). I thought perhaps, as some speculated, that he'd go to Alderaan and thus die there when the planet blew in ANH. I also didn't see Padme dying on the operating table, I figured she'd go with Leia to Alderaan as well (and die when Leia was very young, perhaps gradually 'out of grief', which would be more believable anyway but still a romantic notion and gel with ROTJ). I wasn't sure about how the pregnancy would be handled, but I speculated that she'd find out she was pregnant after fleeing from Anakin after he'd started to creep her out with his dark side stuff, and thus Anakin would never learn that she was carrying children.

I thought the "space battle" would be a lot shorter than it was. I figured the Clone Wars would be over right within the first few minutes and the rest of the movie would be the aftermath.

The clever editing of the trailer made me think that Aayla Secura would be gunned down right there, and we wouldn't actually see the death (quite the opposite was shown of course!).

I thought more stuff would happen on the Tantavie IV (sp?) rather than it just being the background for some last scenes of dialouge with Bail Organa.

I thought the stuff with the Wookiees would be more prominent. I knew Chewbacca was going to be in it, but I didn't realize that was actually him just because he had the same bandolier.

Due to some hype and their inclusion in that Visual Dictionary (which somebody posted a leaked page spoiler of) I got the idea that perhaps the Republic Commandos (from the game of the same name) would be tossed in to hype the game some more.

I thought we'd see Anakin hunting down and destroying Jedi Knights, not just his "march into the Temple" and facing Obi-Wan. The scene of his "turning" in the Chancellor's office was completely a surprise to me.

I feared that Fett would be in this one, but not seeing him in the trailers gave me hope (then again they didn't feature Grevious too prominently either so that didn't totally allay my fears).

I tried to avoid spoilers, but I ended up being spoiled on a lot of smaller things accidentally. In the end I'm glad I tried to avoid them though or I'd have known a lot more going in. I pretty much tried not to expect anything going in, beyond what I'd seen in the trailers, telling myself that any EU stuff might turn out to be inaccurate or false rumors spread by the likes of supershadow.

PS: The ANH Novelisation ("Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker") talks about "Senator Palpatine" becoming the Emperor. I honestly don't recall if the ROTJ novelisation calls him Palpatine or just "The Emperor" but it could be that it does. The name "Palpatine" is never uttered in any of the OT films, just as the term "Sith" is never mentioned in those films. It's the prequels that introduce those terms into the onscreen dialouge. Another thing people forget is that "Boba Fett"'s name is never used until ROTJ! (and then Han Solo mumbles it so you have to be paying attention)

I never got the whole "they are different people"! Thing either. I figured every Star Wars fan knew that. But I was shocked when TPM came out that people immediately thought they were different. I even had a tiny tiny fear that Lucas would make them different people just to screw with people's minds! ;)

Yes in the ROTJ novel he is referred to as Palpatine.

I was hoping too. After hearing about what he could do I was hoping that there would be some plausible reason that he was able to take on and defeat Jedi. Then There was Clone Wars which took that Idea and ran with it. There was no plausible reason that he should have had that level of succes w/o some Force ability. Personally, I'm glad that RoTS portrayed him differently, b/c that made the most sense.

Was Hoping for that too. However I do think there are deleted scenes which Portray Anakin Killing a number of Jedi Masters. (ex: Shaaka Ti) I just hope it's added on the DVD.

I was pretty much content with the movie, and I really love the final fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin, but one thing left me really disappointed: The opening space battle. I expected to see a full-blown fleet battle, with countless capships tearing each other apart, loads of fighters zipping about etc. Technically that happened, but I didn't see any of it, because the movie concentrated on two fighters and a bunch of buzz droids (which, no matter how you justify their existence, seem totally moronic to me).
"Death before dishonour" they say, but how much dishonour are we talking about exactly? I mean, I can handle a lot. I could fellate a smurf if the alternative was death.

Agreed. I would have had no problem speculating he simply overwhelmed them in massive battles with large numbers of droids, explosives, etc, and primarily picked the lightsabers off the corpses, rather than taking them on single handed in melee and winning. If he used heavy firepower or in the confusion of battle, to catch the occasional Jedi (like Jango Fett or the Geonosians could do) that would also make sense. But taking some lightsabers hand to hand? No way. What Obi-Wan did to him is what would realistically happen in his first battle.

Speaking of which, they could have constructed an entire alternate history for him. Perhaps he started out as just a big hearty alien fighter, and in battles with Jedi he got hacked up and wounded, so he'd just barely survive and be "rebuilt" each time, until he was completely cybernetic (except for his brain and a few organs). The idea being he would "just keep on coming" and stronger each time. His reputation could grow without the absurdity of the Jedi turning into idiot n00bs in his presence. Oh well!

If this were a Dark Empire type setting he would have been a Sith/Dark Jedi for sure, or somehow an ordinary mortal that was "infused" with the Dark Side of the Force.

Sadly I am assuming we won't get any new action sequences for the ROTS DVD.
