Mmm upgrades

Post by Mr Bean »

Time for a partial upgrade so I droped my old Wintel system with the old ratty ABIT IC7 board and its silly PIV 3Ghtz with its tinny 150gig drive and went all out.

Now...
A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 3500+(OC to 2.5Gthz)
2Gigs DDR400 RAM
*Wank EVGA 7800GTX ACS(OC 490 Core/1.4Ghtz Ram) Wank*
2x WD 160HD in a RAID 1 setup
Odds and ends and the old motherboard is being turned into a Linux box sometime after I get some free time.

Unless you OC, your getting bottlenecked by the CPU and probebly by your resolution, not to get you off your wank horse(I'd love to be on it) but the 7800GTX is severelly bottlenecked on anything lower then 1280X1024.

The CPU is running the equivlant of an OC AMD 4000+ and to overcome the bottleneck I'm going to choke it by running 4xAA with everything inculding Minesweeper :P
Oh and I baselined 8227 with 3DMARK 2005. Much impressed by the preformance gain there compared to my old systems 902 marks :P .

That looks similar to the system I want to get, except I'm aiming at a dual-core processor and more massive (suitable for video editing) hard drive storage.

The Dual proccesor is going to be a three month upgrade mark. I'm hoping the 4800 gets under the $250 mark in three months, or something much better hits the $380 mark.

Oh and storage with me is kinda crazy as at this point I have just over 1TB of drives laying around. Two 160GB(USED), one 80GB, three old ATA-33 40GB. One external 320GB WD Drive, two External 80GB WD. And of course 15 GB of Misc Flashkeys and MP3 players.

The one 320GB is also my primary backup.

Hehe, that compares quite nicely to my P3 500 that I am typing this on. ;)

How much did it all cost?

All parts were had for under $300

Except of course for the 7800GTX, my wallet still has not gotten over the cashwallectomny that I put it through to pay for that.

Just remember, you can't run games at 1600x1200 with 8x AA and 16x AF on hundred-dollar bills... :D

A pox on his computer! :P As long as the FPS does not even tense below 60FPS I'm fine with what I got.

Depends how much you can sale the Anthrax for on Ebay. Because Anthrax only comes in perfectly sealed but very easy to break tinny test tubes.

I know this because Mike Wallece told me so.
