ARGH! MAKE IT STOP! FireFox problems.

Post by Praxis »

Okay, this is getting really darn annoying.

It's been like this for a few months but it's gotten so annoying I can't take it anymore.

A few months ago I downloaded something in FireFox to the A: drive, the floppy drive.

Every since then, FireFox will check the floppy drive before downloading anything. Even though by default when I do save as it goes to D:\Videos\, every time it stops, the entire FireFox locks up, the floppy drive lights up, it makes the noise for about ten to twenty seconds while it checks the floppy drive, THEN lets me download. It gets really annoying when I'm trying to download several small things in a row.

I finally decided not to put up with it so I pulled the floppy out of the drive, hoping that if I told it to ignore the floppy enough times maybe it would stop looking there. Now, it STILL locks up for about ten or twenty seconds, except this time it says, "There is no disk in drive A", and gives me the choices of Cancel, Try Again, or Continue.

I have to press Continue anywhere from 2 to 10 times (the last download I did was 10 times, it's never less than 2 and it was a stupid little gif image) before it works, and there is a several-second gap in between.

Cancel works as well, and does the same thing as Continue.

HOW CAN I MAKE THE DARN THING STOP?

Your having problems with FireFox? Dude, thats just wrong... I mean, you have a mac, you have FireFox, thos are things that should NEVER lock up... Well, the last time MY mac sized up, smoke came out of the hard drive and I needed a new machine...

Yeah, I know :(

Just for clarification, it's the Windows PC with FireFox that's messing up (hence the A:) reference. The Mac is running it just fine.

Is this the default download folder set in the options menu, or simply the last used download directory ?

Is the file you downloaded to A: still in the download manager?

Regarding the download manager... might want to clean that up every week or so if you're the sort who downloads material frequently. If there's a large backlog, it can slow down DLs pretty majorly.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

That's what I thought and that was the first thing I checked (I'm really not that dumb to overlook something so simple).

It says "Save all files to: D:\Downloads"
No A.

Since I've never emptied the download manager, I suppose it must be but its been so long I have no idea what it was.

I just emptied the download manager. I think that fixed it! Thanks!

You might want to set FireFox to clear the download history.

Tools -> Options

Click the Privacy button. Click the + next to "Download Manager History". Click the pull-down menu and either select "Upon download completion" or "When Firefox Exits". I recommend the latter.
