Gary Grigsby's World at War Good or Bad?

Post by Stravo »

I saw this in the store today while buying new speakers for my office computer. It intrigued me but I've been burned too many times by taking a chance on a WWII strategy Wargame to simply buy it on a whim. Axis & Allies really pissed me off for instance, played it a few times and now it's a coaster.

Does anyone know about this game or played it to give me some advice on whether I'd enjoy it. Hearts of Iron was a fantastic game to play (despite the human wave horde of errors and glitches) so that would be the standard I'd be holding this game to. It does not have to be anywhere near as complicated but it should be enjoyable and not too repetitive or outright dull.

A casual glance through online reviews give it a solid rating.

I haven't played it, but you can try a demo of it here.

Somehow I thought it was a Matrix game. I've refused to purchase anything from them because of their policy of "Demos reduce sales so we don't do them."

Stravo, have you tried HoI2 yet? It's leaps and bounds above the original, and even the unpatched release had very few glaring bugs.

It is alright though if playing as Russia or the Western Powers ot is frustrating that you cn`t move troops around until you are unfrozen. Also I couldn`t move a Russian fleet TO the pacific through Allied held seas.
