Creationists and their logic

Post by mr friendly guy »

Inspired by the old Creationist and clocks thread

1. Athletes race around the stadium by doing laps. The creationists comes late to the race and sees the runners circling the stadium time and again. He sees that the runners cannot pass the "starting line" without circling the stadium, and they cannot circle round the stadium without passing the starting line. He tells you the race must have started in a different manner. He concludes that it started by the actions of a supernatural entity named God.

2. You show the Creationist a picture of a 2 cells, then 4 cells, then 8 cells. You then show him a picture of a foetus, then a baby, toddler, then an adult. You tell him these are the same person. He tells you its not possible because the second law of thermodynamics states complexity cannot form.

3. A man drives his car at 200 miles per hour. He crashes and dies. You point out this is an example of a road fatality. The Creationist tells you its not a road fatality, its an example of speeding.
You tell him that the road fatality is the end result, speeding is the process which leads to it. He tells you road fatalities haven't been observed, and that the people reporting it must have been mistaken. He reiterates this is only an example of speeding.

4. You show the Creationist the final result of a soccer match between Australia and New Zealand, which reads Australia 2 NZ 0. He asks for information about who scored the goals. You tell him. He then demands information about which players passed to which other players in the play leading to the goals. He then demands more information about free kicks and red cards given. You do not have the answer. The Creationist then tells you that Australia defeating New Zealand is "only a theory" as their is clearly gaps in your knowledge.

I had a long argument last night about the 'its only a theory, not a fact'. It wasnt even about evolution, just science in general.

But of course. Since God created man, his powers let you live, breathe, make your heart beat, etc, God clearly DID start the race.

The second law is quite precise about where it applies,
only in a closed system must the entropy count rise.
The earth's not a closed system' it's powered by the sun,
so fuck the damn creationists, Doomsday get my gun!
That, in a nutshell, is what entropy's about,

He would say that because the second law of thermodynamics states that complexity cannot form, therefore a baby is an act of creation by God. Hallelujah!

5. Two people with similar symptoms see two different General Practioners. Both are diagnosed with constipation and discharged. Both represent days later with symptoms worsening. Both GP's do an x-ray of the abdomen. Both tests show dilated loops of bowel and numerous air / fluid levels.

The first doctor changes his diagnosis to bowel obstruction and seeks surgical advice. The second doctor sticks to the diagnosis of constipation, and his patient perforates the bowel and dies. The creationist tells you the second GP was the better doctor because he did not have to "constantly revise his diagnosis".

6. You roll a 20 sided dice twenty times and record the numbers rolled. The creationist calculates the odds as 1 in 20^20, or roughly 1 in 104 trillion trillion (American trillion). He tells you that the probabilities are so low, you could not have rolled those numbers without divine intervention.

I hate that. Really, utterly hate that. For example, I brought up the fact that it is impossible to attain the speed of light, let alone exceed it. His response: You can't be sure of that, it's only a theory. It happens with every fucking physical law I bring up!

That first doctor is clearly a flip-flopper and should not be trusted.
