Poe one things I gotta ask
I don't remember if this is the case off the top of my head, but weren't some of these Borg from FC eventually part of an ENT show? Each time that happened, the disconnected Borg stopped obeying the collective.
-Seven became more human and less Borg in only a handful of episodes, and she was Borg since the age of 8. The only time she tried to rejoin the Collective was when outside forces maipulated her through her remaining implants.
-Locutis stopped fighting and quickly reverted to normal (TNG: "TBBW")
-Hugh wanted to become more human(I, Borg)
-The Borg that Chakotay met formed a new society (VOY: "Unity")
-The Borg with Lore formed a new society(TNG: Descent)
-The Borg in FC just died.
The ones from ENT were, I believe, the Borg who went down with the debirs from the Sphere. The ones Poe refers to shorted out after Picard flooded engineering with the flesh-eating gas.I don't remember if this is the case off the top of my head, but weren't some of these Borg from FC eventually part of an ENT show?
Yes, but after they crashed to Earth along with Borg debris, they were frozen.Darth Fanboy wrote:I don't remember if this is the case off the top of my head, but weren't some of these Borg from FC eventually part of an ENT show?
After they were unfrozen, IIRC, they began turning the Enterprise into something that would contact the Collective; their last mission priority in First Contact.

New Shield Page!
The new SHIELDS page is now live!
Also, due to popular request, the Darkstar Database is back with recent updates.

On the Darkstar page (not a comment, but a technical issue) is it just me or are the links really dark unless highlighted by the mouse?

Impressive, but...
Interesting, but why the pyramid? Would a cone do? Could I produce a triangular pyramid (four generators) instead of a rectangular one? Can I expand the area by using a petagonal pyramid?Publius wrote:generators – – which, when precisely aligned, form a temperature-shielded pyramid.
Interesting - they probably must do neutrino cooling to force pump the heat outside against a gradient. If they don't, eventually the interior of the pyramid would equalize with the exterior. The temperature there rarely exceeds 8,000 degrees, well within the pyramid's long-range capacity.
This detail confuses me. Any help?:
Be flung by what? If you are going just fast enough to overcome gravity, what would fling you back into space? The natural convective currents within the star? Wouldn't you need thrusters on all sides and not just the top then? The centrifugal force from your tangential velocity? That's what you are relying onOur only real problem is keeping the pyramid in orbit. At the speed it has to travel to overcome the star's gravity, it could easily be flung back through the corona into space.
If you are going at the correct speed, the centrifugal effect would be just enough to overcome gravity - you don't need a thruster to hold it down unless you are moving too fast. But we have even that eventuality covered. The control generator at the top of the pyramid is equipped with a thruster, one that counters the centrifugal effects of the rapid orbit.

exelent, apart for typo I noticed it's almost flawless (the typo was at one point you wrote that Needa did something in ROTJ, but we all know that Needa died in ESB, but as it doesn't change you're point it just cosmetical.)

Excellent, and the new information on the shields page was great!

Quite, since the aswer is located in USVSD, in the 'Shields' section.Mange the Swede wrote:Excellent, and the new information on the shields page was great!

pg. 49: "Another TIE, not designed for combat, but nevertheless utilized extensively during the Hoth campaign was the TIE shuttle. With the collected crew of six Star Destroyers, standard comm traffic between the starships of the Imperial Death Squadron would have interfered with the sensor scans and probe droid communications so vital for its missions. As such, many non-vital communications were physically shuttled back and forth when the fleet was not in hyperspace. Instead of the stanadard, high-profile Imperial Lambda-class shuttle, the TIE shuttle was dedicated to these tasks."
This gives us two vital pieces of information. First, they used these shuttles extensively for communications purposes (such as with Needa). More importantly, it indicates why standard comm traffic would not have been employed in the asteroid field: Comm transmissions would have interfered with both sensor scans and probe droids!
And thats only from the Star Destroyers, to say nothing of the OTHER vessels. Remember that at the time they were vigorously searching for the Falcon, so detection would be a priority. Standard comm signals would probably interfere with scans, and therefore Vader most likely ordered subspace and/or Hyperwave communications (Which may not interfere as readily as standard comms), but also required that shields be down, much as was the case in Dark Empire with the Alleigance as well (its shields were down during holonet transmissions, which allowed the ISD Emancipator to drop out of hyperspace at point blank range and destroy it)
Yes, I know, but there's still that scene from ROTS that is bothersome (when Sidious made contact with the ARC-170 pilot ordering him to execute Order 66). But it's only one small scene...Adrian Laguna wrote:Quite, since the aswer is located in USVSD, in the 'Shields' section.Mange the Swede wrote:Excellent, and the new information on the shields page was great!

well ARC (in ARC-170) stands for Aggressive Recon Craft so being able contact base even with shields up is vital for the operation of the craft.Mange the Swede wrote:Yes, I know, but there's still that scene from ROTS that is bothersome (when Sidious made contact with the ARC-170 pilot ordering him to execute Order 66). In that particular scene having the sensors stop working for the few moments needed for Palpy to say "Order 66" wouldn't have been much of a problem. So a transmition that goes through shields, but messes with the sensors, was used.Mange the Swede wrote:Yes, I know, but there's still that scene from ROTS that is bothersome (when Sidious made contact with the ARC-170 pilot ordering him to execute Order 66).
