questions for those that also play guild wars
Ive been playing guild wars for about 3 weeks now and I've got some questions that I would like answered:
1 - is there any way whatsoever for me to see what various dyes will do to my armor without having to spend the gold buying them only to come out with a horrible color
2 - how can I sell the various items for the best price (at least I'd like to know what price to ask for) ?
3 - is it worth buying keys just to open the chests ?
4- has anyone seen any really horrible cape designs ?

1) I don't think so. I'd just hold off on dye and horde what you do find in your bank for later (you'll end up changing armor a lot until the end of the game anyways).
2) I don't know, economics make my brain hurt. I just don't bother with selling to other players generally, I either give to guild mates free or sell to NPCs. Or just keep it in my stash.

The latest update changed the chests from being in the same location every time, to being randomly placed, rarer, and requiring a key which only wokrs once. Keys can be purchased for the genral region your in, or aquired from item drops. The chests do have rarer items in them now. The update also removed atribute refund points, so you can unlimited refunds whenever your in town.
As for the armor, I have played far enough so that I am now in droknars forge armor, which various sites say is the strongest availble (but that there is really expnsive stuff later on which isn't any stronger)
Because I am content to get wepons / armor from item drops, my only use for the gold is to buy capture signets and skill not obtained through quests (1k each)

Runes are of note in that they cost a lot to buy, but sell for shit. I've given some of mine away free to friends for that reason.

Ask someone you trust, or go to Lion's Arch (if you are that far in the game) and look at the prices for certain things. With the latest patch though and green rare items which have perfect mods, most purple items are near worthless, relatively depending on what stage in the game you are in. Of course, we are talking about rares. If you are talking about runes and blue/purple items, do what Sylas is suggesting and sell at the midway point. Selling at the midway point isn't accurate with rares though because items which have perfect stats fetch thousands, tens of thousands or more because people want perfection. Check out the price jump between major and superior absorbtion runes for the warrior to see what I mean. That applies to any weapons with max mods. Max stats such as 22 for swords/wands/staffs, 28 for bows and 35 for hammers are just the beginning, as it is easy to find maxed out weapons late in the game, but hard to find maxed out weapons with maxed out mods. For example, the ideal maxed out mod is +15% damage > 50% health, and this would fetch tens of thousands if not over a hundred thousand on the right weapon.
No. Keys are a money sink. Every time I've used a key I've gotten a maxed out item but with really shit mods. Collectors items are better than most of the chest items. They are only worth it if you buy them in bulk, and if you can buy keys in bulk you are a fucking rich asshole who probably farmed UW with the invincimonk or maybe played the game since the beginning all the time.3 - is it worth buying keys just to open the chests ?
Don't pay attention to bad cape designs, although I've seen some really cool ones that nearly made me want to switch guilds (I'm in the SD.net guild right now).4- has anyone seen any really horrible cape designs ?

The 100 gold thing was implemented a couple weeks ago, or there abouts. It's when they added the keys and the new areas.
Speaking of playing, I should some time. School has been sucking up all my time, but I'll see if I can get GW to run on my laptop. I'll definately have some time in October, when one of my classes finishes up.

I haven't kicked anyone out of the guild. Since I'm the only officer in the guild at the moment, with Gaius not online, I'm the defacto leader. Of course, I've been somewhat busy with my class, so I haven't been online in a while...

1 - The only annoiences would be a message when you recieve the invite, and the message when you log on saying how many invites you have.
2 - I was at least up to maguuma jungle when it was implemented, and I only had seen 1 guild invite that was sent without the person sending asking me first.
One scam I had read about was guilds that invite people, pursuade them to give other members gold (saying its for the guild hall) and once the person has paid this gold, they are kicked from the guild and put on the ignore lists of everyone in the guild. This latest move seems to encourage asking for entry fees, making these scams harder to spot.

Actually I'm not planning to join guild with an entry fee unless I trust them first. Beowulf, I sent you a private msg saying Im interested in joining the SD.net guild, but as its been sitting in the outbox for a few days, I'm guessing you haven't read it yet. I will pay the 100 gold when we meet up for the trade if I can. I have an abundance of skill points so I'm buying skills from the ember light camp trainer whenever I have the money (1k per skill, I have enough skill points to get all the non-elites and a few capture signets before I run out), I usually have over 100 left after each purchase, but I'm not rally paying it much attention. Besides, 100 gold isn't that hard to obtain.
I just finished Hell's Precipice today, so tommorow I start on the new quests added with sorrows furnace as I have done all the preceding quests according to gamefaqs, apart from Villainy of Galrath, which I am saving to go at with a decent group of friends

Villainy of Galrath ain't hard. I got through it with one other player and a bunch of hench with only 2 deaths, both of which were in about the same spot, and neither actually near the end. Thunderhead Keep is much harder, because you can't feasibly do it with henchmen, it seems.

I found a way. Actually someone showed me a way. If you sit right next to the King, the guys go into the Keep and mill about in the bottom, and come up slowly one at a time. It works with 6 warriors a necromancer and a monk. I am not sure if it would work with henchmen, but presuming you could shoot off enough firepower it could work since the hench lack firepower.Villainy of Galrath ain't hard. It's possible, I did it with a Ranger/Mesmer. (Had to; pick-up groups weren't cutting it.) For the first half, just be careful how you aggro the enemy groups when you get the boss. Make sure the King doesn't go rush off to his death. For the second half, the trick seems to be to leave the bosses for last. The bosses can tank quite a bit, so play the n-squared law and take out the weaker supports first. Every time I went for the hard-hitting boss first, my party started dying just as he started dying, but we were too outnumbered to recover.
Also, be sure to wait and see where the enemy groups are heading before engaging. You want to engage the ones that are coming towards the King first.

Thunderhead Keep is easier with henchies compared to the typical random group. Henchies follow your orders. I tried thunderhead keep twice, both with random groups. Once with a badly organised team that worked well, up until the final battle where some slipped through to the king as we had no idea what we were doing.Thunderhead Keep is much harder, because you can't feasibly do it with henchmen, it seems.
Second time I made sure we had a plan first. This plan was to draw all enmies into the centter of the arena and fight them there. Any heading up to the king were aggroed and boutght it. Most of the time we were fighting at on of the gates, but we were told a lot to not go through them (because a warrior kept going through). Basically, make sure your party has a decent plan beofre going in
As for henchs, I've heard that if your using henchs, just camp round the king and wait for the enemies to come to you.
Gennerally I find that most people playing as warriors (and a suprising number of elementalists) just charge into the next fight, without giving time for the casters to recharge. One by the name of Magus Coldspring did this so often that the healers threatened to not heal him. Another one didn't even wait for dead members of the party to be revived. He claimed that there are worse tankers than him out there.
The hardest part for me would have to be the monsters just outside of ember light camp. It took us 3 or 4 respawns at the nearby spawn point (within their aggro range) to get them all.
