Was Grievous killed by the first shot?
OK this has bothering me a bit, was Gen Grievous incapacitated by first shot and Obi-wan fired 4 more shot to be sure. Since to me it seemed that he started to recover from the first shot when the second shot hit and only final three were to make sure.
What do you think?

He was in pretty bad shape. I'd say if he didn't get immediate medical attention (did he have medical gear in his ship? it's just a tiny fighter) he may have died. After the second or third shot, he was definately mortally wounded, the rest were overkill. I'm sure Obi-Wan just wanted to make sure the guy couldn't take him out with his last breath so to speak.

I think he would have died anyway from the first shot, in a matter of minutes if not under one.Kurgan wrote:He was in pretty bad shape. I'd say if he didn't get immediate medical attention (did he have medical gear in his ship? it's just a tiny fighter) he may have died.
I mean, seriously, his internal organs were on fire...
Which is why I qualified my statement "if he didn't get immediate medical attention." If he had facilities like Palpatine did, I'm sure he could bounce back from something like that. He must have not had much faith in his opponents, he didn't even carry a fire extinguisher with him for occasions like this!
In a way, Grevious reminds me of another over confident movie-villian, General Katana, from Highlander II. Huge attitude, lots of hatred and sadism, but in the end, he doesn't really hold up against anybody competent.
But I digress. In any case I agree that the first shot was pretty nasty, and would have taken Grevious out of the fight. Obi-Wan didn't give him that chance, and Grevious was so surprised after the first shot, it apparently didn't register that he was in trouble.
Why didn't Grevious, after his chest plates were first pried open, use his superior strength to "push them back" into place? Major over-sight in the heat of battle. He obviously never played through House of the Dead 2.

"Immediate medical attention" or not (which just strikes me as BS), I think he would have eventually died anyway from the first shot within minutes, if that long. Seriously, his organs were on fire, and pretty much burnt up within seconds. Grievous was handed death with that first shot, and nothing could have prevented that, as I understand his current cyborg state (those organs were left for a reason, after all).

You know what I mean.
How do they replace anyone's organs, what after they're dead from their organs failing?
If Obi-Wan had fallen off the cliff after the first shot, and Grevious had had Palpatine's medical team waiting, he couldn't have survived? I would at least think he'd have a chance, a pretty good one probably.

If Obi-Wan had fallen after the first shot, I think Grievous would have either dropped dead on his way to his fighter or while taking off. Seriously, his organs were burning up. I know I keep saying that, but I don't think you actually understand the seriousness and gravity of Grievous' situation.
I cannot see in any way Grievous surviving the first shot for even five minutes.

Then again for all we know Obi-Wan could have survived the fall, he just wanted to continue the fight with Grevious, since here was the chance to take out a key Seperatist leader and more quickly end the war...Spanky The Dolphin wrote:If Obi-Wan had fallen after the first shot, I think Grievous would have either dropped dead on his way to his fighter or while taking off. So is Obi-Wan just a bloodthirsty bastard or was this a mercy killing, in your view?
A good point. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a fire extinguisher in the cockpit of his ship (seems like a sensible enough safety device to have around in emergencies). A simple first aid kit (tailored to Grevious's particular needs) could keep hold him together until he reached whatever med station was handy. Didn't Vader keep medical equipment close at hand with him? I imagine somebody like Grevious would do the same, unless he was a complete moron (maybe he was). No guarentee that he'd get the right treatments in time, but still. My point is that while serious, the first shot need not be fatal.Xess wrote:Maybe if Grievous had Palpatine's med team waiting with a fire extenguisher on the landing pad.

Well Grievous is more Machine then man (or male khalee is his case), he might able to do thing regular people aren't capable of.

true but Grievous feel little to no pain and the Droid part of his brain can give some commands. Also Grievouss was altered to make sadistic and ruthlesss killer.nickolay1 wrote:Let's not forget though that the entity controlling that machine was still male khalee.

It's possible that his pain nerves have been surgically disabled.
He's probably also enough of a nutjob that being close to death would make him want to kill his enemy even more. Hmm.. in fact, I figure that's what was happening. Fortunately Obi-Wan squeezed the trigger four more times.
As for his ability to survive without his guts, I'm sure mechanical replacements for just about any internal organs are possible.. a pump for his blood (or blood analog), and devices to oxygenate (or whatever) his blood.
I'm guessing he still kept his guts because they tend to keep whatever organics they can. What's a Khalee look like? Did the gutsack hold the entire contents of his former organic torso?

Grievous gut sack holds only his lungs and heart. that's also reason that as far I know we don't have a canon source that would say what Khalee look like (there's one non-canon comic though) all we know is they're reptilian.

Any human losing those organs would be disabled in a very short time and dead within minutes. He wasn't a human, but you'd think his brain needs whatever his lungs and heart work to bring it.Lord Revan wrote:Grievous gut sack holds only his lungs and heart.

Bypass the gutsack entirely; just plug some oxygenated blood into the right tube, get to the medship where they can plug in some new organs.VT-16 wrote:*Tries to picture Grievous applying first aid to his own gut-sack and stay coherent enough to pilot afterwards. *

He didn't seem to die horribly in the vacuum of space in the opening battle sequence, so it's safe to say he's got something a bit better than standard issue oxygen processing capabilities.
