Best and worst TV show theme music

Post by Darth Wong »

Given my preference for sci-fi, my candidates are:

Best: Battlestar Galactica (the original one)
Worst: B5 Crusade (who the fuck approved that horrid theme music?)

Best: Tank from Cowboy Bebop, or perhaps the Iron Chef Theme.

Worst: I've never really liked the Buffy opening theme.

I loved the Buffy theme, it rocked.

My favorite is probably Firefly, with DS9 a close second.
The worst I've ever heard is...*drumroll*...Enterprise.

I'm going to have to vote Firefly as well as Dalton for best; worst... doesn't come to mind at the moment. I don't usually pay attention to the music unless I like it. *shrug*

I can't be the only one here who has a fondness for Rhythm Heritage's theme from S.W.A.T?
That's one of the most catchy 70's groove tunes around.

The theme from 'Baretta' was a classic as well.
Maybe I'm showing my age, but it seems like the best TV theme music was during the 70's and 80's.

Off the top of my head I'd say The Simpsons theme is one of the best out there.

For worst I have to second Crusade. The music on that show sucked all around, which is especially sad since the B5 scores were pretty good.

Best: 3rd season intro to Babylon5.

Worst: ST:TOS. Followed by Crusade.
Worst: B5 Crusade (who the fuck approved that horrid theme music?)
I think JMS wanted to try something...'new'.

Best: I'd have to say TNG. I always liked it, and Patrick Stewart's voice only helps.

Worst: Hard to say... nothing really sticks out. I suppose those 80s shows like MacGuyver would qualify for a sort of "so-goddamn-terrible-it's-supremely-awesome-and-hardcore" thing.

You cannot dis MacGuyver, that's one of the best themes out there, right along with The A-Team!

Best: Fireball XL-5

Worst: I don't know about 'worst', but I really do not care at all for neo-BSG's title theme.

Best: BBC Grandstand, no question.
Worst (that I've heard recently): Enterprise season 4 with the rhythm track undernearth.

Best: Beverley Hillbillies. I like the banjo tune, and the lyrics are catchy.

Scrubs. Short enough so you don't fast forward on the DVD. Plus it sounds cool and fits the show.

Simpsons. A nice classic style, the tune has become a cultural icon.

Worst: Enterprise. Russel Watson does not good Star Trek make.

Family Guy. Fun at first, but it gets old quick.

Best: Miami Vice

Worst: Enterprise. Not that it's a bad song, it just doesn't fit with the show

Best: Firefly definately. Why oh why did I wait so long to start watching this show. A close second would go to The Outer Limits opening theme, not so much for the music but for the creepy voice-over. That guy just gives me chills!

Worst: Tie between the final Enterprise theme and the one from Crusade. Both are just absolutely terrible.
Clever and witty signature to be inserted here, just as soon as I think of one.

Best: Hm, the theme music for Enterprise during the In a Mirror Darkly two parter was pretty damn good, IMHO, but maybe I'm just influenced by all the stuff that was blowing up while it played.

I'll second Ford Prefect's choice of Cowboy Bebop's music, and I still love the music from the old Disney cartoons: Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck. Also, the orginal .hack/sign's music was probably the only good thing about it.

Worst: I'm gonna have to jump on the bandwagon here and say Enterprise's usual theme music.

Best: ST:TOS think about it, on what part of the planet can you walk down the street whistling that tune, nad *not* have everyone around you know exactly from where it comes.

Worst: Full House. I hate that raspy voice guy that did so much to make me hate late 80's and early 90's sitcoms. makes me think of an amalgamation of Don Henley/Brian Adams/Melissa Etheridge all rolled up into one vomit-inducing ball of nastiness.

I pity the fool, who hasn't atleast once played air-guitar while listening to the Buffy theme.

I kinda like the theme tune to Angel, and Futurama is pretty funky too.

The worst I've heard probably goes to Neighbours, and Aussie soap shown over here. Both the really old and newer version just get on my tits.

Best : Thunderbirds, Space Precinct (with opening narration) , Futurama

Worst : Dukes of Hazzard, Full House, ENT (first version, the S4 one was better)

Best:
1st. Band of Brothers (never saw an opening sequence that so fit its show)
2nd. Batman The Animated Series (especially Clayface and Grey Ghost)

Worst: Gotta go with Crusade. God that was rediculous

Best: Voyager, TNG(with voice), B5, and strangly enough, NGE. I don't really like Jpop at all, but for some reason, I really like that tune.

Worst: TOS. Ugh.
And Tripping the Rift.

I always quite liked the theme for Twin Peaks, Firefly was pretty good as well. I can't remember of any especially poor ones, problem being that poor ones are often quite forgettable.

I absolutely love Evangelion's opening, I've got about seven different versions of it.

Worst: The only one that I really remember not liking was B5s for S3. IMO it was nowhere near as good as the rest.

Also, was I the only person who liked Ent's opening music?

I started liking it by the end of season four. I felt it became more and more appropriate.

Unsolved Mysteries had an awesome theme song. The Law and Order tune is catchy, too.
