Worst Video Game Flops of All Time?
There have been several threads on the best video games in the past couple years, but not many on Bad Games and bad hardware, That's why I dedicate this thread to answering a Question that I want answered. What is the worst Video Game flop in the history of Video Games? I'm not talking about bad games like Mario Sunshine or the other mediocre games/hardware.
I am talking about real flops like the Power Glove or the Infamous ET Game for the Atari 2600, or Daikatana for the PC. Games and hardware that have brought down companies, the industry, and/or just too bad for the public to use.
So Do any Sd.net'ers have any opinions on what they think is the Worst Video Game Flop of all time?

So to qualify, it had to be hugely hyped, and then suck majorly?
I'd nominate Battlecruiser 3000 AD, and the Matrox Parhelia.

Daikatana.

E.T was the original super flop, and also literally became garbage .

While not a sucess, it's opening day shows it was nowhere near the flop of the Sega CD or better still 32X. It just wasn't big enough to pull them out of the Saturn hole.Losonti Tokash wrote:I believe you could place the Dreamcast squarely in this category (much as I love mine).
Well, depending on who you talk to. There are those that claim their Dreamcast is still the best thing ever built by the hands of man.
I still say ET tops this list...given they had to BURY the unsold copies. Even as bad as Daikatana was, I've yet to hear that reaction.

The Virtual Boy is a contender for this award too.

AS Bad as E.T. was, I think it should be tied with Pacman for the Atari 2600 on anylist. Not only did it share the same fate as ET, but it was poorly designed and programed. In fact, it was so bad, there were millions of unsold Pacman games inside Atari warehouses in the winter of 1983.Ghost Rider wrote:While not a sucess, it's opening day shows it was nowhere near the flop of the Sega CD or better still 32X. Absolutely. I remember going down to my local Toys R Us as a little kid wishing to spend my Bithday money in a couple games and maybe a new system. I had read ads in my Nintendo power, that Virtual Boy was the nect big thing for handheld consoles. So, I went down to that store and noticed they had a demonstration VB all set up. Upon playing with it, I realized that I couldn't see a damned thing because It was straining my eyes. Not only that, I was also disgusted by the lack of the VB's ability to adjust to the contours of the face. It was this Demonstration VB that prompted me not to buy a VB, ever.HyperionX wrote:The Virtual Boy is a contender for this award too.

Very true, and forgot that particular debacle with Pac Man.EmperorSolo51 wrote:AS Bad as E.T. was, I think it should be tied with Pacman for the Atari 2600 on anylist. Personally anything that needs burying is pretty much on the top, and then needs to be decided from there.

Agreed. That's why I created this thread, in hopes of doing a top 10 Bad video game/hardware list as voted on by SD.Net.Ghost Rider wrote:

The biggest game flop is certainly Daikatana. Compare the hype, expense, and development time to the product, a real turd of a game.
I would go for the N-Gage as the worst system flop. To this day I have yet to see a single N-Gage being purchased or used.

I second both the 2600 E.T. and Pac-Man. Those two were like the big deathblows for the 1983 Video Game Crash.

Doom 3. This is the biggest disappointment I've ever experienced of a game. The engine was utter shit, and I barely got even 15fps at the lowest settings (with mid-range hardware of the time of its release). As a result of the smelling pile of dogshit that they so overhyped as being better than sex, rarely more than a single idiotic, cliched monster is ever fought by the player. Makes me wonder if they employed mentally retarded macaque slave labor to code for them.
The game was also TOO FUCKING DARK! No wonder it took those brainless sacks of shit took so damn long to complete: they spent millions of man-hours meticulously hand-crafting every black pixel for the biggest fucking delectation of our lives. There existed not a single amply lit level to lighten up the ten hours I wasted desparately looking for a story. As those who've been most unfortunate enough to have played it will probably ask, "...what story?"

It clearly is NOT a flop, it suceeded, it worked and there are many people who liked it, we can discuss its merits and problems till October 18th and on but it clearly is NOT a flop.nickolay1 wrote:Doom 3. Well, I was going to say Superman64, but that's nothing compared to getting buried.

I rather liked it.nickolay1 wrote:Success does not preclude it from being one of the worst games, ever. Of course, most of those who liked it were part of the mindless masses, transfixed by its purrrrty graphics stationary on their screens, while the current frame took an eternity to be redrawn.
Religion succeeded as well.
Okey, this fits it as a flop HOW? The fact it suceeded proves its NOT a flop.
