I've always gotten the impression that Jack McCoy on Law & Order is an atheist who pays lip service to the idea of God when it suits him.

You might want to clarify this analogy; you're treading on dangerous ground with the implication an atheist doesn't believe despite evidence for God.
That's the typical movie atheist, really. They're horrific skeptics, and can't lift their veil of skepticism to take a look at reality. The position of an atheist in movies is typically the immoral ass hole who cares not of God or man, and who believes very little of either.

He's made it clear on several occassions that he is a practicing Catholic, so I don't see that as all that likely.

That reminds me, isn't Lister supposed to be an atheist? It was ironic because he became God for his cat's descendants after they evolved.

I belive Lister has prayed a time or two because "it can't hurt can it now?"

Around a third of atheists pray, so that doesn't really mean much. According to the maintenance guy in "Back To Reality" Lister is "the ultimate atheist, that, in fact, turns out to be God," though then again, he could've just been playing with them. Then again, playing them wouldn't work as well i Lister actually wasn't an atheist.

Also, there's Lister's speech about Heaven, Hell and Free Will at the end of "Justice" I think the episode's called.

Hey, he'd be defiling the sacred cross.
So, what does that make Wolfwood?

Practicing? I know he either is or was a Catholic, from his responses when the cases lead to the Church, but I was unaware he was still practicing.

I was watching Frankenstein (USA Network TV -2004), and I was specifically on the part of the movie where the scientist who makes these Frankensteins visits the clergyman and kills him.

From the dialog that took place in that part of the movie, it seems very probable that he's an Atheist.

Then I should have refrained and apologize for not having done so.

Having watched the aforementioned movie a few minutes before submitting the previous post and being reminded by this thread... I was eager to share and didn't put thought to the incursion I'd commit.
