Finished Halo?

Post by Dorenn Stark »

As a PS2-Nintendo fan, I only recently picked up an Xbox, and just today finished Halo (part one normal difficulty) I deem it an entertaining game, with great replay value. I wonder, how many times have you finished Halo, and tell us about your best experience with the game. With the huge cult following that Halo has, I'm sure there are some good stories to be told.

Replay value? Eh? Halo?

I've only played it twice, one on the PC one on the Xbox. I can beat nightmare on PC but have trouble with normal on Xbox.

Try playing with the vehicles, I once managed to bypass the whole "The covenant have locked down the map center" by driving down in a jeep, not as fun as when I flew a banshee underground

Yes, I think it has replay value, in the sense that all FPS games do. Where the player simply avoids using certain weapons on future plays making it more challenging. From Halo I can see several more plays while keeping the game interesting such as : Playing only with the pistol, only with plasma pistol, needler, etc.

Figure in all the times I've played various levels and what not, I've beat the game at least a dozen times. Probably closer to 2-dozen. Of course Library is the one level I have played fewer times then any other.

Technicaly I've only beaten Halo 2 twice, but I've played every level (except quarantine zone) at least three times, some as many as a dozen by now.

I've gone through the original by at least four times in terms of completion, since I wanted to knock off all the difficulty levels and such. A few more or so with just random level-playing and such, and maybe a final time when screwing around and looking for all the easter eggs and such (Warthog Jumping is the current thing I'm trying to do). Beyond that, though, there's not much else, since it's just me and my brother, and we're rarely around or in the mood for such.

Two I was only able to beat once, since without Live, my brother deemed it worthless to keep and swapped it for KOTOR II.

I've beat Halo on every difficulty. Took a while to do Legendary. I have also played the game extensively after having it modded.

One thing I've noticed in Halo 2 is that some levels are actualy very easy because you can run right through them rather then fight.

I have replayed it once IIRC.
I buy most good FPS and enjoy playing them but rarely replay them more than once or twice , I also don't enjoy the multiplayer part of most FPS(exept Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy).

HOW DO YOU MOD HALO 1?!
I've been goin' out of my mind for weeks (since I beat the PC version of the game) trying to figure out how to modify the single-player campaign in any way, all I can find are multiplayer mods for Halo CE.

Talk to Bri_Dog at SB.com. He's done some nice modding. Give the AR pistol accuracy, up its firepower, decrease its refire rate, give it a scope. Changed a lot of stuff actualy. Flood can be a real bitch when they have ARs now.

Since I suck at FPSs I enjoy a round of Halo due to the lack of bosses. In other FPSs I despise them. You slog your way through (and I stumble, slog and die frequently) and get to the end of the level where you invariably face off against something that can take multiple RPGs on the shnozz without blinking and still not really be down anything major. Did I mention you're usually in a room smaller than your average toliet? I hate it.

Halo lacks this and so is loved by me. The complete lack of some dumbass huge flood beastie with acidic boogers and shields for no adequately explained reason makes me the game.

And because I suck so much I can play (and die) again and again and again. I am now trying to win on normal.

I played it all the way through once. I played parts of it again just to see exactly how many places I can take the vehicles. Mainly, I play it now for the multiplayer.

I've only beaten Halo and Halo 2 one time apeice, but I tend to play certin levels over and over again, generally several times on each difficulty level. The Library is the only level I've never completed more than once. Frankly, the Flood freak me out, and piss me off.

I've played every level a fwe times on Easy and Normal, and all non-flood ones except T&R on Heroic, and POA on Legendary. Yeah, wimpy, but I like to klingon-charge with my AR and melee people to death.

Halo 2, I've played most of the non-arbitor, non-flood ones about a half-dozen times scattered about on Normal and Heroic. Arbitor levels I have a max of Normal because I hate Flood and Heretics. Legendary is for skull runs.

I've finished it on Normal and Heroic on the 'Box.

Legendary is a whole other kettle of Elites. They get scary powerful, even the weakest ones.

Makes you really appreciate that plasma pistol/pistol though, as it's the only way to take their shield down and kill them fast. The assault rifle just doesn't cut it.

I hated the way the pistol was represented. I absolutely refused to use it and still used the AR as my primary until the shotgun.

Played through it once on co-op, once on PC, and then tried to replay it on PC at a higher difficulty. It's not the increased challenge that's stopped me so much as it's too much of a chore and I can't feel like bothering; It already feels like I've played through Halo a dozen times or more.

Trying to take on Elites on Legendary with an assault rifle is like trying to take on Mike Tyson with a fly swatter. It's not going to be pretty, and it's going to hurt. Lots. The AR is just useless for anything other than Flood spores..

I could still kill blue and red Elites with one AR magazine. Its also useful against hordes of grunts and cloaked Elites. AR was my weapon of choice.

It melees pretty well, too. I can beat Elites to death while dodging attacks assuming I kill the grunts near them first and aren't getting shot at by other elites, but only on Heroic. Legendary there's too many to play ninja.

Hell, a couple of times I've dodged about, meleeing Gold Elites to death, but only on Normal. It's much harder on Silent Cartographer, here you have no maneuver room unless you lead it to somewhere else.

I beat the game several times, the first was the best, pissed my pants at the Library, swore several times not getting through the part at the end where the ship is exploding.

Only really stopped pissing my pants when playing multiplayer with someone else.

Beat Halo 2 twice

Like the sniper rifle and pistol, that plus the frag grenade, favorite in multiplayer too. Only problem was only the pistol was any good against the Flood, and you can't use a bloody pistol against the Flood, you need grenades and lots of ammunition and lot and lots of running. Shotgun's best for that.

Rocket launcher not so much, good against vehicles and hilarious against Grunts.

Like the kickbutt sniper energy rifle in Halo 2, also one of the few ways you can kill those big buggers. Don't really like double fire mode, like the ability to use grenades better.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm sure about the latter.

Finished Halo on the PC. Found it a very mediocre game. In fact, the only thing that kept me playing was because I wanted to know how the story developed

I felt the same way about it. And I actually quit playing and just got the rest of the story from a friend after reaching the Library and learning to hate shoddy cut and paste level design, horrible mouse control (you use a mouse, but it still felt like you were using a thumbstick) and the hordes of small enemies.

Thats because the sensitivity levels didn't go high enough and it still felt slow. Get the Logitech MX 518. You can adjust the sensitivity on the mouse itself and get the high sensitivity you desire even in Halo.
